Title: Pegasus sets 5143 and 5144
Post by: Luis on December 31, 2011, 17:00:45
These are the two first official playmobil pegasus sets - they won't be released in the US until the second half of 2012 (in August to be more precise, unless TRU brings them first) but as a fan fo the Magic Theme I just couldn't wait that long and I asked Santa to bring them from Switzerland (a friend of mine).

I'm going to start with 5144, which is the white pegasus with princess and fountain. Here's a pic of the box:

and the playing options side:

The box is very wide, I guess playmobil now makes them that size so that putting together and taking apart don’t become a pain in the neck. My first thought was: Wow this pegasus is REEEAAALLY BIG! - Will show size comparison to other animals in another picture.

What I did first was play with him, he’s so beautiful! And this is the wing mechanism. I’m not sure if this could have been made more realistic but Works perfectly to make the wings move freely.

The pegasus is totally rideable! :D

Here’s the princess, without dress – Her torso looks very custom versatile, and I love her boots because they are horse rider boots but with a princess touch.

This is her with the dress on…the hoop skirt has this glitterish look (not very visible with the flash). This is a new tone in a hoop skirt but I wish they had made a totally different color or combination.

The parts for the fountain in this set, unlike that from 4137 (http://playmodb.org/setpics/4137.jpg), doesn’t come together with system x connectors, which is really cool because it’s less time consuming...

The colors of the accesories match the rest of the stuff in the set, like the princess dress, etc.

This is the fountain put together, and the food for the pegasus. I hope this pegasus won't poop apple or carrot ice cream. ;)

Here’s the pegasus with the headdress and saddle – in my opinion these accesories make it look very Barbie-ish. I have always loved horses since I was little, and I think the horses Mattel makes for Barbies are really cool up to date, but I want this pegasus to be part of my Magic crew, which isn’t a girly thing…I think I’m going to use it in my pictures without those accesories.

Here’s the size comparison. As you can see the pegasus has the same facial/body patterns as the new horses, they’re significantly bigger though. The pegasus standing next to a klicky doesn’t really look that huge, but compared to a unicorn the latter looks super tiny! I guess they also made it this size so that girls feel they're playing with a big horse like those of Barbie, etc.

Let’s not move on to 5143, the carriage with brown pegasus.

The wing mechanism is the same as the other pegasus. I think the carriage is very pretty, and so is this pegasus in this color! I like that both pegasuses have these tatoo looking things printed on their four legs:

I like the princess details on her dress, and that crown. Here’s her and her pink chest.

And here’s both all set up and ready to be played it. All in all, I think these new creatures were a WONDERFUL addition to both the Magic Theme as well as the line of mythological animals! :) – they’re a MUST for all fans of magic sets. Maybe a third pegasus would’ve been nice, but at least it was a good start. I’m assuming in the next few years we’ll see more pegasuses in different colors like it happened with the unicorns (maybe in exclusive sets?) as well as foals and hopefully in different positions, which I would really look forward to.

That's it for now, hope this info was useful. If anyone needs additional pics or info just let me know.
These pictures were obviously improvised because it's just a review but I'm now thinking what kind of professional looking pictures I'm going to come up with featuring these two beauties.

Oh, my wallet hates you too!

Gonna have to get these NOW after that review!  (though I'm not fond of that chariot thing)

Thank you ;)

Thanks for the review Luis. I think the viney stuff for the white ones head and rear would look better in green, like it's actual vines, or maybe in tan like straw or rope.
I really dislike the tattoo things on the legs. I will probably need 2 of each eventually so I can remove those for a set.
They certainly are bi, aren't they. I hadn't noticed the size difference until now.

Post by: Luis on December 31, 2011, 20:06:15
yeah, I think the tattoos were a little unnecesary, but I didn't find them that ugly in a first instance

I guess the main reason why the chariot looks odd is because a pegasus isn't meant to drag carriages...they're meant to fly! and hence something with wheels looks pretty unmatching here

I love the first klicky. She's gorgeous! :)

Ditto for me on the first klicky! I can't recall another princess who can also actually ride a horse, so I'm very excited for this set. I love her red hair as well.

Thanks for the review! Looking forward to seeing this set in the US this year.

Does the chariot fit on a normal horse? I really like the size and shape of the wings. They will look great on the back of a klicky

Thanks Luis. Santa also brought these for my daughter Sophie and she thinks they are wonderful. Both female figures are very pretty and I actually think the chariot/coach is very sturdy. I am feeling that they are definitely Barbieish though. Whilst I can understand the need to appeal to little girls, I would have liked them to be more like the unicorn style. I dont like the tattoo on the legs either but the garland is sweet when attached. I do agree that they would have looked far nicer as green vines though :)

Does the chariot fit on a normal horse?

actually, YES! :D Look at the pics, the saddle looks a little big for the (new style) horse, BUT it fits perfectly onto the body:

Linda, I bet your girl is super happy with them - I can't stop looking at them just to admire how beautiful they are. 8-)

Panos, my thoughts exactly - maybe an evil pegasus too?

How long before Macgayver has painted one black? Probably already has I would think.  :) There definitely needs to be a black one I think.

Quite some time ago - my sis still has it ;-)

And yes - there should be a black one.

I am still in and out of the thought of buying one. I would looooooove to have a pegasus. But these do look extrmely "Barbie" to me. I am very doubtfull the would fit in a fantasy setting. I hadn't realised they were larger as a normal horse either. That means that all the barding and headgear won't fit either.
They are lovely ... but I do doubt there usefullness for me...

Thanks for showing the set though. I would have been disappointed if I had bought one. Now I know what to expect.

Thanks

Bogro

Impossible to, not through box art nowadays ... I miss those old boxes (till 90s?) that brought real non-photoshopped pictures :hmm:

You couldo rely on the box. Not anymore.

Nice review... very pretty sets. I agree the pegassus are gorgeous... but I can't help thinking those wings would come in handy for a human angel custom! But I'd have to build a support for the custom, it couldn't stand up by itself with those wings!!!  :-\

mmm the first part of the magic theme... 90's, witches and wizards and enchanted forest, but fairies and magic castles nope. The designs and colors are just too much for me. Reminds me of my sister's "My little Pony" collection.... yack!
