Title: Online Catalogs Updated
Post by: Tiermann on January 01, 2024, 02:10:19
The 2024 catalogs are online for all the sites I checked, both regular and add-ons/Plus.
The US one is weird because they show some themes in the catalog but have asterisks next to them saying they are not available in the US. So then why include them? Too lazy to take out so many pages??
The not available themes are the newest starter packs, the latest Novelmore, the latest Farm, and the pony farm extension of Horses of Waterfall. Maybe these will become available later in the year with the second half catalog and later release dates, or maybe not.
We do get the first run of Horses of Waterfall as well as some other sets that have been out in Germany a few months and will finally be coming here. All taken with a grain of salt though. Many Plus/add-ons were listed in the catalog last year but never arrived in the US at all with others severely limited in availability.
The US does not get the city service sets or the racing sets available elsewhere. We also do not get a listing for the shopping mall sets. Still no Citroen.
Miraculous is in the catalog for all countries though.
I checked the Greek catalog and it is the same as Germany. If they are getting any new sets for just their market they aren't making into the print and will be web only. Nothing new on there yet - though all the other exclusives for their market are still there in the History section.
The US has Scooby Doo and no Asteryx, and interesting so does Canada this year. Did Asteryx not go over well there?

I've done a blog post on Animoblog about the new animals in the first half year. Only new molds are the jellyfish and the half clam, both from the mermaids series. Everything else is a recolor or repaint.

Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks for that helpful summary, Tim. I haven't checked the UK catalogues yet, but there doesn't sound like much to get excited about, even though I expected more for the 50th Anniversary year!

Thanks for the update and detailed explanation

I was sure hopefully  Asterix was going to make it to the states , perhaps there is still a tiny bit of hope for 2nd 1/2 like you said

Yes Happy New Year

The main catalogue for the UK is essentially the same as the German one, without the Funpark promotion on page 2.

Comparing the US and German [k/c]atalogs I found 11 pages with differences (whole of pages 2, 4-5, 52-3, 65, 66-67, half of pages 21 and 71 and one extra set on page 33 of the US catalog). On most pages, the three catalogues differ only in the text printed in black, which suggests that the inclusion in the US catalog of sets not available in the US is a cost-saving exercise, sadly (cheaper to include the colour pictures from the German Katalog than print a whole new page).

Is the Octopus figurehead in set 71530 (pages 26-7) not a new animal, Tim? Or is it a cling-on? Which reminds me, what happened to Star Trek sets?

The 50th anniversay sets (page 3, all cats) are frankly disappointing. But maybe I will be able to get some replacement aerials for the old cars...

It's a minor complaint, but when are they going to change the free-gift figure?!

Thanks for the information, Tiermann!

The catalogues this year are definitely not as exciting as they have been in the past, and the cuts are not making the future look good. :-\

The Deepers look nice though, and I will certainly try to get some of the anniversary sets and new Fi?ures.

I really like some of the new sets! Some of the new sets are well thought out.
71453, the new ski set. Unfortunately the bear is not completely white but a sort of blueish white. There is a nice market stall in it
71447 knights birthday. Looks like a fun set to give to a boy on his birthday.
71448 love the blue fish outfit and sea lion. Nice set for the zoo lovers.
71419 giant octopus and octopus man. Fun and imaginative addition for pirate theme lovers.
71532. That giant crab
71509. Tiny house + related sets. Looks really nice. (Unfortunately I don’t like the muted colours of the recycled plastic sets, but I don’t think the children will mind)
71441. Caravan cafe. Like the caravan. Wondering if a bed would fit in.
71454. Treasure hunt in the jungle. I like that it’s a complete set. Children can imagine themselves as real treasure hunters.
71499 mermaid animal care. I can really imagine girls playing vet with the sea animals

Graham - I didn't include the figurehead as I suspect it is either molded on or so specific in shape that it can't be used as a separate piece. I will end up with the set i am sure and decide then if it gets added.

Is that keeper with animals (71448) meant to be ironic? The keeper is dressed as a fish and is feeding seals who eat fish...

Been inactive a while due to busy things going on in non-Playmobil world.
My son almost scared me saying he doesn’t want his Playmobil anymore (he’s only 5).
Lego, Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have taken over.

Just thought have a look on DE website and saw some pieces and now seen the catalog. Suffice to say he really likes the new Pirates pieces. Especially all the interesting adversaries, the crab and octopus men especially. I quite like the big ship is going for that vibe Sal'ahari Sands has to some extent. At first didn’t like it but seeing all the pieces so far I quite like them.

Might be a pricey year (last one was quite quiet).

Shane no soldiers though to add to the mix.

One thing he’s really into is “klicks”, his term for the MyFigures. Really think Playmobil should make that part of sets normally. Now he has a load he always checks any new sets have them and gets disappointed. So we’ll be definately getting the new set of them.

Nice to hear your son likes the new pirate sets. Playmobil did great on those adversaries.
I didn’t take a good look at the pirate ship, but that octopus front looks fun and I like the print on the sail and the ray.

Why do you think that the Deepers are the adversaries?

Deluxe Toy & Hobby has not received new catalogs for distribution since the end of 2022; they also have had no new shipments of PM come in since late summer/early fall, IIRC. Items that I ordered through the store last year, including the COLOR series, which is on the US website, have not arrived. I'm also still waiting for a case of the last Fi?ures series.

Deluxe received very little PM in time for the Christmas season.

By the start of each year, Deluxe always had a copy of the new catalog & the forms necessary to order everything for the store, but nothing, yet. I've texted Deluxe a link to the online US catalog, but that won't be very helpful, I'm sure. Perhaps in the next few days they will have a copy of the new order sheets for me to look at, but who knows....

The life-size Klingon I oredered in Jan of '22 is a lost cause, I'm sure.

The tiny house is cute and so is the café caravan, but that's not for us apparently.

Why do you think that the Deepers are the adversaries?

  So true. Although from a childs perspective, I hope they imagine themselves more a pirate than an 8-legged crab man  8}. So if they are the pirates, then the 8 legged crab man must be the adversary even though he roamed the seven seas way way longer.

Yeah I think the deepers (good phrase) just give it a fresh appeal.

By any chance anyone know similar pieces that make up the sash on the black pirate in 71533 that has a front sword holder and rear gun clip?

Am I the only one really excited by 71591 "Classic Police Car"? I still have my 2x blue standard cars of the same shape, my son plays with them now. For me they "are" Playmobil, its the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Playmobil.

Catalogue says: "Faithfully recreated to match the original". Does anyone know whether this would be a new mould then? Or is that just marketing speak?

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. I had not seen this re-release and it was the very first playmobil  car I can recall having as a child .

I sure hope they are clever enough to repurpose that mold and re-release the classic rally cars

I for one am IN LOVE with the new sea creatures (like jellyfish) introduced with the mermaids AND the deep sea creature/human hybrids!  ;D I've always wanted jellyfish and a cecaelia (cecaelio?)/mer-octopus klicky and here again Playmobil answers my prayers again! I really hope one day they can add things like a proper anglerfish or more deep sea things.

A pufferfish like the one found in the 123 line would be awesome. Maybe make another "sea witch" lineup. But hey, baby steps!

And they must've JUST added the crab man too!  :o

A blue lobster has been snuck into this one

Oh and there's FINALLY a ship with a figurehead of some sort! The sails are still Imaginex level of atrocious, but it's a start!

It's also nice to see the old ghost Pirates monsters coming back with new colors! Wonder if a hydra or new sea serpent altogether will make an appearance! (The crab is so beautiful :'( !)

However, I worry with all the painted faces and how quickly they could rub off. Guess I better keep standard, molde-face heads around in case of an emergency swap. Nevertheless....my wallet is going to suffer. AGAIN.

They'd make good army builder bases but I have to comment on the pirate with his low slung shooter. Does no one in playmomarketing check with outsiders to see what their pictures look like before going to print?

My toy store already has many of the pirate sets, even before the website does; I picked up the treasure hunt (71420) & the octopus battle & everything else is on layaway.

The treasure hunt comes with a new snake/clicky hybrid called "the guardian of the island."

Part of me hopes not - thanks to my sister, I didn't get 2 green ones... so we have one of each - thanks to whatever bright soul made the Hercules hydra the same, we didn't buy the set..  Anyways, they are HUGE (I didn't manage to put both in the dio :( ) that fitting a THIRD one would be a problem.

That said... well.. if they make a different one.. WANT.  :P  They are sooooo beautiful.

However, I worry with all the painted faces and how quickly they could rub off. Guess I better keep standard, molde-face heads around in case of an emergency swap.

Good luck with that. What with the different skin colors, sometimes it is not easy to get a replacement. And worse than rubbing off (we are not 5), I worry about the misprints. It's rare to find a spirit klicky that doesn't look like an idiot, with the eyes printed on the forehead :(

Nevertheless....my wallet is going to suffer. AGAIN.

Mine too. But please... let's not give them advance warning, ok?  :shhhh:

Does no one in playmomarketing check with outsiders to see what their pictures look like before going to print?

No.
(that is abundantly clear)
