Playmobil does not make steel wheels. You have to replace them by LGB or Liliput wheels.
Personally I prefer Liliput L999304 (with spokes) or Liliput L999300.

Liliput L999304 metal wheels.

The bogie in the middle from the RCE. The motor is removed, two axles from the Playmobil electric motor are placed. This RCE will run behind my RCE as a dummy.

What a little cleaning and a few spare parts can do. I have now a dummy train unit for my own Playmobil RCE. This RCE must have lights, but I can't check if they are still working. I have no idea where to find the cables that connect the lights with the battery holder. Still, it is a fine train unit to see, specially if you add some passengers.

RCE 4011 together with 4016 forms an impressive train. The RC motor from 4016 is strong enough to pull the entire combination, inclusive the luggage car. That is to say: on flat terrain. I also have a bogie with a 12 V= motor that is much stronger.

Look superb, Marco.  I wish I hadn't sold my second 4016 now!  Still, I can always buy a 4011, maybe two, and sell my remaining 4016!

Apparently I cannot buy these wheels in Canada but yes the spoke railwheels go with the time period.
