i think they look a little silly ,especially the small one ??? i prefer the old ones
-
I like them very much! They're just a different kind of monkey, or well, primate. Orangutans are actually apes not monkeys. (Okay, I'm a geek. :-[) Anyway, I think the adult is really cute and looks very much like a real orang! The baby could be more posable, but the pose it is in is very lifelike and I think it's cute.
The old ones you're referring to are the spider monkeys, I guess? http://playmodb.org/setpics/7897.jpg
-
Like you an ever have too many monkeys? And I insist on naming apes "monkeys"-
-
Sorry, I'm sort of an animal freak. :-[ I couldn't help myself.
-
I like them too.
Maybe, in time, they'll grow on you Alex.
-
i like all playmobil monkeys
when i saw the 'new' orangutan in a picture i thought it wasn't that good...but then i realized that (as it happens with many other sets) the box picture didn't do justice to it...now i have one and my zoo loves it :D
the baby orangutan doesn't convince me very much...it's not that small for him not to have movable legs or arms, even the baby gorilla can move!
it's good to see it now will come as an add-on
-
I think they are very cute! The orangutans have so much personality! You are not alone bb...
-
I just really wish they would do a dominant male oragutan, with a face like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pongo-Headshot.jpg
-
 Oh wow! I've never seen one like that before. I have a feeling that some people would like them even less if the PM version looked like that.
-
 Probably so! But that's what older males look like!

yes apes sorry  i prefer this one: (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/518Zr7DLCjL._SL500_AA300_.jpg)
and from monkeys i like the old ones better :(http://www.collectobil.com/images/items/3726.jpg)

Oh yes, the gorilla and the chimps! The gorilla is adorable! I do wish they had a smaller remale, though, rather than just a silverback male. I think the chimps are really cute, but they don't look enough like chimps. Wrong colours, and chimps don't naturally stand upright very often. They only walk around on two feet if humans have trained them to do that.

are you refering to someone from PF? :giggle: ;D
-
 Not unless one of our members is covered in red body hair!
-
regarding the chimps - i think it's the simplicity they originally designed them with, Bonnie.
I actually do like them, but i wish their head could move further up when they're on 4 feet

you know a lot about gorilas bonnie :o you work to the zoo?

Yeah, that's basically the only problem. I pose them doing the ape walk as they are, but they're always looking at the ground. Only other thing is I wish they were black all over, but they wouldn't look as appealing that way, probably. Honestly, I think real chimps are very creepy looking and I'm afraid of them. So PM's version is cuter!

No, I just spend a LOT of time there. I loooove learning about animals!

can you buy one and take it home? i guess that's illegal right?

some chimps do have flesh-colored faces (young ones i think?) and i think they look kind of cute like that, maybe that particular type of money was PM's inspiration
their face could be light brown/purple-ish to make it more realistic, but then again they wouldn't be as cute as they've always been

Have you ever seen a pygmy marmoset? So cute
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygmy_marmoset (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygmy_marmoset)
-
@ Luis: Yeah, the ones with flesh colored faces are cutw, but you don't see too many of them. Still, I think the pm ones are cute that way.
@ Alex: apes are wild animals, extremely strong, and can be unpredictable and dangerous. They are not good pets!

Those are really cute! I also really love tamarins, all kinds. I wish pm would make some!

oh they are dangerous... and monkes as well? i've seen monkeys as pets
-
People keep apes as pets, too, just like some people keep tigers as pets, thinking they are tame and will not harm them, but it's not a good idea.
-
No, it's not a good idea. Even if they are sweet, and you can develop a close bond, they are still capable of quite a bit of harm. I saw a show where a man had a chimp as a pet, and his face got mangled (that's the first place they attack when they are threatened). Even cats, who we all know are sweet as apple pie ;) can't conceal their wild side all the time.

oh !! in greece if they found a wildlife animal in your house they put you in jail .... even now it's not allowed to have chickens in your house because of bird flues etc... you get a fine i someone notises (no one will unfortunatly in greece   ) yes... you can't trust these animals it's in their nature to be wild :( (and they are so cute especially little tigers)
-
cub tigers are cute but they are pretty grumpy :0
i friend's friend worked at a zoo and we once had to take care of a baby tiger for a few hours, it was quite an experience :)

What is the difference between a monkey and an ape?? :eh?:
In Dutch we only use the word "aap" (= ape)...
-
They're just different species, but closely related.

i don't know either .. i think the monkey is the small one and the ape is the big one (gorilla) or i think they call them all apes and monkeys is only a species :)
-

Hmm... now I wonder... do I descend from an ape or from a monkey? ??? ;D
-
And I insist on naming apes "monkeys"-
Why?

a combination (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Others/others-094.gif)

Ok, we're way off topic, but without going to deeply into a scientific explanation of the differences, primates are divided into three categories, hominoids (better known as apes), monkeys (subcategorized into old world and new world monkeys), and prosimians (which include lemurs among other things.)
Apes are divided into two categories, great apes and lesser apes. The four species of great apes are orangutans, gorillas, chimps, and bonobos (also known as pygmy chimps.) There are 16 species of lesser apes, which most of us know as gibbons. These are the species with the distinctive broad shoulders and long arms that you see swinging hand over hand through trees for sustained periods of time. That mode of transport is called brachiating, and it is unique to gibbons. A monkey may swing from its hand occassionally, but they mostly move throught the trees by running along the branches.
End of science class. sorry for being off topic. :-[

Actually, we do have a word in Dutch for primate; it's "Mensaap" (Humanape or something like that). But it's hardly used anymore, so in a sense you are right.

I really like them. They are very cute and realistic (well, they look like the ones in our zoo - cheeky)
-
thanks for the explanation, Bonnie - i always thought chimps and bonobos were the same thing :eh?:
-
I'm sorry, I am not very fond of monkeys, apes, gorillas or simians of any kind... how horrible am I... :-\
-
You like cats, so you are okay in my book
-
I dont believe we are the descentants of chipantzees etc at all :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

I agree. ;)
So who's decendant are you then?
-
So who's decendant are you then?
''Life here... began out there''
-
A space monkey!
-
So who's decendant are you then?
If we got into that, we'd not only be off topic, but discussing a controversial issue, so maybe we should just leave this subject alone. ;)
-

hmmm.... i think probably we had the same ancestors ::) ::) ::)
-
Well, so far 13 people like the orangutans, and 6 don't. I thought they looked stupid when I first saw pics of them, but once I saw them in person, I loved them!
-
The only thing I do not like is the lack of posing
-
For the little one, yeah. But I find the mama to be a lot more posable than you'd think. She's well designed, and i've found many life-like ways to pose her.
-

Yes for the little one, I also do not like how cats, horses, cows, some dogs, the mercats etc.... do not pose I even want different mice seeing as they would be quite hard to make pose able
A diorama starts looking a bit to repetitive if all the animals are in the same stance. It really only takes slight variations to keep it unique and interesting on the eye
-
discussing a controversial issue
Off topic, so I'll keep it short: not so long ago this issue wasn't controversial anymore at all, but now some people are heading back to theories of hundreds of years ago. Just my :2c: ;)
Grtz, Darwin...Erwin ;D

I voted no, I prefer the old school monkeys, I don't even like the new Playmobil horses. Thanks to ageowns, I still cannot picture a Playmobil monkey without a beer mug in their hand
Hadoque, I guess the intelligent designers don't buy Playmobil dinosaurs ::)

I totally agree, Abbot! :)9 I'm pro old school monkeys!
-
The old monkey is much more cool! ...
(It's exactly like the horse talk. The old is more intelligent design, the new ones are to look more pretty but they are not so good to intelligent play, &c.)
If they go on like this where will we stop? :hmm: Playmobil will become barbie! :o
-
