9241+9242 Figures 12
Review at playkingdoms: Figures 12 (direct link) (http://www.playkingdoms.com/pk2/library/figures/figs12/s12.aspx)
We got a box with not a single gueisha :( And a few missing parts.
On the plus side, the printing is really good. They said there were no changes in the printing system, which is baffling. :hmm:
The highlight is of course the golden Statue Of Liberty. BY THE GODS.
(unfortunately, and not even the gods probably know why, she has high heels :wall: )
Let me know if I missed anything!
Kept ones later, when we make up our minds ::)

Wow, these are out already? 8} Thanks for posting. It's always nice to be able to see detailed photos. I'm not sure I will get this series. I only really want three of them, but it's such a pain to track down the ones I want.
This is the first time I noticed the Statue of Liberty has shoes. I was hoping she could be worked into Midas' daughter, but not with high heels!
In the grand scheme of things, I don't mind having a repeat series because these are made for children and they probably haven't bought all the mystery figures and because my wallet likes a break now and again.

A few weeks ago, yes..

Which ones?

Yes, I was very disappointed. We will use flat shoes instead of those stupid heels, but still. Bare feet would be a whole LOT better.

I think it's lame. And lazy. Very very lazy.

And more accurate. The real statue is wearing sandals and her toes are bare.

I had no idea these were even announced yet! ???
Shame there's such a huge amount of duplicates from previous series. I guess I'll be doing the feel the bag method rather than buying a set. :(
Thanks for your comprehensive review, as always!

Which ones?
Statue of Liberty, trumpet player, and the blue pirate lady. I wouldn't mind the wizard, the hoop skirt lady (just for the added accessories), the ninja ('cause it seems strange to have just one ninja), and the Native American lady. Not really enough to justify the whole series. The duplicates are ones my niece already has (I tend to give her the modern klickies that don't interest me).

thanks for sharing these pictures Tahra!
.....happy to see that they do bother to print the back of the male chef
....and perhaps I might be able to order a pair of the wizard's long baggy sleeves ;D
....but still wondering when they are ever going to print the back of trousers, like those of the female chef?
...at least this time, the Geisha comes with a new printed fan(not easy to print on those wavy surfaces)
but the backs of the geisha are unprinted again....isn't there some standardized practices??
maybe I should try ordering those short frilly sleeves from the female pirate ;)
-
Thanks Tahra. I will need to get the co-op thread for the US started. I think I may be able to go with fewer cases this time around.

Maybe... I'll still need 2
-
Yeah, Tim, I'm going to pass this time around, but still appreciate that you offer to do this for us!

I didn't notice sandals when I checked :-[

I need a recount, but the statue I don't have in mount 3 for sure... Of course, it's probably better to get them on your side of the pond, right?
We like the big skirted woman's hat and umbrella too :)
There are plenty of ninjas - in sets, add ons... And the indian is the same from the egg :wall: (nice brownish parts though :) )

It would be nice if we could order those, yes .... ah, wait, you wanna give them your FOREIGN MONEY!? Forget it. ::)

Perhaps. Everyone will be after the same ones... And.. Where in HADES is the highlander?!

Yeah, I really think since they did just one series last year they were only planning on one this year but then some of their merchants wanted more so they went ahead and decided to do another one with no planning time to do it right. So we ended up with this. they would have been better to have used the PCC and run a quick poll on what people would like to see again and just done that. Hopefully they will reduce the production number on this series, or else they are liable to have a bunch left at the end to sell off cheap.

You think twelve different Don Quixotes* and twelve different Frida Kahlos would be an improvement? ;D
* - Dons Quixote?

Great review, as always, tahra. I'm most looking forward to getting the new wizard robes, hat, and gold staff. You got some nice extras!

Probably. I'll wait a bit for them to start showing up in stores. Liberty might be a hard one to track down.

I don't understand the problem. Who here can't come up with one or two series in.. say.. 30 minutes? A couple of hours?
It's lame, and lazy. And weird. At the very least, different colors, and everyone would be happy... mostly :P
I really do wonder WHO approves these. And WHY!?
And I don't think it takes a big poll or a study for the highlander... Or it's just me?
Two series a year it far too much and too fast :( As my poor wallet testifies.

:wall: Don't forget Sherlock! :wall:

Didn't the gold staff exist before? I thought so, therefore I made no remark on it (I don't much like the sculpt)
Still waiting for a GREY wizard ::)
Liberty might be a hard one to track down.
If I find that one cheap, they are MINE! :P
The mummies were soooooooooooooo happy!

Maybe it was a production problem, rather than an idea one. It does seem a bit like they just had spares of certain klickies hanging about.
:wall: Don't forget Sherlock! :wall:
Don't diss Sherlock. I still don't have one! The US site never got him in stock. >:(

GAH. But they did rather well with the statue, the pirate woman and the male wizard in different colors (except for the mess with the statues feet).. so.. why not go that way?

Really? Still here, and marked as "new".. but again, don't know if it's very efficient to send for him from across the pond.. (when I eventually do an order - been delaying and delaying, and now with the dragons..)

I'd love to see the highlander again but with a different tartan and flesh coloured legs.
I'd also like to see a random figure ghostified, or stonified or goldified. Yes, I did make those words up but I'm sure you know what I mean. :P

Well, yes. Not barefoot though - naked legs with boots.. Uhm.. Not sure that'd work too well :-\

YES! All for weird skin colors!

Maybe it was a production problem,
if it is they should switch the work of those development staff....I see them making more than 1 special one-time-use parts for a new fi?ure when they could easily reuse existing moulds or just use another 'standard' colour instead of brand new shade which I'm sure adds to stocking and recording 'problems'....look at some of the past fi?ures
-
Even if they wanted to use all existing parts for the figures we could easily come up with lots of interesting new variations and color combos. Even just old figures out of long retired themes we would like to see again.
-

I don't believe so. There was a black one with the green wizard in Series 4 (the best coloured one available so far, I'd say), a pink one in Set 9136, and the ubiquitous silver one. I don't think it's the greatest piece either, but it's nice that the orb can be changed easily.
Still waiting for a GREY wizard ::)
White and grey wizard hats would be great. So far there are turquoise, dark blue, black, and this new blue one. perhaps you could try to make a dark wizard with the black one? I've made one using that. :D

Yeah, not sure they have that level of organization

They could do a classic kilt outfit with the long socks.
I would love to see more famous statues as klickies - Joan of Arc in gold (she's needs a gold horse though), the Little Mermaid in copper, Abe Lincoln in white, Nelson in grey, Gengis Khan in silver (with horse), Marcus Aurelius in light green (also with horse)...
-
Finally I klicked the kept ones...
I know, I am slow :-[
