Personly I just never understood why many people prefer their native language online. I really dont have an interest to speak Dutch online at all.
Then again I prefer english when I write stories as well, and strongly dislike that for my writing education I must write in Dutch.

Our native Dutch is almost only spoken in the nothern half of Belgium (Flanders) and in The Netherlands, and as both are rather small regions, many Dutch / Flemish people (have to) learn & speak one or more foreign European languages. This is traditionally much less the case in big European countries like France and Germany. And English and Spanish are global languages, so people having those as native tongue won´t be much encouraged in learning a foreign language either. So most often they find it much more normal to speak their own language online then we do.

Resistance is futile, you will be boarded!

True, but other countries seem to make terrible dubs of movies and series as well, which completely ruins it. I'd imagine many people woulnt want those dubs. As a kid I already hated dubbing of cartoons.
