Low Loader With 'Jeep Dolly'
« on: November 19, 2005, 17:18:19 »
Hello  All

The next project on my list for Transport International had to be a low loader that was capable of moving the biggest peices of construction equipment such as large earth movers and diggers.
The playmobil version of the low loader trailer is a very good peice of kit but it is slightly to small for the heavy stuff i have plans for in the future, i needed something bigger. So based on a real trailer i stretched the deck which the vehicle stands on and added what they call a 'Jeep Dolly' which helps spread the weight of the load evenly through the wheels of the truck.

Again some of you will remember this from before but i took some new pictures of it outside today.

Regards  Tim

That shot of it all together nicely brings out the size of the conversion Tim.

Hello  Kristian, Gordon  :)9

Thank you both very much for the kind feedback, its allways very much appreciated. I am glad you liked the full picture Gordon, it can be really difficult fitting these vehicles in the picture without loosing detail because they are so big.

Hello  Diana

Thank you for the kind feedback. Space is quite a problem with most of these vehicles and i do have problems displaying them properly, they are just so big.

When all the vehicles are on the road together, for a project, do the police have to  be in front and behind them to warn people of a slow load, and not to pass?

Ever curious,
M

Hello  Meg / All

Wether police escort a load depends quite a lot on its size and weight. As you quite rightly say certain items may need a Police escort to hold traffic back at junctions and to provide protection due to its slow speed. I think its up to the haulage company to notify the Police well in advance of the load taking to the road and its route. The Police in the respective county's will then decide if it warrants their assistance.
The legislation has recently changed to what they call STGO (Special Types General Order). I think this change has meant that more responsibility for organising the safe passage of the load has been handed over to haulage company's.
However when i have my Playmobil vehicles out on the road i allways have a very good excuse to get out my Police cars . Here is a picture i took a while ago of one of my own Playmobil vehicles being escorted by the Police.

Even though there doesn't seem to be much other traffic about, an escort on a road like that's  a good idea, Tim.

wow Tim, that custom is huge! No wonder you have display problems.

Two low loaders like that  carrying wide prefabricated parts for a supermarket tried to drive though the town here. They were stopped by the police and made to back up about two miles, then  take the motorway! It took hours!
