Title: What theme(s) or set(s) do you like the least?
Post by: Luis on December 28, 2010, 01:05:54
Ok, I don't want to sound pesimistic or attacking to any theme - it's  about giving a honest (and respectul) point of view about our least favorite theme(s). ;)
I'm sure everyone has had this feeling...we don't have to like all themes or sets just because it's all Playmobil, right? :uhoh:
Maybe we don't necessarily hate certain themes, we're just not attracted to them...

Me for example, the current farm and pony ranch themes that replaced their sets from the 90's and the top agents (no comment) are some of the themes I've never liked I've always liked the least. :P
I'm also not very fond on the 2 last versions of the victorian house...I do like the sets to furnish them though :-[

On a more drastic note, if it was in my control I would make the farm and top agents themes as well as some repetitive Specials be withdrawn asap! :shhhh: :toot:

Ok I promised I'd act politically correct...now I exit ;D

Interesting question, Luis! I like all themes that Playmobil does, but some better than others such as the modern city, rescue, hospital, ocean exploration, etc. I really liked the original Victorian series more than the recent replacement ones. I like the the improvements that PM incorporates in the newer releases, but I question their color choices sometimes as in the Barbarian's pink & ultra green dragon knights :hmm:! The secret agent agents are a little strange for PM, but I feel they are sometimes trying to compete with other toy lines (like LEGO) without thinking things through.

I might step on a few toes with the first two, but my least favorite right now would have to be ghost pirates, dragon knights, and that ridiculous jungle/freaky monster klicky/giant iguana theme. I'm not much into fantasy theme stuff. What I've always liked about playmobil is how well it imitates real life, and how historically accurate it is. Oh, and I also hated liked least the fairies.

Other than that, i've never taken much note of the soccer themes (hey, i'm from the US; what do you expect?), or anything to do with race cars or motorcycles.

This is a great topic, Luis!

I like most themes, however the ghost pirates, magic, and fairy themes dont really appeal to me that much because I like real-life things, or historically accurate if you know what I mean :)

Yes, Great topic, Luis :xmascheer:

Great topic Luis!!!

This is a great opportunity to say how much I HATE (sorry if I am not politically correct) the circus theme...as much as I hate the circus in real life!

Apart from that I don't have any other dislikes but the sets I like the least are:farm, forest  riding stables, car related themes, city service sets.

Please note that I do like the police and fire themes a lot and if I like a certain item in a certain set I'll get that set.

Ghost pirates, fantasy knights, mermaids, urban-based themes in general.

Yes, this is great.... we always talk about the ones we DO like  ;D
Anyway...I don't HATE any theme..... I'm just not interested in some, such as:
Faries, riding stables, top agents, sports, leasure, ghost pirates, veterinarian and city life.... they are a few I know.... but what can you do?  :P
I do have some of the sets from these themes, it is just the theme in general is not appealing to me...

An interesting topic, Luis.

There are themes which strongly attract me (i.e. fire and rescue), themes which attract me because they can be used in conjunction with fire and rescue (e.g farm, city life, trains and even the Victorian theme - I still regret not buying both, or even one, of two original Victorian mansions which were going for £60 instead of £120.  Now those would have been great for a multi-pump fire!), themes which I find attractive because of past interests (e.g. the knights theme but not some of the recent additions, although things do seem to be getting better again) and then there are the dragon knights, ghost pirates and top agents which I wouldn't give house room to as they are just not the quality of concept I expect of Playmobil and look, to me, cheap and tacky.

Well I am not thrilled about them but I do like them! I was given the whole theme as a present from the toys shop that finally closed down last month...Some items have good potentials...Perhaps I'll post a few pics of all of them...

Why do so many of you dislike the city life, police, & Fire Dept. themes? In my opinion, they are the most life like :)9!

I don't know.... in my case I find more interesting the "historical sets" if you will. It is more appealing to me the representation of past eras than the actual one or the fantasy lands... that's all. I do like SOME sets from all themes though....  :)

But why are so many of you so judgemental of themes you don't collect? The life like city, police, & fire dept. themes are getting better & better with details that are so realistic! Why are you not respectful of them? I don't collect the medieval theme but I respect them, & their details :hmm:!

What themes do you actually collect? I never see any pictures of your collection, but you are quick to be very negative of the modern themes? Have you even touched the new modern series releases, or do you go by pictures alone to develop your opinion?

You are being very respectful, Gaston, thank you! As you say, I don't dislike any theme, but I do question colors, or choice of reasoning! I feel we need to be respectful to all themes, even though we may not collect them! We all have opinions & dislikes, & should state why we feel the way we do about them! Just to say we hate something is not productive, but to say what turns us off to a new theme introduction would be.

For me the historical sets are much more interesting. The one theme I could really do without is the ghost pirates (even though I have bought some).

I like (and attracted) very much  the historical/military themes of any kind.
I like seeing armies, castles, warships etc.   :captain:

From all these I prefer mostly the medieval period and 1)the old "Nurnberg stadtwache" soldiers, 2) the old black knights with the "half egg" helmet, which one of them I have in my avatar.   :knight:

You are right of course Bill!

I apologise for using the word hate in the first place  :-[ , since I was the first to express it... Please forgive me but this is the way I feel towards circus in general... Playmobil or real life... it feels like there is so much saddness and sorrow to cover up with all the acts of entertainment presented there...

As I also wrote before, I really like the police and fire rescue themes, mainly because its a dream of mine that I never was able to fulfill... (always wanted to be a cop  ;) ) But as for the rest of the city themes, it feels like I am seeing things that I see in my ordinary everyday life... buildings, hospitals (my mother is a retired MD and used to work at a hospital for 32 years...), cars etc etc... I feel the need to get away from all that and this is the reason why Medieval and Fantasy themes are more appealing to me. Mainly I feel the way Gaston does:

in my case I find more interesting the "historical sets" if you will. It is more appealing to me the representation of past eras than the actual one

And I do like and buy some sets from themes that are not appealing to me!  P) :fireman: :chef: :gent: :sherlock: :builder: :arrr: :cowboy: :indian: :egypt: :roman: :viking: :knight:

I thought no-one would reply to this thread as apparently this subject was some sort of taboo :P Thanks everyone for sharing your likings, and also for explaining why - the reasons seem to be related to background, culture, perceptions of reality or just personality differences, which is normal I guess :)

I'm actually surprised at how many people don't like the ghost pirates and the fantasy themes - I love those two ;D (and I haven't even got the ghost pirate sets yet!) Better for me though, less competition when it comes to pictures/future photo stories, which is the main purpose of my collecting ;D

Seems that the knights, pirates and western (among other) themes have been the most popular throught the years. I don't love the western and the pirate themes but I do have some sets. :cowboy: :arrr:

I might step on a few toes with the first two, but my least favorite right now would have to be ghost pirates, dragon knights, and that ridiculous jungle/freaky monster klicky/giant iguana theme.

OMG that freaky giant iguana / jungle-like theme seems to have no fans at all :o
I don't wonder why though, I find it absolutely pointless boring :-X

First off, I'm not going to be politically correct.  That's a lie and a shade of grey and I will not be part of that - it is deceit and as such it is lying.

I don't know if I really dislike any specific theme Playmobil has.  There are a few sets that I would not have bought myself (for myself) - but have found out that children love them and some I have gotten myself and realised they are actually really cool (ie hippy backpacker 3844) http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3844.htm (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3844.htm)  Actually, all the outdoor sets were of no interest to me (except the motorcycles) but like all Playmobil it does grow on you.

Hmm, now that I've thought more about it, the "barbarian" pink "knights" they made.  Not because of the theme, but because of the use of that stupid colour for them!  That ruined a perfectly good concept.  Not to mention the stupid accessories for them like the mantlet with a face (?!) and the sad excuse for a seige tower (4437 and 4439).

One thing I dislike all the more than the rest is the use of the guns and other modern weapons with the police sets (which is why I will never buy a police set).  There is no need for that.  Heck, even Lego does not do that.

I totally agree with you on the circus theme, Panos!  I DONOT go to any circus just because of the sad expressions on the animals faces, so I will not endorse any circus related subjects! The police theme has started to use guns which reflects on the changes of the world directly. I don't like violence, but to ignore it, is irresponsible. Children in this country whose parents are police officers see their parents getting dressed in their uniforms, & witness them strapping on their gunbelts to go to work, sometimes with 3 pistols. Two crossdraw 40, 45, or 9mm caliber pistols on their gunbelts, & 1 ankle concealed weapon.

I can understand the effect this has in a child's psyche... very sad indeed... Actually, I am not sure how to feel towards the introduction of sidearms and shotguns in the police theme... but we also see so many weapons in the medieval series too... morningstars, double axes, maces... But I guess children are not exposed directly to the effects such a weapon has to a human being...

I don't know how many police forces use weapons, but in the UK they dont use any form of wepons. just a good old baton ;)

We do have some police that use rifles but have never seen actually seen any of these people.

It is always scary to see people with wepons, like when we went to Spain this year, the passport man at the airport had a pistol on him. And believe me I was pretty scared actually :-[

I've see policemen in London apprehending an armed suspect with their nightsticks only....  ;) Now the guy might have hurt a lot, but he lived to tell the tale...
You know that if a police officer shoots a suspect in greece, he/she is immidiately taken into custody... he/she can face serious charges even if he/she is fired upon...
A US police office, and correct me if I am wrong Bill, is allowed to use his/her sidearm, if all else fails and if the suspect is shouting at him/her, and come out clean...

Mainly, you have to consider the effects the visualisation of a gun has on ones psyche...

Every year there is a well known circus that comes through our city, that people protest against the entire time they are there. The people are members of PETA. I saw one time how they forced elephants to perform in training acts, & vowed never to attend or endorse these horrible entertainment acts.

I also think circuses are horrible places. Those poor animals have absolutely no life, kept in small cages and forced to perform all day, doing tricks that sometimes look difficult and painful.

I realize some feel the same way about zoos; I don't see them that way. There was certainly a time when they were no better than circuses, with sad metal bars and concrete floors, and as many animals as possible crowded into each cage. But I think most modern zoos make a real effort to give these animals comfortable homes and keep their lives comfortable and interesting. I wish the same could be said for circuses, but sadly, I have never heard of a circus where this was so.

Guns are illegal in the UK, so private individuals are less likely to shoot at a police officer. Night sticks can be a lethal weapon if used improperly, also! In the USA, if an officer feels a perpetrator is going to mortally wound them or an innocent victim, lethal force is allowed. After a shooting incident involving police, the officers involved are put on desk duty & an investigation is done to make sure department procedures were strictly obeyed! More tazors, & rubber bullets are being used to prevent such negative outcomes. More officers are adding a LED laser sight to their side arm & when the criminal sees a red dot on their forehead it's very intimidating!

This is very interesting... It seems there are some very different reasons people like playmobil -- for some they love its historical accuracy. Some like the way the modern themes perfectly mimic real life, the world they see around them. Others use it as kind of an escape from reality.

For me it is a combination of the last two. it's just like the world all around me, except that in the world of playmobil, everyone is smiling, and there are no problems...

Regarding police and violence: Funny story.... a police van with 24 riot police men inside, is on guard outside the US embassy here in Thessaloniki. Two armed officers stand on guard outside the van... A woman and her boy child pass by and the boy is screaming, crying his eyes out, because mummy did not allowed him a favour... the mother says to the child : '' shoosh now, otherwise I'll hand you over to the police..." I open my eyes wide and pose to think of what she said and how something like that could affect the boy negatilvely, while at the same time the two officers look at her with a terrified look..." Please ma'am, don't say these things to the poor kid...when he grow up he might throw us a molotov coctail''...

Even out of this funny-like story one can understand how behaviour can affect violent feelings and actions...

Although I gravitate toward Playmobil's historical themes, I don't hate any of their themes.  I don't really love the Ghost Pirates or the new Secret Agents, but I see their (probably temporary) place in Playmobil's lineup.

I agree with Wesley that I don't like the execution of certain sets like the purple barbarians or the current pirate ship, however I disagree with him about the inclusion of firearms in the police theme.  These are realistic tools that the police use everyday, just like a fireman's axe or a doctor's stethoscope.

I open my eyes wide and pose to think of what she said and how something like that could affect the boy negatilvely, while at the same time the two officers look at her with a terrified look..." Please ma'am, don't say these things to the poor kid...when he grow up he might throw us a molotov coctail''...

Even out of this funny-like story one can understand how behaviour can affect violent feelings and actions...

My mother would say when I was little that I'd better behave or she was going to put me in Prunty Town which was a orphan boys home at that time! Believe me, I straightened right up! It didn't give me any mental problems for hearing that, instead it made me respect authority.
Children need to learn respect, not to be pampered with parents saying they don't want their children to be afraid of anything.

I agree. I just think at least with certain kids, threatening to do something you are not really going to do is not effective. Some very stubborn kids will call your bluff.

If you say something make sure you back it up! My mother made a point to take me when I was 5 years old to the orphanage to donate some of the toys I outgrew. I was given a tour, & didn't like what I saw! I never tested my mother,...because she just may have done what she said she would! It's like when she told me to stop doing something like my first curse word that I promptly had my mouth washed out with a bar Ivory Soap :P! My mother always lived up to her word, & you didn't test her on the rest ;)!

Just like Bill said.  You have to follow through with what you have said.  No matter what.  Or your child will have proved you to be a liar.

I think the real thing here is to make sure, as parents, adults, caregivers, etc to never say you are going to do something that you cannot and will not do.

(ie Think before you act - or - make sure mind is in gear before mouth is put into motion)

Totaly agree there, my mother would also threaten to send me to a strict boarding school where my godmother's mother was the headmaster (and she was creepy...)... We also visited that school just to confirm the threat... But it was not fear that mede me conform... it was rather a dislike of the environment in which I was threatened to be a part of... I don't know, can you impose respect without imposing fear? Threatening a kid by telling him ''i'll hand you over to the police...'' I'm not sure thats very appropriate... (and i doudt he commited any serious offence ) I think the fear it creates does not lead to respect...

You are quite right - Playmobil does indeed grow on you and that's its secret of success.

Playmobil always try to operate reflecting the real world within reason and many, maybe most, police forces are armed.  In the case of the UK, as yet police usually being armed is not usual and so I just remove the holster from my police figures; it's quite easy to do.

Every kid is different. i was easy I guess. Just knowing I made my mom upset was always enough for me. She was very loving, and I wanted to please her. She didn't have to make threats to make me behave. but htat may be the difference between little boys and little girls. Not wanting to make mom unhappy certainly wasn't enough for my brother!

My grandma would say that if I didn't behave myself then Boney would come and get me.  This was in the early 1950s and the Boney she was referring to was Napoleon Bonaparte of the Battle of Waterloo fame in 1815!  She wasn't as old as that, of course, but no doubt her grandmother had said the same to her and so on way back.

Damo :)

At any major UK airport, Damo, you see armed police while one day when shopping in Asda in Harrogate (a very respectable and law abiding town) I was so surprised and disturbed to see armed police walking round the store shopping that I contacted the local Inspector in charge.  It turned out that there had been a stand-off at a house overnight and that the police were on their way back to be debriefed and had stopped to stock up on stuff for breakfast!  The Inspector agreed with me that the officers should have locked their weapons in the gun safe in the boot of the car and one of them should then have stayed with the car while the other shopped.

Edit:  Having said that I was disturbed to see armed police walking about Harrogate, in Malta where the police always carry arms, it doesn't bother me at all.

The idea of police not carrying guns is very foreign to me. They all do here, only recently they have started carrying tasers too and are encouraged to use that instead of deadly force when possible.

This is very interesting... It seems there are some very different reasons people like playmobil -- for some they love its historical accuracy. Some like the way the modern themes perfectly mimic real life, the world they see around them. Others use it as kind of an escape from reality.

True true :)

It's a scape from reality indeed, maybe that's why I like the sets w/ fairies, wizards and gnomes...they're all so magical :P
I'm one of the few collectors who don't love the medieval theme because it's not part of my historical or cultural background (I've noticed MOST European folks on the Spanish forum LOVE the medieval sets, and I find that boring :-[) - I've always related castles and stuff mostly to fantasy stories, rather than to an accurate or precise historical moment. I don't dislike the medieval theme at all though :)

PS I do not like the RC cars at all...I prefer the classic style cars Playmobil produced back in the day

I'm reading the thread, thanks for the review Panos ;)

To me, if it has batteries, it misses the point of playmobil.

True, although there's some sets that require batteries that do not loose the original point, like the victorian lamp posts and the xmas tree, in my opinion :)

I think we all may eventually change our minds regarding the sets/themes we don't like - trust me, it happened to me with the sets to furnish the cheezy/arabian looking palace (I ended up buying all of them to use them for victorian customs!) :o

I think I like all the themes!

What I dislike though is the more recent playmobil trend of making the themes (even classic ones) less realistic looking and more preschool-ish.

For example:

Pirates are cool.
Ghost pirates with rainbow coloured clothes are not (IMO).

Victorian theme is cool.
Newer Victorian home and even modern house themes are way too colourful like preschool colours: yellow house with red and blue trim? yuk!

Animal/farm/zoo themes are cool.  But the more recent farms, again, suffer from the preschool colours syndrome.  Why can't it be realistic like the classic ones?

And back to pirates.  Even using the same mold as the original 3750 pirate ship; the newer ships (and even the corsairs/schooners) use bright outlandish and unrealistic colours!  WHY, playmobil, why?!?!?!?!

And why do the new Knights have lazer-powered-chainsaws?   :hmm:

Yes i agree. As I've said before, I sometimes notice people seem to think the toys are for preschoolers, even though they on closer inspection are clearly made for older children, with all the small parts. I think all the bright primary colors are what give it this appearance. They don't look so sophisticated these days.

Maybe they are trying to appeal to young kids because with videogames being so popular, older kids are a lost cause?  :P

aha, you may be on to something there.  Kids today compared to their counterparts of the same age in a decade or two or three back are far less "innocent" at the same age today than kids were back in the day.  I remember as a 12 year old I was still playing with toys, whilst 12 year olds nowadays are already dating and texting and updating their myspace and facebook pages while watching pg-13 movies that would have most certainly been considered rated "R" when I was a kid.

In other words, perhaps playmobil did lose its older kid audience, and now has to market primarily to, well, primary-aged kids.  The older kids could care less (in general) about the reverting to primary colours.  So that leaves us adult collectors scratching our heads on what to do with the new themes/colours without resorting to ebay to buy the classic and more realistic-looking lines now retired.

Exactly. Sometimes I feel like it's a different world from when I was growing up, and that wasn't very long ago. I'm only 25! At the age I was still playing with barbies, girls nowadays are dressing like barbies. And their parents let them.

Oh, well. I guess spray paint is the only answer. To the primary colors I mean. Not to girls dressing like barbies.  ;)

Parents do not parent anymore - they want to be their child's "friend".  Thank you, Dr. Spock (and mass media).

That's the thing though, they're not being themselves.  They're just copying what everybody else in media is doing by subscribing to the easily-accessible digital universe, ads, commercials, public icons, rather than be creative and imaginitive and play with toys and OTHER KIDS as kids should be, while their parents say "don't bug me" while caught up on the computer updating facebook or playing farmville instead of interacting with their kids!

The media has become the surrogate parents for these children now.

I don't like the rock-jungle theme at all, there are a few new animals but nothing I would buy an entire set to get. I am middle of the road on the Ghost Pirates. I don't like the big ship but do like the figures themselves. The animals are ok but I would rather have something more realistic. I feel the same about the Dragon knights theme. I like the dragons and the figures etc, but don't like the structures.
In general I am not liking what they are doing with battery operated sets lately. I would much rather see them do a realistic futuristic space theme. I think that would make more sense than the rock-jungle sets did.

I think this is a lesson Playmobil may have to learn the hard way.  Hopefully quickly, though, so as not to lose too many customers who will move onto other toy lines.

Mind you, if Playmobil reduced the amount of sets they have on the market by half and just have those half good quality sets, I think it would be just fine.  I think we've been spoiled lately (last number of years) for the vast amount of sets Playmobil has been producing and the large number of themes.

besides that theme was a copy (sorry but it's true) of another brand, right? what is it called??

Ghost pirates! Without an hesitation. There was no need for those IMO. Inspired by Pirates of the Carribean, maybe?
The three headed sea snake is an interesting piece that would make a nice Hydra in an ancient Greek theme!
Cheers,

Why do so many of you dislike the city life, police, & Fire Dept. themes? In my opinion, they are the most life like :)9!

why i don't like them?  i don't find them artistic or good looking  :hmm: :hmm: for kids are good offcourse they have a lot of playing abilities  ;)

What themes do you actually collect? I never see any pictures of your collection, but you are quick to be very negative of the modern themes? Have you even touched the new modern series releases, or do you go by pictures alone to develop your opinion?

i collect victorian western   pirates  all exept the last series (it's horible)  knights steck only   circus  and i collect msib from all themes even the working theme  from 80's and 90'

yes i had many stuff from the modern theme as a kid  i'm negative because i don't like them this doesn't mean that everyone has the same opinion with me

I think I like all the themes!

What I dislike though is the more recent playmobil trend of making the themes (even classic ones) less realistic looking and more preschool-ish.

yes  :( :( :( :( i agree suddently all new sets all not realistic and silly especially this new ship is so fake

well, back on topic, lol, my least favourite theme actually is the latest farm theme.  I like the animals, but can't stand the preschool looking barns and fencing.  Though it's nothing a little spray paint can't remedy :D

the latest farms are terrible but the 1992 farm? and all  sets of this series are great !!!!

Then you certainly have not been to circuses Alex. I've only been once at the age of 10 and did not like it one bit. Nor have you been watching the news. In May 2009 there was an incident involving an elephant abuse (I am terribly sorry Bonnie) in a greek circus. Arcturos, an environmentalist group that specialises in the preservation of wildlife and especially in the preservation and protection of bears --- http://www.arcturos.gr/en/default.asp --- shot a video of that abuse. It can be found in youtube but I will not post a link here as its inhuman and very sad.

Yes, i definitely do not approve of circuses. I haven't been to one since I was a small child. What I like are zoos. As a matter of fact they often house elephants that have been rescued from circuses, and try to make the rest of their lives more comfortable.
Title: Re: What theme(s) or set(s) do you like the least?

I like the circus theme because of the colour and variety of the sets.  I have never been to a circus that had animals, the ones here in the UK are mainly acrobats and the ones I have seen have been very impressive.  I'm not keen on zoos, but don't mind safari parks and I am hoping to create a wildlife park for our next exhibition.
I have the medieval 'dancing bear' sets, because they were a part of life in medieval times, but it doesn't mean I approve of what went on then.
As for least favourite themes, on the whole I like most themes.  I am not impressed with the new secret agent theme although there are possibilities with the building and I don't really like the mermaids and sea horses but in most of the themes there is something that I think is useful even if I don't like the theme as a whole.
I did say I didn't like the bunnies until Gis sent me one and I changed my mind  :-[ so I could change my mind again with the themes I have said I am not keen on!

Good point. i think it's cool that the arena comes with lions and gladiators simply because it is historically accurate. It doesn't mean I approve of these fights or would have gone to see them if i had lived in that time. A lot of the things we play with aren't really pleasant, just realistic. All kinds of fighting armies, police and criminals, firefighters rescuing people from burning buildings. I guess the same might be said of the circus animal sets.

Yes, a Cirque du Soleil type theme could be good... it'd be more interesting than their traditional circus sets.  Of course they'd have to make klickies that can be all twisted up! ha!

BTW, Cirque du Soleil started and is based in Montreal.

However, I am kind-of attracted to the fire theme... ;D

But then I realized if I bought it
then I would have a whole other theme that I would "have" to start collecting... ;)

So... maybe one day. ;D

Also, I don't want to step on any toes, but I severely dislike system x  :hissyfit: I miss steck, at least for the castles, it looks so realistic and has so many possibilities for creation. What we like or dislike is all a matter of personal interests and tastes.

I don't care for Ghost Pirates.  Too scary.

I don't like the Circus Theme.  Clowns are even scarier.

I don't care for the Fairy Theme, but I can see how little girls would like them.

The Mermaid Theme is just too strange for my tastes.

WOW, what a nice read this is :-)

Thanks for a great thread guys (I mean it) so much good stuff :-)

Personally I see value in most Playmobil Themes. But am mainly attracted to the medieval ones. I have been a Dungeon Master for Fantasy Role Playing Games for 17 years now and anything that I can use for that is fair game for me....Ghost Pirates can be used as Zombies (Yes I just might have a couple) And the New Jungle theme most people dislike have some very nice weird animals that are perfect in a Fantasy Medieval world.

As you all might know I am also working on a Zoo together with my wife (for many of the same reasons bonniebeth has stated we endorse the Zoo theme) but the Circus theme is bad form when it includes animals. I really like the Ciscus though when it is JUST people. (My wife works in a shelter for Exotic Mamals (up to Chimpanzees in size) and they actually do have a couple of Chimps that used to "work" in the Circus. They are now looking into also sheltering big cats, because one of the reasons Circus animals are sometimes not confiscated is that there is no good way to house them afterwards). For the Zoo we need many building pieces and city people, but cars and the like are not very usefull. Police buildings are great but we don't use them as such. I understand your point Bill in regards to the details of the Police and Fire themes and I fully agree, it is just something that I (we) don't collect.

My wife and duaghter just started in on the Princess Theme (I got my wife a 3019 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3019) for her birthday) and they already have a story Dollhouse to play with as well.

My son isn't much into Fire and Police themes but loves the Dragon Knights so he received the small tower for xmass and will probably get the big castle for his bday in August. He also likes the Egyptians a lot and we already have most of the sets lined up for him as presents.

So what we won't be buying anything of it seems is the secret Agent stuff (although my son said he loves the free DVD we recently got). Also we are staying away from the Pirates because eventhough I like the theme (and we have a 3750 and a schooner and a couple of 4444's) I don't want to start collecting it as avidly as I do Medieval. The Construction and Harbour themes are really not very usefull for the our collections so we are staying away from them (for now...I am trying to convince my wife, construction does happen in Zoo's but no luck sofar :) ). I guess thats a pretty comprhensive list of our likes/dislikes of the themes. Overall I understand and respect most themes it's just that we have to prioritize in life!

How

I kind of have to agree with this logic  :eh?: I hate all Playmobil. If geobra never existed I could of afforded a 2nd farm

I think a lot of personal choices are really governed by ones situation.

The ghost pirates are our youngest favorite. Every battle not a single sailor dies under the sieges of his 2 older brothers vast fleets .

The Circus is our Middle sons favorite due to his gymnastics training. He is a very silly soul as well. We go to all the circus's in our town (animals and all) and the only one we disliked was the one from Mexico. Part of the act is to pretend to almost fall (not funny)  :0

All the boys have been eagerly awaiting the Spy theme and have been watching old James Bond in preparation.

thanks :D and that's true ;) i already got my nephew his first 1.2.3 set - I don't have to love it b/c I know it's just to introduce him to the playmobil world (although when you choose a 1.2.3. set for your children or nephews/nieces you normally make sure you like it or has good play value) - He won't be able to use it until he's 18 months old and he probably won't even know what it is b/c babies at that age normally don't know what a toy is, they just play with whatever they find or are given! :P

I would love to get some of those old baby toys, too, but they are pretty hard to find. I've been seeing some on ebay lately though.

I really hate the entire Pirate-theme ...

mainly because I know I would try to get every single ship ever made if I started - and I definitly don't have the spave for that  :-[
It's a bit like a alcoholic hating alcohol ...

But to be honest, the only theme I don't like is space.
And I don't like Playmobil 1.2.3 either. I'd prefer Little People.

Bogro

one of the many reasons I love my playmobil is I never pay full price for any of the major items because if you're sleuthy enough you can find good deals online if you look hard enough.  My latest brag is a 99% complete and perfect condition 3750 vintage ship for US$17!  With crew and bell!  Don't let price discourage you alone.  The only thing limiting my growing pirate fleet now is SPACE!

Don't worry, that house is in a northern state, not here, & my daughter is 26 years old now with my 3 year old grandson, so her angel is no longer seen by her :(!

HI

Its ok all somebody has to do is say they HATE the firemen or zoo theme and you will be right on track again  ;)

On the subject, I did buy all the new adventure themed sets and they were a great hit. They are getting a lot of play time here but the large reptiles did get pushed aside. Even a 5 year old know they look odd in that scale  :hmm:
