The white faces with gray circles around the eyes will make good customizations for my Japanese Kabuki troupe.

And for my Modern Living albino heroin addict.

They look awesome ...

I'm afraid this is a very dangerous theme ... tempting and therefore VERY danerous  :-[

Not surprised for a figures-only set - I expect things you have to build, will have them.  I'll add the "no instructions" part to 4800, and call upon all DS-orderers to let us know, if they get any of the figures or accessories, what the numbers are.  (Great pictures, though, Andi - I'll use them for temporary parts in the meantime.)

Hmm...you're most probably right, klickies only so no partnumbers...
I thought that was a thing of the past and that now all sets (except blisters, specials & pals and eastereggs) get a list with the numbers... Apparently not, too bad.  :(

thanks, macgayver, for all the ghost pirates review.  :wow:
i am really starting to like the new figures - i like their colors and their design.  :yup:
i am still having a problem with the non-figure parts form these sets.
i don't like the crab, it looks too childish in a grown-up way.  :(
i hate the giant manta ray, the eyes don´t seem to belong to it and the teeth are too absurd (manta rays filter plancton and are quite peaceful).  >:(
the ship just looks to me as an import from "mega-blocks" and i think a more "realistic" approach would go better with the theme.  :-\
the sea tri-head serpent is also very not-oceanic.  :-\
the samll weapons are too medieval for my taste as well.  :(
... but the sperm whale skelleton looks great.  :)
i guess i would prefer this theme to be less agressive - something the figures, even the one who are not smiling, seem to accomplish perfectly.
  :hmm:

Hmmm ...

Has anyone else thought about the possibility that Playmobil may have cleverly slipped past having to pay Disney a licensing fee for their Pirates of the Caribbean? ...  :klickywink:

Actually Richard I think it is those clever Disney folks who have made so many people think they invented ghost pirates and it is some kind of original idea . Just one example is "The Ghost Pirates" novel by William Hope Hodgson, first published in 1909.

Not that Walt was some kind of saint but Disney sure took a strange turn in content when he died & the company grew up out of its adolescent childhood ( similar to when Jim died and the Muppets grew up )

Quite true, Rasputin ...

Henson and Disney ... Now that's quite a pair!

Just as Hans Beck (with Horst Brandstätter as his benefactor) created Playmobil, Jim Henson created the Muppets. Two NEW ideas. Walt Disney, on the other hand, took "old" ideas and made them "new" with his fantastic presentations.

Three great and wonderful creative geniuses. Now that's quite a trio!

However, their "beginnings" are now intrusted with new people with new ideas. All that any of us can hope for is that the new people will never lose sight of the intent of the original creations. A lot to hope for ... But, without hope, where is our future? ...

All the best and a Happy New Year,
Richard

You're too right, Rasputin.  Some time ago I came across an entry on Wikpedia crediting Walt Disney with the creation of the story of the kraken!   8}

LOL

This (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken_(reuzeninktvis)) is the dutch version of Wikipedia when you search for kraken  ???

Oh sorry the Kraken does have it own (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken) definition . The other link is just the 2nd spot on a google search for Kraken  as "Kraken (Pirates of the Caribbean)"

Hmmm ...  :hmm:

And, we're bashing Disney Studios because? ...  :eh?:

Before everyone gets their knickers in a knot, perhaps we should take a look at Wikipedia's specific Kraken sites, rather than jumping to what could be erroneous conclusions by only looking at Wikipedia's Pirates of The Caribbean Kraken site (as Rasputin has suggested).

To make it easy for everyone ...
Click HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken) for the English site!
And, HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken_in_popular_culture) popular culture site!

All the best my Playmofriends!
Healthy, Prosperous and Happy New Year  to you all,
Richard

I'm having some problems too.  I realized my favorite bit about Playmobil is the animals, but am not sure whether these nutty sea monsters fit the category.  I do like the hydra--probably because it reminds me of the "actual" mythical monster.  I hope it is better quality than the new red dragon.

Walt Disney, on the other hand, took "old" ideas and made them "new" with his fantastic presentations.

Three great and wonderful creative geniuses. Now that's quite a trio!

I re-Christian Richard "Captain Superlative" !

Disney immortalized these great folktales, while giving us "historians" a hobby in tracking down the original, unsanitized tales!

You're too right, Rasputin.  Some time ago I came across an entry on Wikpedia crediting Walt Disney with the creation of the story of the kraken!   8}

Wikipedia...  I think it eventually will die a cold death or adopt a more traditional editorial structure.  Check out any topic that is mildly controversial and it turns into a farce of flame wars between anonymous editors.  One vocal Hindu nationalist, for instance, ravages the article about "Alexander the Great" objecting to the term "great" (though it is a 2,500 year old sobriquet) and renaming the article "Alexander of Macedon".  A Greek editor than flies off the handle complaining that this fuels the Republic of Macedon's political ambitions.

Guys!  Guys!  Can I please read a professional historian's bland regurgitation of the details, with mention of the areas where bonafide historians disagree?

The Past Is History, The Future Is A Mystery And The Present Is A Gift ;) i have no idea who said it

history for me is somebody's interpretation on events . I have a history of what happened in our house and so does my wife . They can vary greatly even though we were both there . If somebody was to ask us both what happened they will be getting two very different answers . So now the Historian will have to decide what to immortalize in text .   8}

These protests are all fine and good, until you go back 1000 years and find yourself forced to rely on the Old Testament, the Iliad, and the Odyssey as your explanations of the past.

 :hmm:i am curious timotheos - how can you reliably use books that are more than 2000 or 3000 years old to study history of things 1000 years old? ???

Hi Cachalote, you misread me.

Re-explained post:
In the first millennium, the Old Testament and the Iliad were regarded as prime fonts of historical wisdom.  There was also a Latin epic, called the Aeneid, which medievals would use for divining the future.  One would ask a question, select a random paragraph, and "interpret" that as the solution to the question.

So, my point was: I invited the above posters, who complained that modern historical research is all bunk, to adopt the Old Testament and the works of Homer for their historical enlightenment.
