Title: A Question for Hardcore Collectors.
Post by: David on November 25, 2005, 15:33:20

I was lucky and heard that an exclusive was being given at the German Direct Service with every order for a short time, if one had a certain flyer. I didn´t have one, but phoned the DS and pleaded, grovelled, cried, wheedled and begged, until the sickened lady I spoke to promised me one with my next order.

 I´ve got it! Yay!

Now, should i put the  figure in its unopened plastic in a box, or cupboard,  away from sunlight? Should I unpack it and display it with my other few rarities? Should I give it to my son, who just might customise it?

Serious advice welcome :)

I'd display it ... I have a few 'rarities' that I don't let the little guy play with, and he knows those are "Mommy's Playmos"  Of course, they're also displayed with some of the customs I've done  ;D

I do have a silver knight that came with the museum (he's the only piece I have of that set), and he's displayed with my mother's fine silver 8}

I think it should be displayed in a light tight, air proof box.  So people can see it, fit one of those wide angle lenses people fit in their doors with a light tight cover over it which can be swung away for viewing purposes.

This is what a hardcore collector would do.  Otherwise, you're just a dabbler. ;D

Hmm... Let me put it this way: I will place mine sealed and out of the sun
into my "limited edition - rare stuff"-box...
But I am not sure if this is a tactic that makes sense...  :hmm:

They will raise in value, but they will never be worth a fortune, and even
if, to benefit from it, you would have to sell it... So there is no point to be
too keen on it as long as it is not YOU, who is the hardcore collector!  ;)

I usually try to get such items twice... One for my box and one for display.
But in the case of this one, I placed only one order as well...  :D

best regards,
socrates

That's a thoughtful reply, Socrates, appropriate to your name.

I like Gordon's idea of displaying it under a special light (like a museum piece). You can even put him on a klicky sized pedestal. (Very cool knight btw.)

Yes, like Gordon said - but don't forget to use a powered roatating dsiplay so it turns slowly around.  ;D

Hmmm... perhaps you should make sure the display box is thermostatically controlled too, so that the temperature and humidity stays at the same level all year round? ;D

If I had one of these knights I would probably keep it in the plastic bag for the time being because I don't have anywhere suitable to display figures at the moment.

But you do have plenty of shelving, so I think you should open the bag and display him with the other special klickies that you have in your cellar (http://www.gardenwargaming.com/armies/dhamer/surprise.html)! ;)

David,
You should be it in a light proof box, sealed from the elements and then send it on away to me  :P

Its a very cool knight.
Too bad, US DS does not do things like that.

Sorry Meg, it´s too late. I weighed the sage opinions offered here and rent the plastic wrapping, ( simultaneously giving my Tarzan call ). ;D

He´s visiting cousins at the moment, I snapped them breakfasting together.

Gordon, I´ll have to admit I´m merely a dabbler

Ha!  Just as I thought! ;D

I like the pic, though it seems to be a fairly liquid breakfast.

They are all getting along nicely, too nicely

I think you snapped this before any one of them had even a sip to drink.
Probably the best time for a photo of everyone getting along.

So that's what that was! I though the cat was coughing something up. :)

Wonderful photo Guarrenzino. But I'm a bit worried about cousin Klatuu there...he's looking a bit under the weather. Too many brews perhaps?  ;)

Ah yes, Cousin Klatuu, he won the  Yard of Ale Drinking Contest  down at `The Bag o`Ferrets,´ last night. He didn´t touch his gruel at breakfast.

You`re right Meg, here`s another pic,  it`s livening up a bit.  They´ve finished their gruel and dry bread, now they´re washing it down..

Great! It looks like they have fun...

I love the details you added to the scene, especially the metal lid
and the ornaments on the orcs helmet...
Just out of curiousness, is it by purpose that the visor of the orc
is vice versa...?

Can't wait to get mine... But I guess they got a lot of last minute
orders at the german DS... ;)

best regards

I am surprised that the mouse is still on his (or her) feet.

I knew the party of the cousins would become rowdy

That's a good looking figure, I hope we get a chance to get one with our DS orders next year.

I'm just wandering how long he will stay in one piece now that you have opened him before you need apart of him for a custom figure for a photo story. ;D

 Hi Socrates,
I turned cousin Klatuu´s visor upsidedown for a better view of his lovely face.  :yup:

Yes, Sir Gary I keep looking at him and wonder what i could do with him, my hands are itching too ;D

I´m afraid you´re right Meg, they have become rather rowdy ::)

I knew it would all end in tears.  These things do.

LOL! Great pics! :)9
The wolf knight on the right has overdone it so much he's positively legless. :o

I am surprised that the mouse is still on his (or her) feet.

Do you think it's been licking up the spills from the keg? I hear that guinea pigs (http://www.playkingdoms.com/pk/cards/pics/canimal03.jpg) like yourself enjoy a strong drink occasionally too. :P

guinea pigs are larger than mice and can  hold their liquor better.   :P

So maybe we should be the Ninja Guinea Pigs???

I love the fellow just drinking out of the barrel! (Maybe a cousin of mine?  :hmm:  Things may have gotten rowdy but they are all still smiling. That's the main thing! :D

Discussion went a little random after Rob's post (but in a good way! ;)) so I split it and made a new topic:

Through David's cellar window (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=290.0) ;D
