Thanks, Andi ...

Hmmm ... As Graf George said over at the Playmo-portal, " To all critics of SystemX, this would not have been possible with Steck-System."

As a long time critic of SystemX and a continuing champion of the old Steck System ... It would appear that once again I have been shown how wrong I am ... ;)

The "Mississipppi steamboat" is absolutely BEAUTIFUL !!!

Thanks again for the link, Andi !!!

All the best,
Richard

Are my eyes playing tricks ... Or, is that really the Lone Ranger on the second deck aft (by the open door) ???

Wonderful!! What an imagination to build this from Fairytale-castle and Citylife-parts!  8-) :wow:

Amazing, just amazing!

The most original and imaginative use of System X parts I have ever seen. Bravo!

Yes, pretty cool and well done with all these details (have a look at the bridge ... he really used only PM parts). Just giving it another color it would be perfect.

It could be. The figure looks like he has a black mask over his eyes, in any case. :)
It would be nice to see some close-ups of the people on the boat. Many of them are busy in some kind of activity. 8-)

It is VERY impressive.
The person did a wonderful job.
Perhaps this should be shown to PM to have them realize that they could produce a mississipi steamer, now.

Although I dont think the mississippi has gators.

ABSOLUTELY !!!

Although I dont think the mississippi has gators.

Hello, Meg ...

Well, it depends on which end of the Mississippi River that you're talking about. If you're talking about the Louisiana end, you can bet your bippie that there's alligators !!! As you swing past the Baton Rouge bend on your way to New Orleans, you'll see a passle of gators swimming by ... :)

In fact the American alligator's full name is: Alligator mississippiensis (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/cnhc/csp_amis.htm).

However, you're spot on about Playmobil no longer having ANY excuse regarding whether or not they're able to produce a Mississippi Steamboat !!!

All the best,
Richard

Surely not - the Lone Ranger was a "goodie" and so wore a white hat!

It is an outstanding creation and shows what can be done with System-X in a field it wasn't even intended for.  How, too, someone thinks laterally like that is beyond me to understand.

You are absolutely correct, Gordon !!! What in the world could I have been thinking? ...  :-[

Not only does he NOT have a white hat, but he is missing his faithful companion! ... ;)

Thanks for clearing that up ... :)

All the best,
Richard

I have never been to Louisianna.
Some day, Maybe.

I knew of Florida Gotors, but not of those who live in the Mississippi.
I guess I wont be swimming in those waters very soon.

The Florida Gators (http://www.gatorzone.com/) all live in Gainesville, Florida ...

Louisiana ? Hmmm ... It's different ...  ::)

As you know. Meg, the Mississippi River is very special to the history of the United States. It starts way up there by you (in fact the St. Croix River comes from Wisconsin and empties into the Mississippi). It then travels south to New Orleans, Louisiana (but it's still another 100 miles plus before it finally ends in the Gulf of Mexico). It has been said that if a drop of water were to begin the journey from Lake Itasca (at the Minnesota headwaters of the Mississippi) it would take more than three months to find its way to the Gulf of Mexico.

The old Mississippi Steamboats moved people, cargo and goods up and down the length of this great river. They were the subject of songs and stories. Some of the most famous were written by Mark Twain.

It would be quite fitting for Playmobil to commemorate this very interesting period of history with the release of a Playmobil Mississippi River Steamboat !!!

All the best,
Richard

Now that would be an interesting Klicky ... :)

Looking at the Mississippi Steamboat reminded me of another beautiful construction using SystemX. Do y'all remember the fantastic Chateau de Loire en Miniature (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=562.0) that Michael (mi-chi) created back in February of this year?

SystemX (in the right hands) seems to have a lot of possibilities.

All the best,
Richard

I grew up in Rochester NY
My parents helped out a great deal with my college education.
With their help, certain restrictions were applied, too.

I couldnt go west of the Mississippi.
I didnt realise I might have been able to split hairs and go to the Univ of Minnesota (the Mississippi splits the campus) but Dad was happy enough with the Univ of Wis.
Bakc then (and still today) it was cheap compared to several other schools I was looking at.

The St Croix is a beautiful river.
I dont know how river navigators ccould have split the misssissippi vs st croix.
But I do know that the Mississippi is a large reason why the west was settled the way that it was.
And I am ever grateful for the Mississippi and Missouri producing such a fine writer as Mark Twain.

What a brilliant creation. Maybe Playmobil will take the hint now and give us a Paddle Steamer.

When I was in the Navy I sailed down the Mississippi and it certainly is muddy.

Not too sure about the Lone Ranger but it certainly looks like Muff Potter and Injun Joe upto no good in the Cannoe.

We cannot less than firmly agree with Richard that the Mississippian paddlewheel should be done by Playmobil!! (I asked Playmobil for a paddlewheel and an USS Monitor).

Well, but as the immoral bellicist I am, I surely will transform it in a confederate battleship, hehe, with some cannons aboard. Or at least, a Confederate troop transport.

Where there paddlewheels in times of the Civil war???

hi richard
the colorado queen i suspect might be more of a working boat with a few passengers aboard to bring extra money to buy liquor to keep the crew content and working.  the sandra belle, seems a bit more classy, with what appears to be private rooms, that's why i was wondering what sort of activities were going on inside.  thanks for the view of the colorado queen.

You are correct, Kaethe ...

There are TWO major Colorado Rivers in the United States. One flows through Texas to the Gulf of Mexico (894 miles) and the other flows from Colorado to the Gulf of California (1450 miles).

The Colorado Queen was a working boat that was berthed in Colorado.

Before the dams were built, you could travel from western Colorado, through southeast Utah, western Arizona (along the Nevada and California borders), through the Grand Canyon, into Mexico and finally to the Gulf of California (Pacific Ocean).

It was probably a much more exciting trip than a steamboat ride down the lazy Mississippi ... ;)

All the best,
Richard

Or at least, not for very long...

Fantastic customisation! The bustle and industry going on aboard brings the whole thing alove, but the bare ship would still stagger me.

I can see how, given a particular theme you want to build, you can go a long way with existing sets and parts, but you've got to be pretty familiar with the choices available, and have the $$$ to invest. I shudder to think what all this would have cost in the UK if one was building from scratch.

The custom steamboat is fantastic.

I think System X is not bad--I just don't have enough of it to do anything interesting, whereas I have a lot of steck...

With not too much effort, the Colorado Queen could become a Nile gunboat manned with Victorian sailors and marines......mmmmmmmmm  interesting thought!
