Title: Novelties first half 2023
Post by: StJohn on September 13, 2022, 19:58:38
Pictures have been posted at Amclicks (https://amclicks.org/foro/novedades-playmobil/novedades-alemania-enero-junio-2023). Perhaps it is just me, but these novelties leave me cold.

Figures Series 23 might be the first I'll skip altogether ... I better savour the strong series 22 as long as it lasts.

Thanks for the link. I agree about series 22 being much better than 23.

Thanks for the heads up.

I like the country singer, and the judo class, and the darts player.

I don't really bother with the F?gures, but I agree that it looks pretty weak as a line up

The Egyptian woman from series 23 in slightly different colours to the last time she appeared is the only one out of all 24 characters I'd want. The karate class is interesting and I also like the country singer. The concrete cutter set is also a nice addition to the construction theme. I don't care for Ayuma as a theme but it does have lots of nice parts in it.

New sloth and Amazon pink dolphin, and a new color baby T rex.
Figures are nothing special. That seems to often happen right after a really strong batch. It seems like every other one is strong. Makes me wonder if they have two design teams that alternate and one is really goid and the other isn't?
Dart player is cool.

71185 looks like a line painter, not a concrete cutter  :lens: :sherlock:

The tool he's holding is a line painter but the machine next to him is a cutter, you can see the big circular saw blade sticking out underneath.

I was just thinking the other day that people who get buried don't tend to take even jewellery with them. Given how long plastic lasts it seems playmobil would make perfect grave goods, maybe Geobra could start a new line aimed at the dead-still dead age group.

These eyes are starting to look non-Playmobil to me . It might be the torso colors with that odd hair combo that makes them look like the knock off brands

I had the same reaction. It just isn’t playmobil. The combination with the hair doesn’t help. It just looks weird. Is the hair from Naruto?

I like the hair, though it needs eyebrows or a headband.. And I really like the eyes. What I don't like is the red mouth. No idea why, but it puts me off. Also, I still don't like women in male bodies - I mean torsos, like that set. Still, I like the klicky - just a new head.

Was this sloth sold individually?

The sloth wasn't released yet, that is the first pic, afaik. Plenty of new animals (and colors) in those wildtopia sets - see Tiermann's review :P

Is the hair from Naruto?

The hair is not new at all - it's Alex's hair, from Super 4.

A blonde version of that Alex hair finally appears in a set. I had to go digging through the archives to see when I got my blonde ones, back in 2016, but they were a different shade. Still no idea how they came to exist.

Same here.... But I THINK there was a blonde hair like that in a hairdresser some time ago (YEARS after they appeared on ebay)?

Also have a black Ruby hair from ebay - no idea where from (it's beautiful)

Check the Amclicks thread again, they've added a medical rescue theme with ambulance and helicopter. New color scheme but otherwise repeated parts.

The sloth was hinted at in the image you show with the collector card for it, but this is it's first appearance in any image. Too bad it's so awkward looking, not that sloths aren't awkward in reality, it just doesn't work for me in that pose.

Series 23 figures are mostly boring, but a few possible interesting bits hidden in there. The male scientist looks interesting with those colored glasses. The white female center back is probably another mermaid with the same tail type as in series 22. Just possibly a new seahorse color there.

For me so far very little I want beyond the 4 with new animal colors. That's ok though after this huge year for animals being so expensive. Hopefully there will be another Wiltopia theme later in the year based on a different biome.

Thanks for the update, Tiermann

[...] sloths aren't awkward in reality, it just doesn't work for me in that pose.

I guess the sloth's pose isn't fixed: all four legs seem moveable, so you can suspend him from a branch in his trademark pose.

Thanks for the information!

I like several of the figures in Fi?ures Series 22 like the rest of you, but I actually think that Series 23 has some really nice ones too.

From what can be seen in just the package image for Set 70638, the Viking, skeleton cowboy, and fantasy warrior look to have some really nice parts. I really like the gold and white pieces and the woven-look torso print.

From what can be seen in just the package image for Set 70639, the Egyptian woman, mermaid, bunny, princess, and gnome look to have some nice parts too. I missed the bunny in Series 8, so I look forward to trying some custom figures with that head.

I also like the walking stick in Set 71197, and Set 71200 is really nice! :D

It looks like the rope and hatband in Set 71206 are gold (or they could be dark yellow). If they are gold, I would definitely like to get some of those hatbands!

DuoPack Set 71208 might be one of the best sets in a long time, at least for the themes that I like! I plan to get many of them for fantasy parts, and I will be especially happy to have that staff available in a set like this! The only thing about that set that I am a bit disappointed about is that the one head looks to have a  printed face. :-\

It's an ocelot, and it comes in the same wiltopia set with the tapir. I only recently noticed because it's not really featured on the front box picture!

Well, given that Playmobil stuff is frequently simplified from the real-life versions, I didn't assume a Playmobil pangolin would be textured, I mean Playmobil cats & bunnys are plain  smooth & not textured/furry or fluffy so why would Playmobil pangolin be scaly?
Title: Re: Novelties first half 2023
Post by: Macruran on September 19, 2022, 00:05:53
Because pangolin scales are very large and a signature feature of the animal. They're not like snake scales, tiny and indistinguishable from skin at Playmoscale.  :2c:

This should be with Novelties 2023 (https://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=17740.0/): they are images of the trade catalogue that was released today.

I add the pic of the offending centaur 71235 (offending to Tahra – I'm happy with him because I take my PM straight without any extraneous material. That does not mean that Tahra's centaurs aren't great: they are. It's just me and my inhibitions).

Yes, they should - they weren't?   :-[  (I also don't know how I changed the post title to "!?" - I mean, I know we CAN change the titles, but I don't remember ever doing so.. on purpose  ::) )  I'm confused.

Someone pointed out (correctly) that it's a deer body, not a horse. Which doesn't change the bad (for me) proportion. I think that part looks completely unnatural (yes, cause centaurs are completely natural!) - FAR too tall. That being would topple. Gorgeous printing and wings though..

And the dino rise have that winged dino - probably a different color from the current one in the mine, I assume..

Not a theme I'm into, but interesting that the new farm is also '80% sustainable materials'. The cows appear to have felting/fabric patches on them. The self-service farm shop vending machine is cute, and I've seen similar set ups around.

2CV as the latest car - cute but the range is ever growing! The figures with it look cute. Ferrari too, which I'm indifferent too.

Is the band a repackage of Everdreamers stuff?

With the farm being in the sustainable line it means all the animals will be new variations. A couple new horses too I think. The vending machine for the juice bottles was in the zoo theme last year, good reuse of it.
The flying dino Tahra mentions is a Dimorphodon. All of the dinos except maybe the velociraptor are new colors but no additional new molds that release. Only new animal molds in this catalog are the Amazon dolphin and the sloth. That calf in the farm set looks different to me, maybe a new mold there but hard to tell from the one image.

Quite the mix of body styles for the Naruto series. Series 23 is still too much City Life to be interesting. With the fishmonger appearing there's only the blacksmith left for featured buildings in the village, I wonder if they'll do a roundhouse at some point?

The 2CV? To me the only problem is that it's virtually indistinguishable from a Beetle, so I think they should have gone for a darker colour (though maybe the real car didn't come in many colours). I assume it has a fan base - I am aware of it and I have zero interest in cars.

And yes, there is a Ferrari in the trade catalogue, though it is still pending final approval (presumably from Ferrari). I don't know what the model is.

The Citroen 2CV is an iconic car.  The brief to Citroen's designers was to produce a car which could be driven across ploughed fields with a load of eggs in without any eggs being broken.  It was aimed at the rural community with farmers and winemakers in mind as a family replacement for the horse and cart.  It's shape from the side is very much like the VW Beetle when it comes to looks.  It was in production in France from 1938 to 1988 and elsewhere until 1990.  Here's a link:

The 2CV has an enormous cult following in Europe, especially in France and the Benelux, perhaps elsewhere (I don't notice them on the roads here in Germany). Nice car, I just mind that it doesn't have that typical Playmobil look. It is not a toy but a miniature model, with a very different designer mindset to it that what guides normal Playmobil cars.

Set 71020 is a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, if you haven't seen the description or picture for that one.

The new Ayuma sets are definitely interesting. Abjatus (the centaur) in Set 71235 is nice; the jewel in his staff might be a new piece too. The purple ghostly creature in Set 71215 is really nice too! :)

It's also great to see the Novelmore sets with single figures. It's too bad that the sugarloaf helm (in the dragon slayer style with plume) in Set 71212 looks to have a lot of printing. I'm still interested to see better images that show the colours though.

Interesting that Geobra chose to make one of the ugliest cars of all time . I will definitely have to add many to the collection but is there really  fan base for this ?

 The 2CV was the item I instantly wanted out of all this stuff (+ the bunny woman from Figures 23), I'm not really a car person, but I grew up loving the 2CV & Dyane.  I don't think they're ugly at all, but then I'm not into modern cars or sports cars.

The French cop in the 2CV set is great! I like the other two figures as well. They really should do series of "national types" for each country they sell in.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale

It’s a nice modern super car

Perhaps they can go a bit more classic in the next model

F40
250 GTO
288 GTO
Testarossa

When I married her, 35 years ago, my wife had a green 2CV. The column-change stick-shift gearbox was, er, interesting. The fuel guage didn't work, so we carried a petrol can around everywhere we went. We took it on our honeymoon to France, knowing that if we had any problems, we would easily get it fixed. We took out the back seats and slept in it one night (once was enough!). It never let us down once (though I never got the hang of driving on the right!). After that, we sold it and got a red one for a couple of years.

So, I have definitely got to have a PM 2CV, especially if they bring out a green or red one!

Edited after the video in the link Tahra posted jogged my memory about the gear lever!

Wait... there are no eggs in the 2CV set? Surely a large omission! At least they included a "breton top" on the nice lady driving.

They totally should have included eggs! The stripey top is a nice touch at least.

Hahaha, the lifeguard on the quad sports the Michael Knight hair which makes him the Baywatch character. Well played Playmobil, well played.
The Citroen set is pretty cool. I hope that painted eyes won't become the standard. The unfading brown part is such an important part of the Playmobil identity. Remember, Klickys are supposed to be able to smile forever.

Starting in february 2023 there'll be a "playmobil wiltopia magazine" in germany:

https://www.blue-ocean.de/fileadmin/files/mediadaten/Mediadaten/Mediadaten_Unisex_Boys_2023_Blue_Ocean_Entertainment.pdf
(PDF, pg 18 + 19)

Every issue will feature an exploration trip with "family parker" to another region of the planet with focus on natural environment, animals and climate issues and comes with an exclusive and limited playmobil animal, so this could be quite interesting for everyone who is into playmo-animals.

Six issues are planned for 2023.

(props to klickywelt-user Girodu who discovered this first)

Very interesting. I wonder what all they will release, and if it will be different from what we've seen so far.
Looking at their list of releases they show Playmobil  Magazine, Playmobil Novelmore magazine,  Playmobil Pink, and the new Wiltopia.  Ayuma isn't on this list. Gone?

This should be with Novelties 2023 (https://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=17740.0/): they are images of the trade catalogue that was released today.

I add the pic of the offending centaur 71235 (offending to Tahra – I'm happy with him because I take my PM straight without any extraneous material. That does not mean that Tahra's centaurs aren't great: they are. It's just me and my inhibitions).

I remember seeing him on AmClicks. At long last, a true Playmobil brand centaur. Though he does look rather odd where the two bodies meet. Once again, the fans outdo the company. Alas, my poor wallet as well, for I still haven't collected all the Novelmore and Ayuma sets I want.

Series 23 seems very bland. If beige was a series, it would be 23 :-\
I rather like the undead cowboy as that's the second time I've seen a clothed skeleton. Of course, I must have the mermaid and the black dancer is totally welcomed as well, particularly for customization purposes.

The pirate skeleton from 70962 looks really interesting, I may have to look at trying to get a few of those from DS if they ever share a part list.

As currently a Pirates only theme collector in a way, this looks overall to be a bland year. Rest of the items for 2023 I’m not too keen on, was very disappointed with the Fi?ures option for a pirate (I have probably at least 2 Klickys that very closely match the one holding the green parrot and I don’t think the 2 sets he’s from are particularly old). The flaming wheels on 71189 aren’t my cup of tea at all and I find it disappointing they put a hat with a charm peg on the Klicky but neglected to bother providing one. - correction the item list photo shows the charm, they just chose not to put it in the main pictures…

Probably more now that I’m familiar with most previous sets the re-use of Klickys/parts for the theme is getting a little tiresome (70962 for example is just a lot of re-colours of 70414).

I have greater hopes for 2024!

It would seem that an entire fleet of Steck re-releases haven't yet been mentioned in this forum.

Under the tab History, DS will soon begin selling

70955 Museum (basically 6307 with two new figures and loads of accessories)
70956 Blacksmith (basically 6329 with two new figures)
70958 Blue House (basically 7847 but now with one figure and furniture)

They join three attractive sets sold since 2022:

70953 Prison Tower
70954 Bakery
70957 Yellow House

I was able to purchase the museum 70955 today and am very pleased with it. I also like the others. Pretty much all signature parts from the 70s are back in production. Steck is back!

I saw these in another thread and was over the moon.
Made a DS order last week for a steck spare part that I couldn’t get before (archway frame with clips for a door, my Custom House from eBay had the older version of the arch where the door clips were built in and they snapped).

Love the museum and the blacksmith.... they are not yet available here where I live but I don't really know if I should buy them or not. I mean, I want to buy them but I am not sure that I sould  ;D I already bought the two medieval houses back this summer to add to my childhood's medieval castles and sets. Now, adding these other two would be wonderful even though I am seriously thinking about lack of space...but they do look great!

It's not so much the space you have but the space you can fill up that's important. Playmobil is a toy for the imagination so even if you can only display some things at a time you can imagine what the rest would look like if everything was displayed at once.
