4140 compact set - paddling pool
« on: January 19, 2008, 12:11:23 »
A very nice addition to the "modern living" theme is this new compact set. While dad is busy with the BBQ mom and the kids a relaxing in the sun and splashing around in the paddling pool. -- Not very sophisticated but anyway worth to mention here.

So first the typical box views.

And here the details worth to mention (from my point of view  ;))

The seal toy is really lovely (@ Heather and Tim: 30 28 4420  ;)) and also could go for a new born seal baby (maybe with a little bit repainting). So the seal is the first animal which also offers three age-stages like Playmobil figures itself (adult, child, baby).

Both toys -- the animal and the ship -- are floatable. He upside-down-view shows why: there are some "air chambers" so that together with the surface tension the items float.

There is a book included showing the very first special. Interesting the language mixture on the spine "Detektiv" (German) and "Stories" (English) -- I would have expected "Detective Stories" or "Detektiv-Geschichten"; maybe a compromise to the international market.

Thank you for the review, Jochen.  A nice little set and interesting details in it, especially the book which is surely the first one in PM with a detailed printed jacket.  Please would you post the part number for it?

Thanks Jochen
It's an interesting set. The book cover reminds me of what they have done with the video game cartridges from some of the Christmas sets. It looks like a standard size book, and the cover is a decal, so really it would be the decal sheet that you would want a number for. Great idea, can't wait to collect the whole series. It would be really cool if they did decals for every Special. Hmmm a scan of the decal sheet to get the size and I'm sure some enterprising collector will be able to come up with covers for lots of books.

Thanks, Jochen ...

It appears that Zirndorf is attempting to imitate your wonderful Playmobil miniature boxes, books and accessories ... ;)

All the best,
Richard

Yes, actually it's the red book together with a stick (30 88 7802).

It would be really cool if they did decals for every Special.

Hm, I don't think that they relate to the special but just using the special as an illustration for a Sherlok Holmes detective story (cf. the cover) ... except you mean the creation of a story around each special.

Hmmm a scan of the decal sheet to get the size and I'm sure some enterprising collector will be able to come up with covers for lots of books.

You mean like this? (cf. attachment)  ;)

Thanks for the review and all the close-up photos! :D

I'd been wanting to get a proper look at this set since it was first announced.

The details are really cute, especially the floating toys.
