Title: The revival of the Victorian theme (2022)!
Post by: bml87 on November 12, 2021, 10:46:29
After our friends of Amclicks (http://amclicks.org/foro/novedades-playmobil/nuevo-catalogo-playmobil-plus-2022/) posted the news, it seems that Playmobil itself released the pictures online as well!

So I decided to make a separate topic for this amazing revival with all the pictures in high resolution! (click the pictures to enlarge)

This is great - I wasn't around for the earlier Victorian sets. I'm looking fwd to getting these.

I'm so excited. I own most of this collection from years ago. But the new adult bedroom set looks great. I'd love to see everyone's custom mansions, as I'm hoping to add on to mine. :)

I am very sorry they went with the same colors - except the bedroom = :love:

The others.. I guess the small house (we don't have) will be TWO fortunes... And the issue there was then is the same now - the house is almost the same. Seems kinda of a waste.

Comparison with the original sets:

70890 - 5300 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5300): Large Victorian mansion
They seem to have taken the same picture of the 1995 box, someone at Amclicks (http://amclicks.org/foro/novedades-playmobil/nuevo-catalogo-playmobil-plus-2022/msg85683/#msg85683) pointed out that the flowers are not in position underneath the most right window of the first floor.
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70890_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org//backs/5/5300_box_1995.jpg)

70891 - 5305 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5305): Small Victorian mansion
This picture also seems to be the one of the 1995 box.
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70891_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org/setthumbs/5/5305_thumb.jpg)

70892 - 5312 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5312): Children's room
Both sets look identical to me.
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70892_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org//backs/5/5312_box.jpg)

70893 - 5313 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5313): Baby's room
The new set has a different baby and grandmother (the printed glasses is the more recent print). The furniture seems to come in a lighter blue, but it could be the lighting of course:
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70893_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org/setpics/5/5313.jpg)

70894 - 5320 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5320): Dining room
Seems to be the same picture.
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70894_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org//backs/5/5320_box_1995.jpg)

70895 - 5324 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5324): Bathroom
Seems to be the same picture as well, does anyone know if the original parts came printed? I wonder if they will come printed again, or will they provide stickers...
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70895_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org//backs/5/5324_box.jpg)

70896 - 5326 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5326): Garden with terrace
Seems to be the same picture.
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70896_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org//backs/5/5326_box.jpg)

70897 - 5315 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5315): Living room with fireplace
The fireplace won't have the "animated" fire as in the original, also the glasses of the grandfather seem to be the more recent print.
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70897_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org//backs/5/5315_box.jpg)

70970 - 5326 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5326): Kitchen
Seems to be the same picture.
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70970_product_detail)(https://playmodb.org//backs/5/5322_box.jpg)

70971 - 5325 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5325): Bedroom
This set seems to have the biggest change! The new colour of the furniture is amazing! Very useful for the Western sets! Also the new carpets seem to be very nice.

Thank you for the pictures! Great to see the houses in the correct colours.

Slightly pick and mix with the furniture sets, and surprised they went for a total re-colour for the bedroom set. Happy to have them though, furniture in wood is always welcome.

I'd say these aren't the most wanted Victorian sets for me, and given they are issuing the houses they could have put out the extension floor, but overall this is very welcome

This is really great. I'm willing to tolerate scooby doo and laser dinosaurs if we get reissues like this. Beautiful sets that are a cornerstone of the legend of Playmobil.  8-)

Do all the rooms fit in the large house I wonder? If my calculations are right they do if both children's bedrooms go in the attic (seen and not heard!  ;D)

I'm surprised they decided to revive the theme with almost identical sets. Personally, I'm not that excited because I have all these sets, and some of them (like the bedrooms) I have both versions. It's the smaller 'street' sets where I have gaps. I might get the new bedroom anyway because the brown is lovely. I kind of wish they recolored all of them, especially the kitchen and bathroom. I have two houses and only enough plumbing for one, lol. Maybe it'll become easier to get window parts to finish the FAO mini house.

The floral print in the bathroom was originally printed. They trimmed baby's hair. The original baby looks more Victorian.

They trimmed baby's hair.

The original baby was a girl. The modern one is non-binary. So you aren't quite correct about modernisation, Bolingbroke!

Once the bathroom was released, there was always a bit of a problem about fitting all the room sets into the house.

The parents bedroom really has to be in the attic unless you remove the stairs. When they first re-issued the furniture sets (1997?) was when they split the nursery into two sets, which might have been to provide enough room sets for 5300+the extension. As a child I used to sometimes use the bathroom sets to divide the attic into two rooms.

I have the original furniture sets mostly, so I might get the white nursery sets. I also think my Victorian Wedding 5339 has a broken chair, so it's useful that the white chair is back in that set (if the UK ever gets spare parts again...)

It's a shame the Study 5310 didn't make the cut - the bureau in that set is a lovely piece.

That's why we have to buy both houses ;D . Also, my wallet:

Great, let's hope they'll print it again in this edition!

Fingers crossed... Let's hope they revive more Victorian sets during the year... Still a lot of PLUS sets are unknown. I assume we will get more news in the next coming weeks!

Oh, although I have this set, I really hope they revive this one as well! That bureau is indeed a beautiful piece, also for the Western theme!

This revival is also great to mix it with the world of Heidi:

The large mansion could host this family (70258 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=70258)):
(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/70258_product_detail)

The smaller villa could be the perfect setting for Heidi's classroom (70256 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=70256)) as well, I imagine a classroom at the attic:

In an earlier post (https://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=17573.msg317479#msg317479) I asked if the original parts were printed (or stickered), so Ismene replied to that. The picture is the same one indeed, we can only hope now that the parts come printed again and not stickered...

Am I mistaken (I haven’t looked recently ) but didn’t the original 5300 have no stairs and you had to buy add-on sets?

I thought if you wanted to fit all the furniture you had to put in the stairway plugs giving you more floor space

I checked the 1990 catalogue and the 5300 always have been the same (they just changed the picture in 1995 for the box). About the stairways, here's the manual (https://playmobil.scene7.com/is/content/Playmobil/5300pdf.pdf).

There were no stairs included in 5301 – you could buy them separately: 7775 - Grande Mansion Staircase (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7775)

It came with stairs, and you can fit everything in (more or less) with the stairs in place, but it means it can be a bit tight, especially if you wanted to put the piano in too. It really revolved around whether you wanted to have a bathroom upstairs or the study (and how dedicated you were to recreating Victorian levels of over-filled rooms!)

To be honest these are the sets I'd really like. I got most sets first time around, but there's a few gaps but bits that got lost or broken over the years. But I'm not too optimistic - surely everything would have leaked at once? My only glimmer of hope is that the yellow-dress woman from the park fence set has been for sale on eBay from Malta for years and I've never worked out why  ???

In the Victorian era, it was totally normal to have baby/toddler boys with longish hair and dresses. So the original is already non-binary.

It came with the stairs, but it also came with that little floor piece so that you could take out the stairs and have more space.

I think, as a child, I put the parents and the baby in the attic, usually. I'm not quite sure because I had the 5305 first, then the extra floor. I didn't have the 5300 until a few years later.

I could really use some, not yellow, fencing.

 :lol: Yes, I was going to say that, historically speaking, all babies/toddlers wore dresses (there are romantic suggestions for this, but you only need to think about the practicalities of getting a small child onto a potty before the advent of Velcro and elastic).

Thinking about it, it's quite odd that they didn't make long-skirted girls for so long

Someone at Amclicks (http://amclicks.org/foro/novedades-playmobil/nuevo-catalogo-playmobil-plus-2022/msg85793/#msg85793) discovered that the webpages for the products on the official Playmobil are already reserved! Which could indicate that the sets might go on sale before the end of the year.

I did the research myself and these are the results for the German website (links can't be opened yet, though):
https://www.playmobil.de/nostalgisches-grosses-puppenhaus/70890.html => Nostalgic big dollhouse

Let's nip this in the bud – it was a (silly) joke of mine, Oliver! I mean: bml87 may be right or wrong with his urls: there is no way of telling yet. But I am certainly wrong: mine is entirely fictitious, not based on any evidence. As far as I know, the Mississippi Steamboat will never enter production. Sorry for raising hopes.

Oh, but the links are correct, these come from the Playmobil site itself, they're just not filled with any data yet (maybe I wasn't very clear about that), but the link descriptions are reserved in their system.

On the other hand: all in for the Mississippi steamboat!

Go to any set on the Playmobil site, for example:

https://www.playmobil.de/adventskalender-badespass-meerjungfrauen/70777.html

=> Now change the article number "70777" in the search bar into one of the new set numbers e.g. "70890"
=> Like this: https://www.playmobil.de/adventskalender-badespass-meerjungfrauen/70890.html
=> Now hit "Enter"
=> The website reloads and changes the link in the search bar into: https://www.playmobil.de/nostalgisches-grosses-puppenhaus/70890.html

I mean I was fantasizing about it a week or so ago and lo and behold! Sheesh, this combined with my desire for flaming horses and clip-on shoes, I must be an inadvertent genie or prophet  or something. I should wish for more stuff.... >:D Any ideas?

I actually love the new wooden look to the parents bedroom. My only worry is the quality of the plastic for the mansion. It'd be a travesty to bring this beautiful relic back, only to completely botch it up with bad materials.  :'( I so wanna make a mega mansion.

Also, I don't the trick is gonna work for me. It keeps leading back to the "UUPS!" page.

I did the research myself and these are the results for the German website (links can't be opened yet, though):
https://www.playmobil.de/nostalgisches-grosses-puppenhaus/70890.html => Nostalgic big dollhouse
https://www.playmobil.de/nostalgisches-kleines-puppenhaus/70891.html => Nostalgic small dollhouse
https://www.playmobil.de/children%27s-room/70892.html => Children's room
https://www.playmobil.de/babyzimmer/70893.html => Baby room
https://www.playmobil.de/wohnzimmer/70894.html => Living room
https://www.playmobil.de/badezimmer/70895.html => Bathroom
https://www.playmobil.de/gartenterrasse/70896.html => Garden and terrace
https://www.playmobil.de/kaminzimmer/70897.html => Fireplace room
https://www.playmobil.de/kueche/70970.html => Kitchen
https://www.playmobil.de/schlafzimmer/70971.html => Bedroom

Would be nice to order the sets before Christmas!
I discovered that this morning too! The circus sets are reserved already too :)

My only worry is the quality of the plastic for the mansion. It'd be a travesty to bring this beautiful relic back, only to completely botch it up with bad materials.  :'( I so wanna make a mega mansion.

So far all revivals have been with a good quality of plastic, some people complain about the new plastic materials, but to be honest, I hardly notice the difference. At least with the Colorado Station, the Western Farm, the Western School, ... All were just perfect.

Also, I don't the trick is gonna work for me. It keeps leading back to the "UUPS!" page.

That's why I said only the links are reserved, nothing on the pages yet. Nevertheless, when the links and pictures are online (which is the case), it indicates the sets will go on sale soon.

Hold up…. CIRCUS?! THAT’S COMING BACK TOO?!  :o

There's a topic about the new circus, here (https://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=17574.0) ;)

I just saw the circus page and I'm absolutely shocked. I just can't get over this...the TWO big themes that I thought would never see the light of day again, and here there are returning at the same dang time. Now I can get my patio set again and the smaller house without paying insane prices on eBay!  :love:

Also it's a relief about the materials. Looking back on the rereleased dream palace, mine at least seems to be standard quality.

Funny that it says "the good old days", for them it was referring to Victorian times, but for us it refers to Victorian theme times!  ;D

After seeing that scan of the catalog page with prices, it's interesting to note that the piano player was reissued in 2017 for a full dollar less than they charged back in the 1990s.  (It also lacked the rug, but hey, I'll live and hadn't really missed having it.)

But the original piano played Für Elise. The new one is mute.

I'm betting the finials on the house will be the soft kind used on the FAO mini house, rather the original harder plastic.

They apparently think we'll poke our eyeballs out with tiny plastic finials. What annoys me is that it's a slightly different shade of gold.

My wallet failed to make the transition into the afterlife. It's a haunted Victorian theme with a wee little ghostie in the corner (the soul of my dear departed money). I use fabric pouches for everything, so it didn't occur to me until now that using the ghostie pouch for money was maybe a bad idea.

I wonder how much the revived sets will be. They weren't cheap in the 90s.

Since I was never able to have the sets as a child - also, in my time toys between boys and girls were strictly separated - , I will buy them this time, no doubt. So I will have to order them blindly, without watching the prices...  :-[ I mean, such iconic sets, I really want them in my collection.

I guess there's a little hope the extension floor will be released too, for now all the boxed sets have been revealed, but I can perfectly imagine the extension will come in a plastic bag (or a big plain carton box) like most of the PLUS assortment.

And apart from that, I'm really curious what they will do if they see these sets sell greatly? Do you think they might consider to revive more Victorian sets?

And last but not least: let's hope that Playmobil is finally getting it:
1. A regular assortment that pleases everyone (but mostly children): happening right now
2. An attractive franchise assortment: we are getting there, I think they did really well on Scooby Doo, Heidi and the cars
3. A collector's assortment (within the PLUS assortment): happening right now, but there's still space for more
4. Still missing: an international website like Lego Ideas on which we can put our ideas and where people can vote for it.

Looking at the doll house prices they are typically never north of $200 . The current one is $150.

I think it would be tough for them to make the price too expensive as their real market still is parents buying for children. It would be great to think Geobra did this for us but we all know what they think of us nutty, annoying, argumentative, opinionated, impossible to please, die hard collectors/fans. Trying to capitalize on us and pricing it at $300- ish would just backfire. Their main goal is to move boxes at a profit. I doubt this will go the direction of the $500 Startreck (obviously for nostalgic adults) type of marketing

I’m anticipating $175-ish mainly because I want as many as possible. Luckily this is not a licensed theme so it should go on the many many 25-35% off sales

I think thry can keep it in price range of the other current dollhouse themes. All of the molds already exist and that's the most expensive part of doing a new set. They may have had to remake a few molds but probably not many.

On many fora I check regularly, there's much to do about the pricing for the Victorian sets, some are really aiming way too high in my opinion. Can we assume some sellers of the original parts / complete sets are getting nervous? From the moment the parts are available in the Parts Service, the value of the (original) second hand parts will (almost) be worthless?

I think you have a point, bml87: the present ecstasy of the collectors community goes hand in hand with the woes of the predatory sellers/hoarders – the upcoming release threatens to sink the value of their stocks, just like it happened with the 3627 a.k.a. 6464. I'm just an occasional seller but take me as an example: a couple of years ago I collected locally a boxed 5300 with interiors sets, again boxed, and all that at a fairly reasonable price – mind you, it wasn't exactly cheap. When it turned out that I don't really have any space to display or play with the mansion, I decided to complete the sets with the aim of making some profit. The plan to sell has now been shelved, partly also because another house move is looming, and my prospects for more playmospace are increasing. Perhaps I get to play with the mansion after all! :yup:

From what I've seen of previously rereleased sets in the US market, there will be a high priced sell off from people wanting to get max price before the rereleased sets hit the market. Then there will be a stretch when the sets are available where prices will be ok for a while. Once thry disappear from the current assortment again, probably 2 years, the prices will creep back up pretty quickly.

Look at other re-release sets

The description Tim gave is very accurate.

Some sets that were re-released and now discontinued are sky high again . Also the originals still get even higher prices

Worthless , if that was the case I’d have mountains (oh wait I do) ok many many mountains of playmo

Even if initially it’s not on the “every other week 25% off sale” eventually it will get there

Right now even the licensed sets are getting their own 25% off rounds

Pre Halloween it was Those meddling kids

Currently it’s ghostbusters

25% doesn’t seem like a lot but at the end of the month it adds up

Absolutely, but there have been some beautiful sets recently: the Rijksmuseum sets, Van Gogh, the Greek Gods, ... One theme we are definitely missing is: an Aztec / Inca theme! Playmobil has a large Latin fanbase, they really should consider it!

But back on topic:

Worthless , if that was the case I’d have mountains (oh wait I do) ok many many mountains of playmo

I was more referring to the resale of the Victorian sets. Of course, the value of one's personal collection is always priceless! But what I meant is: at one point I will have the option to buy completely new parts (and sets) from Playmobil or buy secondhand parts (or sets) from a reseller. Believe me, I will definitely go for the new parts from Playmobil. Unless the resellers reduce their prices with at least 75% and this is what I mean with "(almost) worthless" in my earlier post (https://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=17573.msg317626#msg317626). For years the resellers had like a monopoly on the Victorian sets and it seems some are getting nervous for obvious reasons ;)

I guess in the end this also might have played in the decision of Playmobil the revive those iconic sets. If you see that resellers can ask 3x or 4x the price of the original product (and every week new mansions pop up on second hand websites): those are lost incomes for Playmobil itself. If you can bring the same product again on the market for a cheaper price, collectors and normal customers will definitely buy the new stuff.

I'm all for the reissues, though I wish they were in different colors (mostly because I have the originals  :-[ ), but playmobil does NOT want money.

Also... wondering.. what IS "playmobil plus"? Is it still to be hidden where nobody knows about it? Are they not gonna put the victorian reissues in the stores? Seriously?

I know things vary from country to country, but certainly in the UK you have more chance of people seeing Playmobil online than in whatever toy shops still exist (ignoring the fact that they don't have to give the retailers a cut of things that they sell directly)

I too wish Geobra would have changed the colors just a bit. Similar to how they did the Victorian car and truck . That way the originals retain uniqueness and we get variation in our dioramas

The problem is that even when shops in the UK have Playmobil in the packaging is now so much like Lego that it's difficult to spot the Playmobil.

I know what it is, :P - what I meant is, where do they plan to go with it - they always kept the ds a secret, and AFAIK, they do the same with the renamed version.

I find it odd (well, kinda) if they plan to bury the victorians in there... instead of a general release.

Yes, that's why I put the link so we can discuss the (non-Plus) December sets over there instead of here...  ;)

Hello playmofriends! So excited about this!!! I bought this mansion for my 2 and 4 year old daughters back in 1992. We still have it and all the furniture sets, although many of the pieces are lost or broken.  I hope it will be in my budget to rebuy it! Shame the reissues don't have the electrical features (is it because the battery cover doesn't meet current safety standards?)  The flickering fire was AMAZING. I wonder if ours still works. Like all of you, my hope is that they'll reissue all the small sets. The advertising pillar with figures has been on my wish list for nearly 30 years!! The lamp posts would also be fantastic, but they must work! Sylvanian families did some lovely ones with their city theme but the light is rather dim. The playmobil ones were quite bright.
Well, I've just joined this lovely group after years of trying to break my obsession and sell all my playmobil. Fortunately I hadn't got far.....

I have a couple of Victorian lamp posts I picked up second hand that are made for G-Scale railways - it might be worth looking into those (mine need to be wired in through a hole in a table, which isn't ideal, but battery powered ones might be available).

I'm not sure why they haven't included the electricals, other than to save cost (similarly the re-issued piano lacks the music box)

The lamp and advertising pillar were both already re-released years ago

As much as I would love to see them re-re-released I think it’s doubtful

I remember the shell of the lamp post was re released some years ago and I bought a few. They were't much good without the working light-bulb  :(.  We didn't get the re release of the advertising pillar here in the UK. I remember looking at it longingly on Playmobil.de !!

With the DS lamps an LED was a perfect fit and this could then be connected to a battery.

Here's my review and a discussion on LEDS with some links at the time to eBay:

A picture of the physical French Plus catalogue appeared on Amclicks (http://amclicks.org/foro/novedades-playmobil/nuevo-catalogo-playmobil-plus-2022/msg86617/#msg86617). This confirms that the sets for sure will be released in January, but I guess they will release the Victorian sets already in December since the pictures are already online on their website and these are perfect Christmas gifts of course!

Some prices are there as well, but I guess we all expected those prices ;)

On the other hand, a bit disappointed that the give away set will be the same as this year :(

Hi, The mansion was £100 in the UK in 1992.  I got it on offer for about £67.  I still remember how happy I was to get such a bargain! My girls (4yrs & 2yrs) got up at 4am on Christmas morning and tried to carry it into our bedroom! I didn't think to build it beforehand, so I ended up trying to build it while cooking dinner on Christmas day! It took about 8 hours. Bear that in mind, folks ;) xx

Sounds like I had a similar Christmas to your daughters - though it was my sister who was forced to do the assembly for me at some ungodly hour of the morning!

If I'm not mistaken the January sale action was only valid on the regular sets that leave the assortment, not the PLUS, because the new PLUS is released in January since last year.

But for sure the PLUS assortment has many sale actions during the year.

Oh no, I didn't  :lol: Both are correct uses of the word 'sale' - I just meant that I expect they will do a 25% off in January, so I wouldn't rush to buy immediately. I didn't realise they exclude the Playmobil Plus from that one, but it makes sense.

In the US ? Yes the 5300 were $200 discounted to $100 when I was buying them in 2004 at brick and mortar stores (usually hidden in back rooms collecting so much dust you could grow corn)

So the price today is reasonable. Geobra  can’t really charge much over that seeing as all the dolllhouses are always south of $200

From inflation calculation

“ $200 in 1990 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $423.24 today, an increase of $223.24 over 31 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 2.45% per year between 1990 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 111.62%. “

Try again in the new year, Gordon (no chance before that) by sending an email to Customer Services with your list attached. They will do parts orders, despite what the uk website states.

And yes, this is a direct consequence of Brexit and everyone having to implement new export and customs procedures.

Ended up pulling the trigger on the house since I received the three room sets today and fell in love with them.

I wonder if later on they’ll reoffer the extra floor. Then again if it’s on sale, I’d be tempted to get another house and use it to make a bigger mansion.

Isn't the 1st January the end of the Brexit transition period, making it even harder to send things from the EU to the UK?

The extra floor would be useful because it offers a single window wall and a straight connector, which gives a lot more potential in terms of varying what you can build.

Nor have I, to be honest - as I 'only' had one and you're pretty limited as to what you can do.

It's quite strange though, because for 5301 they made a 3 window wall. I'm assuming they would release it, if the houses sell well enough

It suddenly occurred to me - if you're not aware, while the Victorian Mansion is Steck, it is not compatible with any other Steck buildings. I have seen dios with a ground floor using regular walls and an upper story of Victorian parts, but I couldn't say how easily they sit on top of each other.

Do you mean plate size-wise or male/female connection dimension-wise? Never thought they wouldn’t, and looking forward to trying, for eg, to use the Victorian base plates as foundation for a classic castle steck building.

Mine arrives on Tuesday, can’t wait.

Unexpectedly I received the mansion four days before it was supposed to turn up. Great job by UPS there. Now I am putting it together with my daughter, and I must say it is simply delightful. :love:

A couple of thoughts:

I think they should package the wallpaper better. As it is, it was loose in the box, and it is extremely easy for it to get bent. Maybe they can put it in its own box. I will be buying a spare set if and when it becomes available on DS, because I am aware it gets damaged and discoloured with time. I shall also try to get spares of the curtains.

The way the flowers attach to the stems is very very annoying, they keep falling off. I think I shall glue them on using model glue.

But all in all I am very happy, and looking forward to the other sets  :love: :love:

I was also thinking that they better release the other ‘outside’ sets as well, because if they don’t, the already expensive secondary market prices are gonna get much worse, with all the new mansion reissue owners.

I wish they'd release new versions of them, since I believe I have the originals...

Interesting - this may have changed at some point in the run, but when I got it originally the wallpaper was already glued onto the walls. At least it means you can change it easily if you want it.

The outside sets are what I want really, and I'd be curious which (if any) they release, or if they do them in batches of a few a year. If they were going to do new versions of stuff, I'd have preferred it to be the furniture sets, which are pretty widely available.

I didn’t understand your last point. You’d prefer them to re-release those sets that are abundant on the secondary market rather than the rarer ones?

I meant to quote Tahra too - but I meant, if they were going to re-imagine any of the Victorian sets (so new colours or different figures etc) then I'd prefer it to be the sets where the originals are available. Which is what they've (seemingly randomly) done with the bedroom set.

With the outside sets, I'd prefer re-releases of the originals, to complete my collection

I see. Yes, I don’t mind different colours especially if they improve on the originals like they did with some of the reissues.

This morning we finished putting the mansion together. Some more thoughts:

Apparently I am not the only one having problems with the flowers. Were the original ones ABS or PVC? I suspect they were ABS which is why those stayed put while these are literally spit off the stems. Other people on FB mentioned it.

Speaking of the quality of the plastic, despite the fact that the steck pieces do look like ABS, they’re a kind of … gummy ABS if that makes sense? They don’t snap in place like old Steck did. In fact my whole attic is a bit wavy for want of a better word.

And speaking of the attic. The wallpaper goes over a number of separate roof pieces, so if you’re going to dismantle the house eventually I suggest NOT using the double sided tape to affix the wallpaper to the walls. Wedge it in instead, and then install the white window borders as in the manual, and it will keep the wallpaper in place.

And now to find my Revell model glue and get started on those flowers …

I also didn't use the tape for the attic wallpaper and for the other wallpapers I used poster putty:

Using putty is a good idea. Thing is, if I’m gonna remove the wallpaper from the walls (not the attic), it will be to replace them with new ones, so some damage won’t be the end of the world.

All in all I’m very happy though, and this reissue has certainly sucked me back in.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago with the little red candles and gold bow that are supposed to attach to this part from the 4891 Christmas Market set: the leaf base.  (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-08-5670)  Using a toothpick, I dabbed a little Elmer's glue on the inside of the candles and bow and they stayed on well.  This should work unless a permanent solution is desired.  :)

Saw a post on Instagram that the problem with the flowers is that the hole in the center is too small. They said they reamed it out with a toothpick and the flowers hold fine after that.

And yes, this is a direct consequence of Brexit and everyone having to implement new export and customs procedures.

One of our Spanish-speaking friends at AmClicks (http://amclicks.org/foro/novedades-playmobil/nuevo-catalogo-playmobil-plus-2022/msg89346/#msg89346) discovered that there's a part with stickers for a new Oldtimer!

The description says: Etikett 70937 "Oldtimer 1"

=> Set 70937: this could indicate the oldtimer will be released in a proper PM box!
=> Unless it is a complete new oldtimer, I can only imagine it is a rerelease of set 6349 (but stickered instead of printed and perhaps with different colours):

(https://media.playmobil.com/i/playmobil/6349_product_detail)

The part is available for order, so you can already imagine what I did... I ordered it!

I will let you know when I received it!

My instinct is that if we get the Truck we'll get the car. It's interesting, since they've both been around more recently than the other sets, but in new colours. I'd expect the original colours, but that's not a given.

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't the original mould. The only other option I can imagine is if there was a 'second' car designed when they originally launched the Victorian line which has never been released but they actually made the moulds for. But that seems very unlikely.

I'd expect a proper re-issue (i.e. yellow), and maybe a new one in either black or dark blue (smilar to the Karstadt Truck).

Today I received the stickers for set 70937! I will upload a picture later today!

What I can tell you already: the stickers are definitely made for a new version of the oldtimer truck since the leaflet is comparable with the one of the Roncalli truck (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-82-8704).

The colours are beautiful! Brown/gold text and symbols on a beige background. This indicates the truck will come in a new colour! The text says “PM CARGO”.

With this news I assume the 70938 will be a revival of the oldtimer car and presumably also in a new colour!

I’m very curious to which klickies they will add!

Until last week you could order the sticker sheet for 0,60 euro, but it seems they removed the option:

I assume it's their marketing, to convince people to buy the big house. People that are doubting to buy the house(s) at the moment, could be persuaded now more easily. You're very lucky to have that 20% discount now! I want to buy some rooms twice and the small house, but I'm going to wait until we have a promotion in Belgium.

I think what bml is suggesting is that the two sets we know are coming are one car and one truck (since there is no set number for the truck yet, but we know it's coming because of the stickers they ordered) - which makes more sense them issuing two cars.

Great, murder clowns, just what we needed. Also, I just noticed that they renumbered and brought back two princess sets from the early '90s, 9889 and 9890 (formerly 3020 and 3032). This might be old news.

Just in case anyone missed it, the large Victorian mansion became available last night in the US. I got mine ordered. :) Still no sign of the "Baby's Room" and "Children's Room" sets yet. There's a couple more that haven't even been posted on the US site yet, including the patio set and the small house. I hope we get those also.

Edit: I should also note that it's 25% off in the US right now, so I got mine for under $150. <*)

I didn't get an alert either. They must not be working. I have the page bookmarked and I've just reloaded it constantly, checking to see if the sets are available. I ordered mine within an hour of them posting it.

I found confirmation that the Victorian automobiles will be coming in July as sets 70937 and 70938.

This site also has the patio set and the small house, which aren't available on playmobil.us. They aren't available on this site yet either. We'll see what happens.

Thank you for the detective work! Same price... does that mean it's the same car, or the truck and the car at the same price?

Hope they have different colors - BLACK car is SOOO obvious (like a grey wizard)...

Yes!

Lovely klickies as well!

Thanks for the pics!

The new figures are nice. I'm curious about the thinking that led to some sets being re-released unaltered and some being changed up, but I'm not complaining! Well, except about spending money and not having any space  :lol: :lol:

The truck is a bit different than the old green one: https://playmodb.org/setpics/5/5640.jpg I would have liked the hat from the original driver.
It might just be the photo, but the seats of the old car were redder.

I'm curious too. I totally understand recoloring the bedroom, but the vehicles have more nuanced changes - notably new klickies. I would have liked a non-pink bathroom - mainly because I have one bathroom for two houses, but I don't particularly want a duplicate.

Yes, odd.. The wheel.. things in the truck are also different - one has to wonder..

Actually looking at it. there's quite a few minor differences between the trucks (which is annoying because I have a very broken one somewhere which now probably can't be fixed using spare parts!)

Is it historical/accurate to have different colors of plaster between the timbers? There are red and green PM ones but I can't recall any real life examples of that - but also I haven't seen a lot of pictures of that type of building so I don't know.

Also why does the bakery have stone on one end and the timber/plaster on the other? Is that a normal style?

I've always assumed the stone wall was there because it would be fireproof, useful in a bakery. The smithies (3442 and 6329) also have this arrangement.

I understand it was, sometimes solid colour and sometimes coloured low relief plaster carvings.

Belief it or not, but the pristine white marble statues from Greek and Roman times were themselves really brightly painted.

I believe that historically Germany (and Europe in general) used coloured paints for the plaster panels. It's certainly reasonably common in modern Germany (and you even see painted timber on some houses) - I think I read somewhere that the 'black-and-white' house is actually a 19th century invention, but that might be the black of the wood rather than the white-washed panals.

I'm very excited about the Victorian Car & Truck and thanks for all the wonderful pictures. I would love it if they reissued the railings and gates. Then you can make a garden with trees and flowers round the house, and a street scene the other side.  :) xx

Yes, the fence! Aside from the FAO set, the fencing I have is that light yellow from the later house. I would love to swap it out for beige. As it is, it's not different enough from the house color to be complementary; it just doesn't match. A fence set is the sort of thing people would buy in multiples, so it makes sense as a re-release.

I would like to order the fireplace from the spare parts service, but the instructions still haven’t been released… or is that to prevent us from ordering spare parts  ???

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the UK site has cut the prices for these across the board (Large House is now £126) - this might mean it's excluded from the generic price cuts they do.

The Victorian theme now comes under Playmobil Plus (what used to be Direct Service) and is described as Nostalgic Dolhouse so presumably is excluded from price cuts relating to the main catalogue but can be and has been included in price cuts on Playmobil Plus.

Normally - as far as I've noticed - they've not differentiated between the main catalogue and DS/Playmobil Plus sets for the 'everything 20% off' sale. But they do exclude certain sets from it - for example the Greek Gods - so I half expected these sets to be excluded, but up until now they haven't been.

A good price, but with a number of trucks already in various liveries and one car and most of another, I only really need spare parts, if they are going to be available.
