Title: 4878 Robo Gang Truck combined with the 4320 RC module and 4879 Spy Camera
Post by: Wolf Knight on September 23, 2011, 19:32:45
Well, I could not resist for some reason... maybe because I never had a RC car as a kid... So i went ahead and ...

I have to admit, I never intended of getting this vehicle, but I guess I love playmobil too much, and also I was curious to see that all the fuss is about...

From the box pics, this looks more like a Transformer truck or a Cobra (as in GI Joe vs Cobra) vehicle, and I have a feeling Playmobil had Cobra in their mind when creating these Robo Gangsters...

anyway, lets get started...

First and foremost... those dreaded wheels and tires again  ::)...

second, the vehicle is supposedly carrying a satellite of some kind which has a new coloured flame ... although it falls easily from the exchaust so I had to replace it with one of the roman catapult flames...

perhaps the worts feature of the truck is this missile launcher on the door... one on each side... it is too much GI Joe like, as in later years GI Joe toys used this type of launchers to be fired with the snap and tip of a persons' finger...  ::)

The truck itself... in isometric views...

I has a brute appearance which I really like in a vehicle like that, and I am sure a kid between the ages of 7 to 12 will be thrilled with it... also an adult who is crazy about pick up trucks  :P

The wavy designs add a nice charactert to it...

and we have the slidding compartment with the satellite...

the satellite itself gives the opportunity to reaquaint ourselves with some of the old space parts....

the klickies...

:-\ I am not really sure what to think of them...

but the female, has an interesting hood around the neck that might be interesting to many people... the baseball helmet though is not appropriate in this case... and the hair is lovely

Finally, the doors open upwards... thats a nice touch, me thinks...

and ready for (evil) action  ;D

So there you have it.. the future of playmobil desing... good to attract older kids and it probably is as I see many shelves in toystores getting empty off these, but not very attractive to the adult collector.

You'll need a screwdriver to take the screws off...

and you need to place four AA batteries in the screen module and two in the AAA in the camera...

and we are ready to ''look and see''  ;D

Now for the RC module:

Remove the bottom lid of the vehicle, build the parts of the module and get ready to place it on the chasis

oh you'll need four AA batteris for that  ;D

Just be careful to place the antenna correctly,

and place the module in the chasis...

Now turn the vehicle on its proper place, pull out the chair next to the driver and place the camere in its place

You are hot and ready for action...

Now, I did practice with the camera and its fun, but I have not managed to understand how you download the videos on the PC...  :eh?:

But thats it for now!!!!   :)

You're probably right Baron, I especially dont like the Robo Gang logo all over the vehicle, but I guess they tried to do something like the Cobra Stinger (see attachment) so its like having written Cobra all over it...

Tahra, glad you liked it!!

It is a pretty cool vehicle! Thanks for reviewing it! Can't really see myself spending the money on this, but I'm glad they are popular with the kids. After all, if kids don't buy playmobil, there will be no more playmobil.

after three days trying to make it work I gave up  :-[ I believe this was a waste of money  :(.... But I will try again when I find the appetite...

---edit---

However, I did find it easier to drive the vehicle through the camera, than without it...

Yeah, they work fine indoors. ;D Though they are more fun outside on a driveway or in a parking lot, somewhere with a lot of concrete.

Depending on the OS you're running on your computer, users on KlickyWelt have reported different problems getting the camera work. If I find any I'll post solutions here. As far as I remember Vista gave them the worst problems.

As much as I like the idea of a RC PM vehicle (knowing myself I'll probably get the module in the future :hmm:), this particular set doesn't float my boat.
That car is just too GI Joeish for my tastes.

I think it's pretty neat that you can put the camera in the vehicle and get a driver's eye view and control the vehicle that way.

I just wish the individual components were less expensive.  I know you get some good quality with Playmobil, but the RC module has always seemed overly expensive to me.  Then to get the camera on top of it ...  It just puts it way out of the price range of most children (and they are the ones who will be wanting it).

Nice review, Panos!
I have to say that I'm not very fond of that set. Although, frankly, I'm not very fond of the entire top agents theme. (http://planetsmilies.net/tongue-smiley-8883.gif) (http://planetsmilies.net)

Thanks for the excellent, excellent review, Panos!

I love the way the truck looks, but it's the missiles on the doors that spoil it for me. What do the doors look like without them? (If they are removable) Is there anything that can fill the hole?

Ooooh I really really want one now 8} 8} 8}

The hole in the door becomes a system X hole, quite annoying

Ras is right, its a system x hole that I am not sure how to fill...  maybe a sticker would be a solution, but beter be one that over just the hole.

Panos,
Great review of a very cool car!
I bought most of the RoboGang set yesterday and love it! Am customizing the station into a seaside chalet with spare SysX parts.
Love the boat and the cars...wish they were not quite so gadget oriented, but most of the gadgets come off.
The driver of the white car is really a nice looking dude, and the the other figures are just fine. Cheers, Pgal

Maybe you could make a review or do you have some pictures of the boat. I did not buy these sets yet, with the exception of the robolab, and I'm very curious about the size of the boat, the gadgets, how the klicky fit in etc.
