That's a wonderful and impressive harbor, Arizzo!  I can't imagine how much time that must have taken!  :o

you can even see more pics here ->

Customize it! Board: Port Royal (http://www.playmo-convention.de/board/viewtopic.php?t=4231)

Last pic shows the makers:

to the left Don Lobo (Sascha) who made nearly all of the beautiful soldiers and ships (and without him, the harbour would have been real empty ....)

... and to the right you can see the architect of the harbour ....

(the chick in the middle is just someone we ran into at the Wolfsburg Convention  )

the stress of the harbour/diorama is the buildings and not so much the scenery ... (besides we ran out of time setting up the scenery ... :-[ )

enjoy

(and leave a feedback if you wish)

Magnificent, Arizzo !!!

Thanks for the link to "Customize it" ... it helped to get a better idea of how big your harbour really is. It is HUGE!

There is so much to see. I think that I would have spent hours just walking around and looking at your incredible creation.

Thank you very much for sharing your photos.

BTW, your barn roof on the warehouse is brilliant!

Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

http://www.klickywelt.de/wob-2009-f66.html (http://www.klickywelt.de/wob-2009-f66.html)

as far as I know, you need to have an account at Klickywelt to view the pics - but at Customize-It you should be able to see the pics without having an account ...

but of course we at Customize-It (and I guess also the guys from Klickywelt) would be honored, if you'd become a member, Richard  ;)

Everyone else is also welcomed, of course :D

edit:
btw: the measure of the diorama-area (build out of tables) is 7,20m x 4,40m - the harbour itself measures approximately 6,90m x 2,80m - at first I thought there is too much space covered with plain water, but the longer I looked at the diorama, the more I came to the conclusion that the huge expanse of water emphasizes the harbour as a real harbour ...

I'm working on it

we're still recovering and unloading our diorama

I asked several people their Pictures from the fair

I have 3000 and more pics to sort out

I might take a while but I'll put them on my site for those who have no account on the German forums

Excellent custom scenery in all of the displays  :wow:! It brings to light some ideas for my modern Playmobil City Port & Harbor project in process using System X for the elevated crane docks!

Hello, Arizzo ...

Everyone seems to agree that your diorama appears to be very large.

But, how BIG is it?

Since I don't think metric, I converted your meters into approximate feet measurements. (As everyone knows, "feet measurements" are the old English system that, for some unknown reason, most Americans seem to love.)

The overall dimensions of the entire diorama are more than 23 1/2 feet by about 14 1/2 feet.

The harbour area measures more than 22 1/2 feet by more than 9 feet!

Yes, that is one gigantic, beautiful diorama !!!

And, I absolutely agree, Arizzo, that the large harbour area really emphasizes the realism, but I also think that it definitely adds to the visual magic and drama of your spectacular diorama.

Thank you very much for sharing your marvelous creation with us.

All the best,
Richard

It was indeed a fantastic display - there was something going on everywhere. Unfortunately, we had had to leave early - so we didn't have the time I would like to have had  :'(
But Saskia and I agreed (more or less) to return next year!

It was also nice to meet you finally in reality, Arizzo, after all that time meeting in cyberspace  ;)

If this event will be next year at all ... (I've read that due to less expected visitors the organizers are not willing to continue this event anymore)

wow!!!! that is incredible, i am glad you posted the second link as well, to show us the overall view.  i particularly like the "barn-like" structure, pardon my lack of knowledge on its particular use and name.  it was fun looking at all of the photos, i could almost hear the bustle of activity at the docks as i was wandering around.  thank you for sharing.

What an awesome harbour set up, congratulations Arizzo and Sascha! Absolutely breathtaking, I'll be looking at the pictures for hours noticing new details.

Does this event get any support or recognition from Geobra? This is the sort of thing they really need to show interest in, even just one juliro sales executive turning up for a couple of hours to chat with the contributors and the public, to see what adult collectors are doing with their company's product, and to find out what they can do to encourage more sales. The single biggest set I know of using this colour of wall is the 5727 Pirate Dungeon, and there are a lot of parts in your layout that I didn't know even existed.

I can only imagine the hours and the energy required for planning, ordering parts, designing the layout and each of the buildings, practise set-up, packing and transporting, re-setting up and then the breakdown afterwards. Most of us have done some small scale layouts, but rarely anything on 1/10th the scale of this colossus.

It's a great shame that the 4294 Lighthouse was designed with the apparent intention of preventing it from being used in such a set up. At the time of release I was in the camp arguing that it didn't need to be modular, but now, if I haven't before, I'm eating a large wedge of humble pie and admitting it should have been made with System X.

The recent trend of for Playmobil buildings that stand alone, and CANNOT be connected to anything else, may not stop avid collectors from creating such massive dioramas, but if they have to use the modern sets (e.g. Egyptian buildings, the lighthouse or the Dragonworld towers) they'll become displays of collections of small sets, and not a massive, integrated whole.

This was the last convention in Wolfsburg

This event is organized and financed by one couple supported by their family

It was the 4th convention and for the first time Playmobil showed interest
but still is not getting involved

Frank and Karin organize this for the fun and not to make money
The german playmocommunity is like a big family on such events , it's amazing how we deal and help eachother on such events and it is allways nice to see eachother again
it's hard to explain if you have not been there

Frank allready told before the convention took place it was their last convention in wolfsburg

The amount of vistors are supposed to pay the costs from the convention
and that didnot happen , too few visitors
it's no longer fun if you start loosing money

the why ? I 'm not shure but it was great weather so people prefer to enjoy the weather , and the world crisis , a lot of people I personally know were not there because they couldn't afford it or their private life didnot permit it

never forget it's a hobby and not something primar in life

I'm happy for myself and Rapunzel we could keep our promise to Frank and Karin
we had a great time meeting old faces again
And happy we created such a great team to build our story

For us it was an adventure that took us 1.5 year wich we tried to share with all of you in my preparations page on my site

I'm still busy going throug all the pictures we took or I became from other members

to be continued .......

all the best

erm ... I have to correct you there, Gepetto. Saskia and I were only there as visitors. The display was made by Arrizo and co. - not us.
and ... erm ... we aren't in the pictures either. I allways try to prevent that.
