Title: Flooring the Red Framework House
Post by: drbatesy on June 14, 2021, 22:12:43
So it's my birthday this week  ;D and that's been an excuse to splurge on Playmobil.

I've treated myself to the Red Framework House (7785) with the thought that I could have a little mini early modern diorama in my study (a nod hear to Elise's bell jar). I've realised though that the house doesn't have a floor, so I can't rotate it and keep the klickies in position. Is there a part I should be looking for to floor it? Presumably this is the Steck system, which is new to me.

Thanks for ay thoughts/help.

Steve.

I don't think any of the framework houses ever came with a floor. I'd assume that the base plates that come with Colorado Springs/the Western House would fit (30 05 0800), but it does mean a step up to the door (and, of course, you can't currently order spare parts to the UK).

Thanks Oliver. Playmobil show the floor area of 7785 as 190*190mm and 30050800 as 175*87.

The hiatus on spare parts in the UK is driving me bananas, but they keep reassuring me they're going to restore the service once they've found an arrangement with HMRC and UPS.

I don't think size should be a problem - if you look at 3771 Vacation house, it uses 3 of them as the floor, so 2 would suffice for the frame work houses. I'm just not sure if the bottom of the framework wall is different, and so it wouldn't fix onto the base plate.

If it was me, I'd be tempted to get a thin piece of MDF, or even heavy duty cardboard, to do the job

I have both Steck houses and the floor panels which go with the goods depot and I will do a check for you today.  Do not get your hopes up as too the result!

Thanks Playmofire!

I had thought about fixing a balsa wood base, Oliver, but I confess some aversion to modding if I can't restore it to its original condition in the future! I'll have to think about how that might work (i.e. not superglue  ::) )

I always baffles me when I see sets that have been super-glued together on eBay  :o

I'm not sure how robust you need it to be, maybe a strip of double sided tape would do the job? I don't think that would cause any damage

People who superglue playmo parts  are going to the special hell. Just sayin' :P

I am not sure if those framework "cornered" parts work with the floors.... My poor old head :-[

First, I confused the floor pieces you were talking about with the pieces which come with the goods station, so I cannot help with the query concerning the Colorado Springs floor pieces.

However, I have made up a  Steck house and you need a floor piece 167mm x 167mm and 5mm thick for a Steck house to sit on it with the floor recessed inside the walls (measurements are within about 1mm).

Thanks Playmofire. I'll need to have a play with the assembly.

Tahra, do you mean the pieces used to make the first-floor floor, 30028470?

Steve.

No, those wouldn't work.

I mean with the colorado floors: https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-05-0800

I am not sure the "cornered parts" - like this: https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-65-0672 - fit there... Can't remember if they're flat underneath...  :-[  My poor old head.

The black or grey floors from the old Steck train stations or hospital fit, but are very hard to find. You would need 2 end pieces
Black
30 03 9660 - End plate (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-03-9660)
Or even harder to find, grey

30 05 3250 - End plate (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-05-3250)

Thanks Tim, I'll keep an eye out.

I wonder why they chose to put these buildings out without a floor?  ???

 . . . .

Tim is absolutely correct.  I've partially assembled a green framework house using 2 end pieces 30 03 9660 as a floor to demonstrate - the bottoms of the wall pieces snap into the floor pieces so it stays together nicely.

I swear the photos were right-side-up when I posted them!   ::)  Anyway, the message comes through.

I had those floor pieces because I went on a mad ebay buying spree of steck about 15, 20 years ago.  I was pleasantly surprised to find them among my many boxes of stuff.  As a result, I can help you with those floor pieces, drbatesy, I'll send you a PM.

Thankyou for the photos Anne! I've seen some of these on ebay in France already so they're clearly 'around'.  ;D

Thank you for clearing that :)

I'm really glad that drbatesy asked the question because that prompted Tim to suggest this nifty solution that I was not aware of previously.  :)

I've tried it in the past but found it looks funny to me for the Medieval house style. I have always used grey heavy paper stock under my houses and castles for floors. Not portable, but fine on a diorama table.

Yes, I did that too..

I'm a bit late to this discussion...

Indianna's pictures prompted me to try adding two bases from 3771 (Vacation Cottage) to the bottom of a framework house. They work well, giving a different finish from Indianna's (there is a step up into the house, but no 'overhang' beyond the footprint of the building). And 3771 is a much more available set on eBay (£35 for one UK example, E35 from Germany, $74 from US) than 3432/4300/4301.

That's another neat solution Graham, thanks!

A thought for you more experienced playmofriends. Is there some logic as to why the windows in the dormers open inward? All the other windows open outward and that seems much better.  ???

It's so you can clean both inside and outside each pane without sliding off the roof! The other  upstairs windows can be reached by ladder.

(That's just a guess!)

So a big thank you to Anne.  :thanks:

My new floor arrived today and fits beautifully as you can see ...

Albrecht is now busy painting in his garrett, while Martin and his musicians get on with (presumably) hymn-writing downstairs. But best of all, when I lift the house up, they come with it!  ;D

Steve.

PS, A. loved her pirate and especially the treasure!  :arrr:

You are most welcome, Steve!  So glad to see that flooring being used in such a great way.

I'm glad A. likes the pirate and the little bit of treasure. I just wish she and my granddaughter (age 4.5 years) could play Playmo together, but I guess it's a bit too long of a trip for a playdate.   ;)

Really dig the pic of all the historical figures inside the house.

:arrr:

I never realized until just now that we have TWO pirate smileys!  :arrr: :captain:

Dying to get those Rijksmuseum figures in there!
