Title: The 14 Victorian Customized Sets of Playmovictorian in pictures
Post by: playmovictorian on April 05, 2009, 11:56:34
Hi Guys

Now that I have mastered the art - a difficult one - to post / attach pictures to a topic, I would like to share with you my work and creations until now...

I have so far created 14 different sets all using the Victorian Playmobil sets and adding here and there carefully chosen 1/12th accessories to compliment / enhance the Victorian Theme and never overshadow the existing sets which are so crafted and beautiful as they are.

With the Victorian Social Calendar in mind, I had a tremendous fun adding little presentations on various themes from high tea to a musical evening, and so on.

I hope that you will enjoy these pictures...

Karim ;)

Preparing a Feast for Dinner at the Victorian Mansion...

Only a few hours left until our Guests start to arrive and there is still so much to do in the Kitchen.

While the Cook is busy with her pots and pans, another one is preparing Cherry Bakewells, the Maid is loading a Trolley with Orange Pate and platters of Baked Potatoes and Vegetables, a little Boy is helping too with the cooking.

The Kitchen Table is loaded with a Studded Ham on a Silver Platter, yummy Strawberries in a Glass Bowl, and good enough to eat Pink Strawberry Cake and Cherry & Vanilla Ice Cream for Desserts.

Easter is coming early this year at the Mansion...

The Cream of Victorian Society is gathering this afternoon in the Green Drawing Room of the Playmobil Victorian Mansion.

Under the majestic Green Swag Curtains, the Ladies are discussing the latest gossip around a cup of Hot Chocolate with whipped Cream served by the stylish Maid, but are soon attracted like Bees to the yummy Heart Shaped Chocolate Cake, and look at that Tray with Homemade Chocolates !!! Are they not to die for ?

In the flickering light of a Large Chandellier, the Lady of the House pampers herself in front of her Dressing Table filled with bottles of perfumes and pots of cosmetics and the Young Lady is being helped by the faithful Maid. It is relaxing time in the cosy Bathroom and soon the Victorian Mansion will go to sleep...

But one can easily imagine what a busy and exciting day tomorrow will bring. New adventures for our Victorian Friends...

A Carriage without Horses ???

Excitement can be felt all around the Mansion today !!!

The Master has bought himself the latest Victorian's novelty : a carriage without horses but with horse power ???

Even the cats are puzzled...

This strange and noisy machine has just been invented by a certain Mr Rolls and Mr Royce ? No doubt this will never be a success...how can a decent Lady ever be seen in such a method of transportation ?!?

A Nightingale at the Mansion...

They say Her Voice can be heard from both sides of the Atlantic...

Hyde Park's Upper Crust is certainly enjoying her Singing tonight and the Mansion's Ball Room is like a who's who of Victorian Society : the Vanderbilts, Astors, Rockefellers and Rothschilds are all gathering here to celebrate the brightest Star of the Era...Maria Malibran !!!

The Opera Diva also called the Nightingale has just crossed the Ocean on the latest Cunard Steamer for the occasion before she starts her Grand European Tour and our Hosts have really excelled themselves tonight !!!

This will be front page material for the Distinguished Readers of the Delineator in London, La Gazette du Bon Ton in Paris and Cosmopolitan in New York, another success for the Lady of the House !!!

Easter Sunday at the Mansion

There is excitement in the air today as Easter Sunday High Tea at the Mansion marks the opening of the Victorian Social Calendar.

Springtime in England not only dresses parks and gardens with soft shades of pinks, blues and greens but also the Ball Room of the Mansion specially decorated for the occasion.

The Upper Crust of Victorian Society is gathering here in Hyde Park this afternoon to discuss the latest gossip over a cup of tea. While distinguished Gentlemen are admiring the fine English landscape painting, Ladies dressed in the latest fashion are undulging in a selection of cakes to die for.

Large bouquets of flowers are filling the air with a sweet lilac fragrance, the silver tea set is polished to perfection and the best china is on the table with matching napkins under a shiny brass chandelier.

A bust of our beloved Queen Victoria presides over this jolly Assembly and the Maid is as always perfectly efficient and stylish.

Easter Sunday High Tea at the Mansion will surely be featured in the next issue of the Delineator and the Strand...yet another success for the Lady of the Mansion.

Hi Little Jo

Yes my mischevious cat certainly gets around inspecting everything and gives me his final seal of approval and I always trust his sound judgement...

I remember once redoing all the pictures of a set because he was not in it !!!

But do not think for a moment that I am a perfectionist....not at all, but my cat is !!! LOL

Pampering Time at the Mansion ( May 2009 )

What a wonderful day this has been !!!

The Young Master's birthday is tomorrow and his Grandmother has taken him to the most famous toy shop of the Victorian era : Hamley's on Regent St.

What fun it was to run from teddy bears to toy soldiers and miniature trains, especially when Gran'ma is playing along !!!

After a well deserved cup of tea and cream cakes at the Ritz, it is time to head back to the Mansion where the faithful Maid will put the many bags of presents away until tomorrow.

The Mansion bathroom's features all the novelties including a bath tub and hot water and after such a busy day it is so nice to pamper ourselves in luxury.

No doubt the Young Master will find it hard to sleep tonight as after all, the birthday party will have all his friends gathering at the Mansion and all these new toys to play with. But he will just have to wait...until tomorrow...

Summer has arrived at the Mansion ( May 2009 )

Since the first ice cream factory was created a few decades ago in Baltimore USA, ice cream has been the delight of Victorian Society ever since

That is until a certain Reverend John Scott in New York City decided to serve a strange dessert to his Crowd after the Sunday service : he simply called it Ice Cream Sundae.

Needless to say that it only took a first class crossing on the latest Cunard Steamer to bring the novelty to London and this afternoon in Hyde Park, the Astors, Rothschilds and Rockefellers all dressed in the latest fashion with matching jewelled feathered fans are all gathering under the pale green silk swag curtains of the Summer Room to indulge in the most scrumptious selection of ice creams ever seen.

Such an event will surely be featured in the next issue of the Delineator in London, Cosmopolitan in New York and La Gazette du Bon Ton in Paris.

Another success for the Lady of the House !!!

A perfect Sunday in the Cotswolds ( May 2009 )

Where has the Cream of Victorian Society disappeared to on this glorious Sunday afternoon ?

Hyde Park is surprisingly quiet and even the Tea Lounge at the Ritz is deserted...

The answer to this puzzling mystery can be found leaving Victoria Station every Sunday afternoon at precisely 1.30pm : the Cotswolds Express.

Hyde Park's Upper Crust is flocking like birds to a tiny and very picturesque village called Broadway in the Heart of England.

The Cotswolds rolling hills, lovely thatched cottages, scented gardens, stone bridges also attract aspiring Painters on a Sunday like this.

An Artist is at work at the Honeysuckle Windmill today while our fashionable Victorian Friends are indulging in ice creams and cakes to die for while discussing the latest Transatlantic gossip after an afternoon of picking flowers and full baskets of juicy cherries...I think his name is a certain Auguste Renoir ? No doubt he has some talent, but certainly not enough to make his name into History...

Hello Playmofriends

Could you believe it?

I am finally hard at work planning my new Dioramas  :yup:!!

They will be on the Autumn/Winter theme   and I am currently busy carefully selecting the accessories and the fabric for the swag curtains - silk brocades - which my Friend Vanessa will create to the exact measures of the Playmo Mansion windows.

I have been really inspired by the photographic work of Tim, Bill, Rasputin and other Playmofriends and I will try new angles thanks to them  :wow: :wow:.

Lighting will be paramount to me as I wish to recreate that particular glow that goes with the season and I must say that after Emma's amazing and so incredibly creative dioramas, one can only be humble when it comes to creating new ones  :-[

A thing is sure, my happy little Victorians are on their way to new exciting adventures with that special High Society flavour that should put a smile on your face !!!

For those, those who are interested in the 1/12th scale, here is a link to a unique online shop who offers not only the best silk brocades but also with a design and pattern specialy created for the 1/12th scale world :

www.thesilkroute.co.uk

And for those who asked myself and Emma about these amazing food items on the 1.12th scale here is the video of reference of pure dream when it comes to turning Polymer Clay into mini works of Art :

I will keep you posted with my progress...

Hi Playmofriends

I have made my first Playmobil purchase in 4 months  ;D !!!

Mainly items related to a Winter scene such as sleighs, kids in winter outfits, etc.

I am planning 2 dioramas to start with : one autumn kitchen with cooks busy making pumkpin pies and autumn fruits jams and a winter scene with my elegant little Victorians arriving in sleighs to a Hyde Park Christmas party.

The dioramas will include working chandelliers for that special magical touch and atmosphere that I wish to give.

The snow is very difficult to reproduce and I will not go down the cotton road as too thick and looks very much as if I had sprayed shaving cream / whipped cream all around the Mansion...

Here is the picture of my very first purchase in 4 months  :

Hi Playmofriends

Excitement is in the air today as I am half the way through planning all the details of my new dioramas over a cup of coffee...

I am excited for many reasons, the first one being that I am finally introducing the Electricity Fairy to the Mansion which should bring that little extra sparkle and the second that I have worked out an alternative to the unreachable Park Fence - a stone gate with frost hedges on each sides and stone pillars in between the hedges...

I will work out the final details as I go along the way but my aim is to create dioramas that have an old fashioned charm and the photography and lighting will be paramount.

If its ok with you, I will take you along the different stages of the making of these dioramas and I will post pictures accordingly :yup:.

Hi Playmofriends

Needless to say that my Paypal / Ebay account is piping hot with purchases but what can I say ? I did not buy anything whatsoever in 4 months !!! That alone could have had me expelled from PF  !!!

This is my very last purchase for the day...but how could the Victorian Collector that I am possibly resist this little beauty :

Bonjour Playmofriends

First and foremost, I would like to say how happy I am that our Friend Gepetto  is back amongst us as I have missed him a lot !!!

His encouraging words and comments have meant a lot to me and other Playmofriends so here is to Gep - I am enjoying a glass of Shiraz at 01.00am  :-[ !!!

Now, my Friends, I went to B&Q today and had a piece of plywood cut for me to the following dimensions : 100cm large x 150cm long which I have put in the living room and one of my mansions proudly stands on it.

Those who remember my comments a bout a project involving a busy Victorian St - which got postponed until now - will be happy to know that I am working on landscaping as well as rooms dioramas and the result should be interesting :yup:...

I have one chair on each sides of the "table" : one to access the inside and one for the outside .

Needless to say that I am so much looking forward to the week-end to start putting things into perspective and the Mansion of its "land" already looks somewhat different...

More to come soon

Karim ;)

Hi Playmofriends

The first parcels arrived today and I cannot wait for Friday evening to finally immerse myself in this new diorama...

As I said before, my greatest concern is to render both seasons as well as possible - Autumn kitchen scene + Winter Christmas park / mansion scene - and I am thinking of covering existing playmo trees with Autumn colored "reindeer moss" imported from Norway.

The model moss is familiar to me as I used a lot of it when I was much younger building a model railway with landscape but finding it in an orange colour was very difficult...until now...

(http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/2140/reindeermoss.jpg) (http://img179.imageshack.us/i/reindeermoss.jpg/)

The "snow" has not arrived yet and will consist of realistic adhesive sheets for the grounds and a sprinkle version to add that special frosty touch to the scenery...

PS : my shopping is mostly done and I am very pleased that it costed a little bit more than the Park Fence at its current value on Ebay. I was not prepared to put that much money in one single item alone as it is outrageously overpriced :yup:

Well Karim that is quite the portfolio! I have been busy making my own little album of your creations (I sure do like that windmill diorama) to peruse in my quiet time.

Congratulations on your scoring that old truck! I have tried several times to get one but they usually get out of reach so quickly it seems hopeless, good to know that it is still possible (4 months with no purchases, such self-control).

I thank you for your kind words and wish to thank you for bringing us along on your journey to create another of your fabulous set pieces, I really like the looks of your stone gate and fountain and will anxiously await your next installment.

Dear Gepetto

As always, you have made my day  ;)!!!

It is 00.45 and I just came back from work, poured myself a glass of wine and I am just about to open a few parcels from my latest Ebay shopping spree delivered today...

During my lunchbreak, I just could not resist ordering the Oldtimer 4083 Karstadt on Ebay.de ( Germany ) where I purchase most of my Victorian stuff as it is not only much cheaper than anywhere else and one can also find rarities at time.

I know the Oldtimer 4083 is not one of them and its price never exceeds 45.00 pounds, but it is a nice addition to my collection and it was on offer at 29.90 Euros with 8.50 shipping to the UK  :o!!! How could I possibly resist  :yup:?

By the way Gepetto, this item is still very affordable there and although I know this is not the original Oldtimer Truck, it is still a nice one and I would be delighted to purchase one and have it sent to you as I know that Ebay.com ( USA ) is so overpriced when it comes to the Victorian Theme.

Here is my new baby which will proudly give the change to the other Oldtimer Truck in my busy Victorian Christmas Street scene...

(http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/9985/4083s.jpg) (http://img9.imageshack.us/i/4083s.jpg/)

This item was released to celebrate Germany's oldest and most famous Department Store "Rudolph Karstadt in Berlin"

(http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/9049/dideldumclipimage002000.jpg) (http://img43.imageshack.us/i/dideldumclipimage002000.jpg/)

(http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1968/karstadt22.jpg) (http://img200.imageshack.us/i/karstadt22.jpg/)

(http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/7092/450px1.jpg) (http://img199.imageshack.us/i/450px1.jpg/)

It all began in the Mecklenburg city of Wismar. On 14 May 1881, the trained retail dealer Rudolph Karstadt opened his first shop. The "Clothing manufacture and retail shop Karstadt" consisted only of a truck load of products and the entrepreneurial courage of its founder. At that time Rudolph Karstadt had no idea that he was laying the foundation for the probably most successful career in German retail.

The young entrepreneur pursued a business model which was revolutionary for its time. Instead of the then common act of bargaining, Rudolph Karstadt introduced fixed but low prices and cash payment. This enabled him to make precise calculations. With the help of these guaranteed steady revenues the shrewd businessman from a Hanseatic town managed to get attractive purchasing terms from his suppliers. Only three years later Karstadt could open its first branch in Lübeck.

Thank you Karim, that is a very generous offer but I think for now I need to be careful of 'crossing themes', the Egyptians have just arrived and I have an army to build (albeit a small one) if I should advance to a 'Lawrence of Arabia' theme I may change my mind!

Thanks again.

Hi Karim, :wow:
so sorry only just found this tread. I very jealous of the oldtimer truck definitely a bargin, sorry I missed it. I did see one for sale the other day but it had a broken front wing and as I cant fix these things myself I didn't bother bidding.

I love the house gates they look really good. Are you thinking of selling the lot, house, street, truck together in one go?
I'll also have to have a look for the advent calendar as I'd like the Christmas organ.

Have you thought of a solution to the snow problem? ??? Did you want some thing permanent or just temporary? You can gets sheets of filter wool that's a bit stiffer than cotton wool which might look good as a snow floor. It can be pulled apart into thin layers, and you can cut holes in it and it will keep it's shape.

I'm looking forward to seeing your sets, Em.

Bonjour Emma

Always a pleasure catching up with a fellow Victorian Theme Lover !!!

Once again, I would like to say how much I have admired your incredible production of exquisite dioramas this summer and for me, your Victorian Kitchen is nothing short of a mini masterpiece. I have Miniaturist Friends in the US who were equally lost for words in view of such creativity and eye for detail. Second best would be your Emporium and should I have your talent, I would customize my Karstadt Oldtimer Truck to the colors of Harrods or Fortnum & Mason but I know I will never achieve such a stunning result :'(.

For someone with an eye for details, my dioramas are instantly recognizable and so are yours :yup:. My aim is to create a poetic and old World flavored diorama by using the finest 1/12th accessories available and my new dioramas should be very special indeed.

I am creating them first and foremost for myself, for my Playmofriends and beyond - as I am ultimately in a Playmo community and playing the Librarian is fun but not what is expected of me - I would like to thank Sylvia, Bill, Rasputin, Martin and Gepetto for tolerating my exhuberant personality and postings with good humour and spirits :wow: :wow: - ie PlaymoChef

I will list the room dioramas - kitchen & Great Ball Room - but all the external features and vehicles will remain as I intend to create on the same foundations a few lovely Springtime dioramas next year using the same display, just with a another feel, which will create a continuity in the Theme and will allow people to see the Mansion evolving throughout the seasons - that's the plan :yup:.

Many thanks for your suggestion for the snow effect !!! Should my adhesive snow sheets and sprinkle not work out, I will give it a try ...

From tomorrow evening onwards, I will finally get a chance to sit down and "get cracking" with these dioramas that are already captivating my imagination and I just cannot wait for the Fairy Electricity to shine through  :yup: :yup: :yup:!!!

So catch up on Friday evening...

Karim ;)

that was so much fun to watch the work of the electricity fairy.  i loved the celebration at the end, but my favorite scene is all of the neighbors peeking in through the windows to see what is happening.
nice.  that must take hours to set up.  where do you find so much time.

Thank you Kaethe, Gepetto & Klickus !!!

This new project involves the challenge of presenting two dioramas in one with a Winter perspective towards the Conservatory and an Autumn perspective towards the kitchen.

The house is also quite big with 72cm long x 29cm wide x 76cm high and altough the board is not small with its 100cm x 150cm, I fully realize the magnitude of projects such as  "80 days around the World" from McGayver & Razpunzel  :wow: :wow:.

As promised, I will take you through the making of these dioramas and the materials used to achieve certain effects. In order to make it more fun and lively, I will take a picture of the material alone first, and then a second picture involving Playmo figures "in situ" :

Pedestrian Brick Sidewalk / Pavement :

Vehicles Main Road / Street :

Mansion surrounding stones pavements ( outside kitchen, etc ):

Karim , First off thank you so much for sharing . I am always in amazement as to how beautiful and creative your screens are . The amount of time some of the little setups i do lets me understand what you might have to go through to put together such elaborate displays . There is always a sense of such activity in the way you put them together . I can hardly keep up with all the work you do and am so glad you became a member  :wow:.

Thank you Rasputin & Gepetto

These encouraging comments really mean a lot to me !!!

Gepetto : the Cotswold Rubblestone Irregular Pavement is produced by Richard Stacey - Product Code 9008 - Model Finishing Paper in 1/12th scale.

It is 06.00am and still dark outside but the Electricity Fairy left my Victorian House illuminated - well, the groundfloor rooms as my budget did not extend to the upper floors  :-[ so we should see the Electricity Fairies again Gep  - and it is quite a magical sight :yup:

I will continue the review of some of the materials involved in the creation of the diorama this afternoon...
