Title: Western Town (bml87)
Post by: bml87 on December 29, 2017, 20:00:03
A little background story: Until last Summer I only had the Sheriff's Office (3786), the Snake River Ranch (3805), the Canoe and puma (3875), the Steaming Mary loc (5054) and some Western klickies. Most of the pieces, klickies and animals I always used for my zoo, until I watched the series Deadwood and the movie Wyatt Earp... The idea to create a Western diorama was born! Soon I started to collect more sets; I bought second hand sets, searched for pieces on eBay, travelled to several toy shops in East- and West-Flanders, trying to find the most recent Western sets and F!gures (if still available). To my own surprise I was able to find a lot of the things I wanted in blue boxes! And sometimes I had to be a bit creative, for example; I bought 2 Colorado Spring stations (6462) and ordered some parts from the Direct Service to recreate the Western farm (6410). Still a lot cheaper then buying it on eBay... So recently I was able to finish the most of my diorama, it still needs a finishing touch and some more klickies, but I couldn't wait to share some pictures already! It's not my biggest diorama for sure, but I'm really happy about it!

Wowee, that's a great diorama - lots of action, great detail and excellent composition and viewpoints, and humour.

I especially like the details of the child on the porch on the swing, the goose with its neck through the fence (the grass is always greener on the other side), the dog and puppy on the verandah and the dog sniffing at the prisoner's food.

Great diorama! Nice use of the farm and castle parts in the Saloon build. That's a great solution to make it a two story building.

Thanks playmofire! As I said in my introduction, I even want to add more details and showing more rooms inside. I still have enough pieces to build another Western House, I’m thinking of a city hall with a balcony form which the mayor sees everything happen.

That is some fantastic stuff

Thanks Mad Hatter, I’m glad you like it :)

Thanks Tim! Well, I saw people doing it in various ways, but I think this is the only way you can make a two story Saloon without breaking or manually modify the Playmobil. I have to thank eBay for the parts :-)

That's great :)

Love the use of the castle wood railings on the buildings! I will have to remember that!

Fantastic diorama!  Always love to western towns.  Where did you source the saloon porch supports. They look great on that two story saloon.

That's great :)

Thanks Tahra :) ! The idea was not new, but as I said before, I think it’s the only possibility to have a full balcony in Western style without modifying other Playmobil railings.

Fantastic diorama!  Always love to western towns.  Where did you source the saloon porch supports. They look great on that two story saloon.

Thanks Craig, as of the historical themes; the Western one is also the one I like the most! I will make another one in the future with native Americans, but I need to collect some more stuff.

If you want to build a two story Western building like me, you will need (apart from the Medieval railings) the brown 3-way connector (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-07-0830) and the porch support (only available in brown: http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-07-0800). The connector I found on eBay and the porch support on a Belgian second hand page (2dehands.be), but I saw it already on eBay too. If you do a set nr search on eBay, you’ll find the parts (if available, sometimes you have to wait a bit). Of course you can always buy the set in which you have both parts: http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3716&pics=on . I missed one on 2dehands.be for only 25 euros, I could cry!

Not sure it's safe to store the guns near the stove though - the ammunition might go off!  ;D

Thanks Mad Hadder! I read somewhere you have a huge Western collection, you also built dioramas?

Great interior scenes, love the cat in the bed

Thanks Tim! I should put some mice under the bed  ;D

Thanks Macruran, well, I was doubting to replace it by the rack that comes with the farm, but I’m still not sure what my last building is going to be (ideas I have now: gun store, laundry service, grocery store, furniture store, ...). It will depend on that  ;)

Those are great - like it was said, the detail in each building is amazing.

(I am not sure if mousies under the bed wouldn't disturb the cat's rest... )

The photos are too large for me though - I mean, I need to scroll on each one, making it hard to see them - and can never see it in full. Does it work for everyone else?

Thanks Tahra ;D . My Playmobil cellar is like a meditation room for me (I also don't have any connection there, no wifi, no 4G, ...) and everyday my mind has new ideas.

About the pictures' size, I guess everyone has the same problem. I saw it in other topics as well, when  you link it from imgur or photobucket. I don't know if there's an option in the forum to crop it when you link it?

Anyway, hereby the links to the imgur albums, I will post these links from now on as well:

You can resize them when linking. Actually, this is what bml87 has been doing. If you look at the code associated with the images in this thread, they include dimensions. The images are sized by putting pixel dimensions in the code thus:

Code: [Select]

The dimensions in the above code are what most of the pictures in this thread have been posted with. Changing the dimensions (make sure to maintain the aspect ratio) should make them appear smaller.

They're big for me too. It'd be nice to have the recommended image size posted clearly somewhere, maybe on every page. On the other hand, it's nice to have detailed pictures. One trick that works well is to right click and open image in new tab. That way you can see it all unencumbered by commentary.
