Title: KNARESBOROUGH PLAYMOBIL EXHIBITION 2012, TRAINS AND BEACH
Post by: playmofire on February 20, 2012, 18:01:26
Here is a video showing the goods train in action:

(http://i704.photobucket.com/albums/ww48/playmofire/Knaresborough%20train%202012/th_DSCF0036.jpg) (http://s704.photobucket.com/albums/ww48/playmofire/Knaresborough%20train%202012/?action=view&current=DSCF0036.mp4)

I'm currently uploading one of the passenger train.

At last, success in uploading the passenger train:

Well I always love a good train layout. Love the bridge and the kid that says:" I like this very much"!

On the whole you should use more nature parts and stuff because it seems a bit empty on the whole

Add on sets 7339,7440 and 7441 are perfect for in train curves. I'll show pictures of mine this weekend!

I used some of the DS landscape parts and there is more to see of the farm etc;  I'll be posting still photos of these shortly.  The empty spaces are partly the due to the shortage of time for setting up (about 12 hours) and the difficulty of reaching parts of the display area.

I thought time was a reason here! I always wonder how much time people like michael and rapunzel need to set up their displays, surely they must train in advance!

I have to add that Highlandcattle may have failed to appreciate the effort required to pull this display together.  Because the hall is used on the Thursday all the work, including laying the boards and getting the correct height differential had to be done on the Friday.  Gordon was in at around noon if I recall correctly and we had to get track laid and sets laid out.  As others of us were busy with our own sets Gordon was on his own with this for a lot of the time.

Gordon, Elaine and Damo had all packed their cars with everything they could.  I had some system x buildings that could have been added to the towns on either side but I am not convinced they were needed.  Last year we set out to pack the City Life display with buildings and this year there were some comments during planning about giving a bit of space.  I think this worked.

We talked about adding to the fields.  It may have been possible to add some livestock but this was not a big deal.
We could have put more in (given more time) but was it really necessary?  I don't think so.

Thank you all for your kind comments; they are much appreciated.

Other things have got in the way of posting here recently, but here goes with some detail photos and another video.  Although most of what you see on the train display came from my collection, other Playmofriends also contributed, notably Damo, Mark and Elaine, so I'll post these items first where they can be clearly separated out because they are a display in themselves and then have a closer at the railway and other bits from my collection.  Unfortunately, I found a lot of the photos were blurred or fuzzy (poor light and a telephoto setting on the lens), so there aren't as many as I would have liked to have shown.

So we start with Damo who provided two Steck houses and also the great gymkhana and farm display.

A general view of the farm from a distance to start with:

And then a shot of the gymkhana and the row of cottages in the background.  Damo provided the green one...

... and sitting outside it taking it easy is Fred while Maisie goes off to do some shopping:

And this is where she's heading, to the farmers' market to buy fresh veg:

and fish:

The gymkhana is popular with the horse and pony set...

...and in between competing some of the youngsters are enjoying a hayride:

As well as being heavily involved in organising the exhibition and setting up the display tables and creating his own displays, Mark also contributed a riverside cafe to the railway scene.  Here it is:

As you can see in the first picture, there's a bit more of the farm scene, plus a nature reserve I put in to fill the corner (by this time in setting up, it was getting late and also difficult to reach the empty spaces.  Overall, however, it was probably as well that there were open spaces as otherwise people might have got "lost" with too much to see.)  Here's a close-up of the nature reserve.  Although there wasn't a competiition to "spot the stag", lots of people enjoyed doing so, although it was variouly identified as a reindeer, a moose or a caribou!

You may have spotted the fire brigade in the video, so here are some photos of it in action.  The Victorian park fence was kindly loaned by Elaine who was very pleased to collect it at the end still complete and without any of the railings cut or bent by the rescue operation.

A general shot (the new rescue tender is being used, btw):

A more detailed shot showing how the boy is being supported by an air bag (much easier than four fire crew holding him up by the legs and arms!)

Two more detail views to end this post with:

As well as the fire brigade, the police and ambulance service were also in attendance; you can see more of them on the video in the final post of this series.

Now some detail photos of the railway itself;again, not as many as I had hoped because of technical problems, but more can be seen in the video later on.

At one end there was a small custom station scene with a booking office/waiting area for the passengers.  (There was a larger version at the other end, but there are no photos of it, unless someone else took some successfully.)

Here's the platform view of it:

(There is a small Orthodox monastery near the station, hence the monk standing behind the milk crates waiting for a train.)

There is also a goods shed at the station for handling freight traffic with a crane for loading and unloading the goods:

Steam engines need water, so this end of the line has a water tower so the water tanks on the locos can be filled up when necessary:

Damo provided another Steck house, one being renovated, no doubt with an eye on the commuter market:

Lastly at this end of the railway, work is taking place to upgrade the goods yard for handling more traffic:

At the other end there was a bigger custom station using the arch from the 4300 station; you can see it in the video.  Meanwhile, here are some detail photos:

It was a busy day for passengers with people asking questions about train times...

...young lovers meeting...

...and people arriving for holidays:

In addition, there were waggons to load with produce from the farm:

but still time to give the station cat a stroke:

The railway is the Seaport to Beachtown Coastal Railway and for most of the way it runs within sight of the beach and the sea.

At one end, there is an area with an ice cream seller...

...and donkey rides:

There's also a lifeguard lookout here as it is popular with swimmers...

...surfers...

...and sailors:

A rescue boat is stationed there:

There's also a telescope so visitors can watch the local shipping go by:

I'm ending here, but I'll post more tomorrow.

Thank you, both, but why do women always assume it's a boy?  This happened at the display, too. It could easily be a girl wearing trousers.   :)

As for using the idea in your zoo, Bonnie, I'm sure it's not the first time a klicky has got his head stuck in a fence, so there's no copyright fee for you to pay!   :)

My avatar's the 'anxious mother' looking on and its the type of thong Junior would have done - he once had to be cut out from getting stuck between the legs of a chair

More of the beach scene.

Of course, not everyone wants to be active - some people just like to lie in the sun,

or play on the beach,

or take photos of the family (slide and sandpit kindly provided by Mark),

or just sit and watch everyone else:

We're now at the other end of the beach where there is more activity again, both leisure with jet skiing

and cycling

but also work as the fisherman lands his catch

and the fishmonger loads up his van

Thank you, both, but why do women always assume it's a boy?  This happened at the display, too. It could easily be a girl wearing trousers.   :)

It just looked like a boy, because of the colors of his clothing, and because I can't see the middle-part in the hair that the girls have. Besides, it sounds like the kind of thing a boy would do. But that may be stereotyping. ;)

That dio is great! Looks like a very cute town. I want to live there! ;)

Seems like you are living there, I couldnt help but notice your avatar on one of the pictures with a woman and three children, walking past the beach.  :)

Gordon, would you check to see if you have Junior's avatar?  I can't find him and he was last seen queuing up for an ice cream (in the photo he's the one in the camouflage hat  ;D)

I will check for Junior's avatar this weekend; I guess I must have it.

I look at all the great displays and the first thing that pops into my head is  :o 'I never knew swimsuit children could be held by their arms'.     Then of course I have to go and experiment with this new found knowledge before going back to the computer to admire the other great details.

Seriously though, it looks fantastic!

Thank you for your kind comments on the display, Verity.  However, I can take no credit for the arm holding and pose in that picture. I didn't know that adult klickies could hold the arms of junior ones (and maybe adult ones, too).  The excellent pose and arm holding are Mark's work.

I noticed this too, but I thought maybe I was the only one who never realized this could be done! It's a really cute picture.

I don't have any, but I was thinking about that too. I wonder if the adults with the wrist-less arms could be...

The "speedodad" holding the child by the arm is indeed a nice touch!  8-)
I haven't seen it before, I think the new arm-design of the swimsuit-kid allows this, as the arm is probably a bit thinner.

What a wonderful display, Gordon!  The scope is large, but because there are so many charming individual scenes going on it seems very intimate at the same time.  Your hard work and thought really shows here.
