Chrome radio
« on: April 11, 2020, 08:03:35 »
I have two of these. I'm not from the generation that called such things a wireless (pron. 'waarless' by some), but the origin of this silver radio has got me stumped. The era when many PM parts were chrome-plated was the 1970s and 1980s, but I cannot track this one down. Any offers?

There should be an aerial on the top, but they are both broken off.

At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

I have no info, but they're gorgeous. Are they definitely Playmobil?

There are so many great miniatures from Germany (I have a thing for mid century German dollhouses & miniatures) so I wondered if it might be something by another company IF it's not Playmobil.

My question exactly. I don't remember ever seeing it. If it's playmobil, I WANT one. If it's not.. well... I want one.  ;D

It doesn't show up in the era and theme I would expect at Kickywelt Set Inhalt thread. That is early Safari. I wonder if it's a Playpeople specific mold? Did they have the Safari theme? We know they did at least one mold just for them - the Bobby Helmet. So might be possible.

Yes, quite probably. A lot of Play Big accessories were chrome.
I'm pretty sure I got them both from Germany too. I thought they might be Playmospace, but the Datenbank-Setiinhalt at Klickywelt has pictures of all the set contents in that theme and it doesn't show up in any of those.

I think it is visible here in Play Big divers set 5840-8 (scroll down to the fifth from bottom row).
Thanks everyone!

Yes! It is gorgeous... though I will NOT be hunting this.  Better not.

Also here and here and here. These images will not be around for long.
