Here are the pictures I promised. Box first...
The text on the back reads...
"I have made toys my life study... there is solid satisfaction in dealing with childhood playthings and in knowing of the joy one is sending out into the hearts of the little ones..." - Frederick August Otto Schwarz
My impressions... the box is fantastic it may look better than the figure itself... the color is burgundy and very FAO.
It could have been improved if they had made it a window box with a formed plastic tray for the figure to sit in assembled but we are really splitting hairs to find improvements for the box.

Now the figure itself.

I WANT SOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reused parts, nothing spectacular but I do like the way it comes together, and the spiffy red stripe on the pants. It would have been nice if they had included a sword or a gun for the toy soldier as most toy soldiers do in fact have guns, but he is still pretty cool... and I am sure I can find him a gun or sword somewhere... now they need to make a rat king for him to save the ballerina from...
-
Just going to point out to anyone buying these... the FAO.com website has them for $4.99 each, they are listed at $6.99 each on the TRU.com site, and coupons don't seem to work on them as the are special/limited figures.

Thanks for the review and pictures. It looks cool.

I must have missed your promise :eh?: What exactly is this set? I mean its lovely and I certainly want a few of it, and I also understnad the occasion for this production, but cannot understand the connection between Schwarz and Playmobil ???
-
Thanks for sharing. I just ordered some myself.
-
A very nice figure indeed. Thanks for reviewing it.
-
yes I did not know of this either. I will be getting some now that I am back in town.

This was first mentioned in this thread: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=11373.0 It's a set that has shown up (and since disappeared) on the toys r us website. (TRU is affiliated with FAO schwartz). It's part of their 150th anniversary celebration. Perhaps they are producing the iconic toy soldier in conjunction with several different toy companies?
-
Thanks for the pictures. I too will be ordering a few for myself :)
-
It is still on FAO's site here (http://www.fao.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12945089)
I will be putting in an order for these and will get free shipping so if anybody wants some also let me know.

Panos, I googled FAO SCHWARTZ and it seems they have two stewards dressed like this soldier at the entrace of their shop in NYC. That's the reason for the choice of the figure if that's what you wondered.
Otherwise, PM can make a special edition figure when asked, providing you can order around 20 000 units, from what I was told.

Thanks for the aditional input, Arnaud! I had an impression this type of figure was based on a Schartz design, but I did not know that playmobil accepts special edition orders... then again, what are all those special issued klickies we've seen in various historical sites and anniversaries for...
-
Oh... True, nothing really spectacular.. but... WANT. :)
Thanks for the pics!

Hi Ras,
Would it be possible to send one of these guys (+ box) to Belgium?
I'd be happy to pay OR trade something!
If you're interested, just let me know.
Erik
