Certainly more pics, Richard, please, and I think we'd all better do as Sylvia says - as I mentioned in a post in another thread, her new avatar has that look which says "You will do as you are told and enjoy doing it!"  Don't be fooled by that wink - it's just to put you off you guard.

If people are going to cry whenever I move or split a topic it will make my job a lot harder. 8} ![/b][/size]

Whilst Tim Dawkins is off looking for more Caribbean sites to share with everyone, I'll answer Meg's question.

None of the Virgin Islands have fresh water. All of our water is caught from the rain on our roofs and stored in large concrete cisterns beneath our houses. Water Island HAD a fresh water pond that some say was spring fed. Unfortunately, the pond is now open to the sea and has become a salt water bay.

Before Tim Dawkins left he had this to say, "Now, Richard, yer bein' d'fine gentleman dat y'are ... ye can be sayin' it delicate like t'dat yeller-'aired lass, wot got d'tic wot make 'er eye be blinkin' all d'time, dat pirates never cry ... No matter wot it be lookin' like, dey's not cryin!"

I'm sure that Tim Dawkins and his little buddy, Chi-Chi will just be fine. He a bit gruff on the outside, but has a heart of gold (most of the time) ... ;)

All the best,
Richard (and Tim ... and Chi-Chi)

Hello, everyone ...

FM T.Dawkins (and Chi-Chi) just dopped this off on their way to find some historical sites to share with y'all.

If you look off in the distance (just below Tim's hand), there appears to be three small islands.

Actually, it's one island connected with sand spits.

This is Buck Island. (Most populated islands in the Caribbean have a small Buck Island just off their coast.)

"Buck Island" was where the young native men were placed when they became a nuisance to the young native women. ... :)

Aaargh ... Too far t'be swimmin' thar' matey ...

'Ere be Buck Island. And, yer not be seein' Mr. Tim Dawkins on Buck Island!

Buck Island be due South o'St.Thomas and Water Island also lay off d'South side. But dey be separated by Frenchmen's Reef and 'bout eight miles o'water!

Would you be snorkeling on the reef?

Hello, Meg ...

As you can well imagine, FM Tim Dawkins, like any self-respecting pirate, NEVER snorkels ... ;)

However, if you're asking me ... No, we do not snorkel on the South side of the island. And, actually, the best snorkeling is over on St.john (a mere three and a half miles away). A long swim, but a short ferry ride.

Magen's Bay on St. Thomas (North side of island) is good swimming, but usually not great snorkeling. Coki Beach (East side of island) is pretty good for snorkeling. But, I really prefer St, John for the best snorkeling.

Why do you ask?

All the best,
Richard

Well, I liked the snorkeling I did in St John.

I wondered if the snorkeling was comparable on St Thomas

Which places are the best snorkeling on St John? ( so that I know if I get a chance to return.)

I guess I cant be a pirate, I love swimming in the ocean too much
