Title: F?gures Ideas
Post by: Ismene on August 18, 2020, 09:47:23
Because Playmobil is apparently running out

lady in grey big skirt dress (like Victorian half-mourning)
dark-skinned bride and groom
pregnant ancient Greek lady (previously suggested by another forum member)
pregnant lady in formal wear (previously suggested by another forum member)
Scottish step dancer
black swan ballerina
firebird ballerina
male ballet dancer (a prince dancer would work for many ballets)
rat/mouse king from the Nutcracker, with rats and mice of course
cat lady (I mean a lady with a bunch of different cats, not a lady dressed up as a cat)
drummer
a female knight that actually has boobs
clarinet player
Elizabeth I
Beast (from Beauty and the Beast fairy tale)
Ching Shih (a Chinese pirate leader)
college student with laptop, books, backpack
medieval farmer
Florence Nightingale or Mary Seacole (ie. a historical nurse figure)
buddhist monk
kawaii woman with hamster and hamster accessories (Can you tell how much I want hamsters in other colors?)
Mongolian falconer
dark-skinned dad with baby in carrier or stroller
librarian
woman in hanbok
British judge (with the wig)
crafter with sewing machine, yarn, knitting needles
astronomer

Note: Pink plastic will not be needed for any of these!

Add whatever else you can think of.  ;D

-A bit shallow  :-[, but I'd love more darker skinned girls in ballgowns!  I discovered the Forest Princess on klickypedia who was lovely, but I've had no luck acquiring her.
-It'd be great to see an African Native like from 7460! They're beautiful!
-Heck, a female African native would be amazing!
-A better male fairy is another, not like that hodge podge from Series 17 (what on earth was that?!) Maaaaybe a dark skinned male fairy since we've had a few females?
-Dark skinned merman too!  :-[
-HADES since the Greek Mythology section has abandoned him! It would be amazing if he even had a three headed dog, but that might be closure to a Special Plus figure...
-A traditonal Chinese female dancer?
-A werewolf! A REAL one with a wolf head!
-A barbershop singer! With striped suit and everything!
-A Renaissance era woman
-A Renaissance era man
-Old school sailor with bell bottoms!
-A satyr. Just so I could see how Playmobil tackles it
-And a half naked nymph to go along with him!  :P

That's all I have for now. Oh what a pleasure to dream.... :cloud9:

a female knight that actually has boobs

Grrrrreat ideas - Buddhist monk! you could do Japanese, Thai, Chinese etc.! - but on this one I disagree. The idea that medieval female combat armor would have visible breast protrusions is a modern one, invented by the usual suspects. There's zero practical reason to make them on functioning armor.

-It'd be great to see an African Native like from 7460! They're beautiful!
-Heck, a female African native would be amazing!

The red figure in 7640 is a female. Agree, that's one of my favorite sets! Impossible to make now though probably.

Quote
-A Renaissance era man

There's one coming in series 19. Rest of ideas are great!

I suppose comfort wasn't much of a consideration; a wee bit of space up there might help. But isn't the Series 18 knight wearing chainmail, rather than a breastplate (or am I misinterpreting the print - I don't have series 18, so I'm going by photos)? Also, the square hips read as male.
I just want a female chainmail torso - not shapely breastplates.

-A better male fairy is another, not like that hodge podge from Series 17 (what on earth was that?!)

A supervillain with wings?

In any case, great ideas!

They'd just make the overall swell of the chest armor bigger. So the fat torso could be used for a female knight.

Took a close look at the 18 knightette and...that's not chainmail. I don't know what it is, it looks like something they made up at random with no real world correspondence. Her shoulderpiece definitely eliminates the possibility of a bust torso though.

As to busty chainmail, it's most probable that any putative knightette would keep her girls strapped down as much as possible to keep them from flying around during combat. Accentuating the female form is just not a concern when there's killing to be done, despite every hollywood movie. But I suppose PM has signed fully on board with hollywood now, so we'll likely see one eventually.

Not much is going to be flying under chainmail. Playmobil just isn't set up for undergarment structural nuances. Yes, women knights probably wrapped their chest, but sports bras achieve a similar compressed look, as do a number of other undergarments used in different countries during different eras. There just isn't a klicky torso option for squished but still there. In any case, the current knight has more makeup than head protection, so we still need a redo.

I would love to see them use the bear suit painted as a panda as one of the Figures series. Seems like an obvious one.
I agree heartily with the possibility of adding ancient gods that didn't make the main theme here as well.
The unicorn hat from Everdreaerz needs to be done in white with gold mane and horn as well.

Like Annoia, the goddess of kitchen drawers which won't open because of a misplaced utensil within? (As invented by the late Sir Terry Pratchett).

:lmao:

Let's not forget... Pico, the god of roman boots... the guy made a prayer to him in the morning so they wouldn't come off.. (that was the high point of that series Britannia - horrid, but that was amazing!)

I've really wanted Playmobil to come out with a medieval/Renaissance plague doctor for quite some time, and I'm worried that the current situation might put that in bad taste  :-\

I apologize for the double post, but I just wanted to mention that I love the suggestions in this thread. Ismene mentioned a few different ballet/ballerina characters-- how about the White Swan and Black Swan from Swan Lake?

I also love Janilew's suggestion of a traditional barbershop singer character with striped suit and straw hat. I could work him into my Victorian world very nicely indeed!

I feel like the characters from Clue-- Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum--could make nice figures, and could come with their various proposed murder weapons. Though this might be a bit too adult for Playmobil!

I do know people who would snatch up such a figure despite (or because of) the current situation.

Clue would be fun. It would probably require licensing, but it's less adult than some previous klickies (like the executioner).

Clue (the game known as Cluedo outside North America) characters would be great! Despite murderous intents. The Ghostbusters ghosts weren't exactly benign, were they?

I´d like such a Figure too. :uhoh:
So some time ago I made these. Their 'birdnoses' are not as large as the historically were, but I wanted to use unaltered original parts only...

Those are lovely, Hadoque!   Certainly far better than I could have expected using unaltered parts. Do you sell any of your custom figures? I'm sure you could make some good money on those guys alone! I think you might have more than a couple interested buyers here already!  ;D

Ismene, I don't know how I could have forgotten about the executioner! I owned him as a child, and might have been a bit too delighted with him considering he ended the lives of most of my royal court at one point or another  :-[

Children are more morbid than adults realize. I read Sherlock Holmes at an early age, so Clue/Cluedo toys makes perfect sense to me.

I wonder if I have a witch nose somewhere.

Nice to read they´re appreciated.  :)

Do you sell any of your custom figures?

Not as of yet. Usually the customs I make are for my own purposes and so I don´t make (much) multiples, army-building aside.
Also, I live in the country with the EU´s capital, where shipping-rates to send even some dust abroad are rather high.

I would love an Alice in Wonderland theme to organize a tea party

On the same topic, I have seen a few Mary Poppins figures on Instagram with a black outfit and a orange and red striped scarf which I assume is a custom made figure, isn't it ?

I will one day try and recreate the set of Cherry Tree Lane  :cloud9:

I have suggested Alice in Wonderland elsewhere (crucially being out-of-copyright would make it an easy win).

I did also think of Mary Poppins. PL Travers famously hated the movie, but I guess her estate is more interested in the cash more relaxed, since they allowed the sequel, so it might not be totally hopeless

An Alice in Wonderland theme would be absolutely lovely, and could make some really great Playmobil sets  (is there a thread for set ideas?). It's the sort of idea that I think works really well with Playmobil, because it can easily broken up into multiple smaller and larger sets, as well as individual or grouped figures. The Mad Hatter would make an awesome klicky, and "The Mad Hatter's Tea Party" could make a great set concept. I believe Playmobil has made a few different iterations of the "Queen of Hearts"; "Croquet with the Queen of Hearts" could be a cool set concept. I would love to see the Caterpillar, sitting on a mushroom with his hookah! Plus they could easily make the White Rabbit and March Hare now that they have those klickies with creepy rabbit heads.

Alice would be a great theme. Wonder if it's public domain yet.

Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) died in 1898, more than 100 years ago, so the Alice and Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass characters should all be in the public domain. However, Playmobil would have to be careful not to directly reference the character design from the 1951 animated Disney film. I think the "Queen of Hearts" figure (70239) is a good interpretation.

Some other F?gures that might be nice to see:

Playmobil has already done Little Red Riding Hood, The Frog Prince, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Cinderella, so it makes sense for them to continue their fairy tale figures.

It is, and I don't even think there'd be any overlap with Disney (I'm not sure if I've seen the Disney movie, but I don't think there's anything original to it) - and I don't even think the Disney (or any film version) has had a particular impact on the public imagination.

I'd like a revival of the fairy tale sets, though I'd prefer them to be proper sets than Figures (I must admit that thought I was in the Wizard of Oz thread when I mentioned Alice!)

Would love to see the crash test dummy done in silver as an android. And maybe gold as well? ;)

Also the star costume mold from Everdreamerz 3 done in silver and gold as Christmas time costumes.

Female version of the s 19 orc, to use that wonderful head again.

Yes, Wonderland and more fairy tales would be great and should have broad appeal among children and adults.

They did Hansel and Gretal, Snow White and Cinderella (4211, 4212, 4213) all together, and they once did a Litte Red Riding Hood as a Special Figure.

Going to resurrect this thread with an idea for the reuse for the grasshopper/cricket antenna mold.

http://animobil.info/figures/text/5d0863aa-figures-1322.html (http://animobil.info/figures/text/5d0863aa-figures-1322.html)

What about doing the alien head with this antenna hairpiece in silver and grey as an alien? The head mold has been in greens, blue, and yellow over the years. Silver would be an obvious choice. Could also be done in violet or orange or something else unusual.

The Mad Hatter could reuse the scientist's face from Series 4! His hat could be huge with an actual card to peg on! I'd personally love to see the king of hearts using the vintage gnome/kid body, but the dwarf one could work too.

Mail armour on females is best represented by a printed torso using the slimmer female torso or at least a plain metallic torso or that type. Plate armour for females never existed outside fantasy which was designed to appeal to young males and overemphasize that it was a female fighter - that is before they just went with bare midriff, even if the rest of the torso was protected with plate armour.

I think that has great possibilities with not just collectors but people who love the romance behind Scottish history. They need bare legs though, currently both are wearing trousers/stockings of some kind.

Ethnic figures overall would be good. A male and female dressed as Scottish Country dancers, Ballroom dancers, or just a collection of the various ethnic costumes from around the world or even within Europe.

Could not agree more! A small line of ethnic and historical figures for major markets would be a smashing success.
