Title: review of 6260 ostriches and 6306 advertising pillar
Post by: reimagination on October 31, 2013, 01:57:28
Wishing to add a tad more variety to what has become a sea of klicklies, I purchased the Advertising Pillar and some ostriches.

My first thought when I opened the ostriches is they're too short (the average adult being around 8 feet), but then putting them next to a klicky, they may be a tad too short, but are definitely much taller than them, so they work. I like the joint where the legs attach to the body, because it actually allows for more movement than one would think, and I can even use it to make the female appear slightly shorter than the male, so I'm pretty excited.

My next purchase was the advertising stand. Now those who're fans of the Victorian sets and have been collecting for a while may have this from when it came out way back when, but it's new to me. Unfortunately, it comes with none of the figures that the older one did, but that's okay since, like I said, my collection is becoming a sea of klickies. There are two things I like about this. One is that it reminds me of Epcot in Florida. I lived in Florida for a while, and at least once a year we'd go to Epcot, and in the France section, there's a big pillar like this, and it just brings back good memories. The second thing I like, and think is really funny is that the artwork shows real people and not klickies. It's like if klickies are stylised people, in the world of klickies are we stylised klickies? Funny to think about.
The hardest thing about this item is getting the sticker on. I found a seam in the pillar where the mold for it had met and used that to line up the sticker, and even then it took a couple of tries to get it right, because the sticker fits perfectly, so there's no fudging room. But it's a nice, thick sticker, so at least it was easy enough to lay down without air bubbles.

So there's my fairly lack luster review. I'm not disappointed with either set, and now there's just a tad more variety on my display shelves.

They are great sets. I will add that the legs of the ostriches can be pulled out so they can be set laying on the ground.
When I was in Nuremberg there were three or four of the advertising pillars in the old town. The pillar is very much to prototype for the area.

That type of advertising pillar is quite common in Continental Europe.

I, too, found it difficult to get the sticker aligned properly.  Indeed, on my next parts order I must order an extra sticker!
