Kirkbean 2015: The Town Square
« on: August 12, 2015, 00:24:38 »
Another large diorama from this year's Kirkbean Playmobil Festival was a town square with shops, and a small park area with a circus.  The town was based loosely on our nearest large local town; Dumfries

First a couple of overall views from different angles...

At the end of the street was a field with a small playpark and a visiting circus - this was mainly of clowns, acrobats and other variety acts ...

Throughout the four days, Mr Magic kept youngsters entertained with his disappearing lady trick...

Next I'll post close ups of the shops.

Starting near to the car parking area, on one side of the square was the Gym with the windows facing the park to ease the boredom of cycling and going nowhere! ...

Next was the hair salon, the poor man having his hair washed has been left while the stylist answers the phone and books in another appointment ...

The next shop was the designer dress and bridal store ...

A good selection of bags and hats were on offer ...

A smart assistant is offering advice in the bridal department ...

and one lady spent the entire weekend waiting to try on a dress! ...

Of course the items on sale were very expensive so a cash machine was needed ...

Further along the street were small bakers and butcher shops ...

Then came the dental surgery ...

At the bottom of this side of the street was a small gift shop ...

I'll start another post for the other side of the street.

Starting at the bottom of the right hand side of the street was a pet store ...

Next was the music shop where someone's granddad has just bought an accordion ..

A large supermarket was next - one of the supermarkets I use has a local cat that visits and waits for customers to make a fuss of her so I had to add a cat at the door! ...

Next was a fast food restaurant ...

Finally I had to add a charity shop as so many empty shops in our town have been taken over for these ...

In my next post I'll show the rest of the town ...

Across the bottom of the street was a large hall where something special was taking place - A Playmobil Festival!  If you look carefully you can spot Myself, Gordon and Walter ...

This included a cafe with home baking ...

and a small shop selling Playmobil ...

Outside in the street a local pipe band was playing ...

The old building in the centre of the square is based on the Midsteeple in Dumfries which was built in 1707 as a court and a prison.  Today it has a granite staging at the front for performers.  As the African drumming band I belong to has performed there I thought I would add this group.  All the figures are designed to represent the individual performers in the band.  ( I am fifth from the left!) ...

In the street are groups of teenagers chatting, people busy with their shopping and street vendors ...

In Dumfries high street is a statue of Robert Burns but Robert the Bruce also has connections with the town so I thought he would fit in well ...

The layout measured 8 feet by 16 feet so was quite a large area to fill, I'm not sure how many hundreds of pieces we used in the whole display!  Luckily I had a friend who was eager to help and enjoyed putting things on shelves!
Hope you enjoy the photos.

Elaine

Amazing Elaine! Lots of fantastic stuff there with the mini Playmobil show as well as the pipe band and drummers. Love all your shops as well. A great looking town.

Yeah the Playmobil show within the Playmobil show is sheer genius. I love things in little, but when things in little have little versions of themselves, that is THE BEST.

It's wonderful.  I loved seeing all the shops, and the Playmobil Festival was such a brilliant idea!
