playkingdoms' Xmasy dio 2015 - a slice of town

Well... today I FINALLY finished the dio pages. Hey, xmas is whenever we want! :-[

So, here it is...

This is the first dio in the playmoroom (well, not counting the romanish fort - LINK (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=13217.0) - in its very incomplete state).

Features also my first system X building.

Possible making of after...

I can't believe how long it took me. Really. The VERY FEW people who saw it loved it, but they are not playmonuts (they even got genders wrong! )

Anyways...

The dio itself (picture heavy pages - duh): playkingdoms' Xmasy dio 2015 - a slice of town (http://www.playkingdoms.com/pk2/museum/dios/2015xmasy/2015xmasy1.aspx)

Finally the site has an update!  :confetti:

Feel free to comment... hopefully next one will be better...

So far.. lessons learned:
Hope you like it!

Love it! And yes, we've discussed this whole idea of how it can be anytime of the year that we want it to be in playmoland. I love all of the various little details you add, like all of the school children from the bus wearing the same hat, and then the Animal Shelter's fundraising campaign.  It's very detailed!  And I'm sure I'll look through it multiple times to see what I missed.

That's a huge amount of work! Very well photographed and a ton of fun scenes within it!

Sooo beautiful!

Perfect!

It´s after midnight and I am terribly tired from packing all your Heinrich der Loewe parcels, but I can´t stop looking at these pictures.

I love it! Really love it!

Off to bed now!  ;)

Wonderful diorama, lots of great details! Very inspiring. Are the reindeer glued in place? Mine flop around terribly, even on the ground.

It's brilliant!  So much thought has gone into it; there's so much to see; so many clever details (right down to rubbish in the bins); and so beautifully photographed too.  I loved all of it, but these are my very favourite parts:

- The bikers
- The schoolchildren in their matching orange hats
- The older schoolteacher
- The birds eating the discarded food
- The flowers on the rubbish bin
- The lights on the trees
- The water under the bridge (it really looks like it's flowing)
- The bottles with bottle tops
- The WC sign
- The big Christmas tree
- The flying Santa sleigh and the struggling elf
- The 'Is that a Yes?' couple
- The statues with lights, and one with a pigeon on its head
- All the various types of food people are eating
- The Christmas tree in Jim's Café
- The dogs' drinking bowls
- The dolphins
- The unexpected 'visitors from very far away'

Looking at all this has been a wonderful way to start the day!

Awesome diorama, well done. The water is very good and love all the details in it. With so much going on there is still lots of space and I liked the alley scene with the cats and the fence between the buildings, a peaceful respite from the busy seaside goings on. Is the elf in the sleigh trying to stop the box falling off or is he sending it down gravity express?  ??? ;D
Will have to go back and look at it all a couple of times to see everything there.

What a wonderfull dio! So much detail and so much thought went into it. I really love the wc sign!  ;D
And for a first, your system x building looks great!
I wonder what's underneath it all, i mean what's under the streets.
Oh, and that worn wood at the other side of the bridge.
And where comes that notepad with pencil holder in the caretaker's office come from?

Thank you :)

I love all of the various little details you add, like all of the school children from the bus wearing the same hat, and then the Animal Shelter's fundraising campaign.

Kids were like that in ancient sets - and after abandoning the idea of a full uniform (boring) I decided for matching hats and backpacks. Orange + yellow is the classic approach :)  (in the case of the backpack, would be the only option, I don't think we have others in numbers)

That "bell thing" from the school reminded me of Santas asking for money. It would have to be a worthy cause. So there :)  (it is embarassing the time it took me to do the signs/leaflets  :-[ )

Are the reindeer glued in place? Mine flop around terribly, even on the ground.

No. We are stupid that way. No glue allowed. There is that white thingy to put posters on walls? For the signs (Jim's + bathroom) and the birds that are perching here and there). No named birds are perching like that. I was afraid the thing would mess up the names...

The reineers ARE attached to a structure my dad made (I had a different idea, but then he figured another way) to be able to hang it... I am confused about the way they are supposed to fit in the harnesses. I am ALMOST sure in the first box we had they were like this. Which means the lead one doesn't easily fit there. I had to make up a custom piece for it  :-[

(right down to rubbish in the bins);

;D I messed that up several times in the house!

and so beautifully photographed too.

Thank you. Really. It is not a strong point with me... and worse, I dislike taking pics...  :-[

- The bikers

At least where I live, the bikers always do a "parade" as Santas, taking toys somewhere.. as soon as it was decided that there would be a recent scene, that was in.

- The schoolchildren in their matching orange hats
- The older schoolteacher

Kids in "classic look" (see above).. And the teacher was the kept version of the figure.. I think she REALLY looks like a teacher - you know, the stereotype.

- The birds eating the discarded food

Based in real events. All the birds are. Actually, there are FAR too few of them to match reality.

- The flowers on the rubbish bin

I wanted more color... and found out those fit there...

- The lights on the trees

That was one of the first things too - the fairy lights look great, imo. And when we turn off the lights, there's these bright spots...

- The water under the bridge (it really looks like it's flowing)

Water was a lot harder than I imagined. My sister helped with that - and fortunately was a lot handier at it than me! But it proved a lot more complicated than I thought!

And fortunately, looks really good, especially in pics.. though the "joins" kinda show.

- The bottles with bottle tops

Uhm?

- The WC sign

REAL one, that I ADORED, in London - near that wheel thing.  When I figured I'd need to make a custom one, I decided to go for that one, instead of a boring one  ;D

- The big Christmas tree

When I put one of the existing ones near the rest of the trees.. well... meh. So after consultation with my sister, I spent the rest of that day poking holes in a pine tree...

- The flying Santa sleigh and the struggling elf

The sled was among the first decisions.. to have a present almost falling was my sister's idea...

- The 'Is that a Yes?' couple

Tom-Cruise and Nicole-Kidman, I think...

- The statues with lights, and one with a pigeon on its head

The metal ones are the LAF klickys.... with the CALHAU (something like "rock")...

- All the various types of food people are eating

A LOT from sylvanian.

- The Christmas tree in Jim's Café

I wanted to put a xmas tree in one of the "houses"... didn't fit :(

- The dogs' drinking bowls

Civilized countries. We saw that MANY places in Germany when we went for the PCC tour.

- The dolphins

The initial idea called for river cruises..  No space :(  Then I figured dolphins. They appear in the rivers here sometimes... so ... why not?

- The unexpected 'visitors from very far away'

There was supposed to be a fantasy element somewhere on that wall... which became rocks.. when I went to the fairy box, they were there... well....

(gah, I blab :-[ )

They are not bottle tops?

Ah, those... I have that thing for ages - I collect Coca-Cola junk - and though it's a bit big, it kinda works if it's not standing next to a klicy :)

It's all one piece, btw, the bottles...

Oooooh my!! It's wonderful  :D  :D  :D Well worth the wait, as others have mentioned  ;D

All those adorable scenes... Thanks for taking so many pictures, I love the fact that it feels as though I'm there to discover it all myself. I agree you've done a perfect job with the photos. And the stuff you used for the ground and the water, wow, it looks very life-like. Lovely  Not to mention the walls of the city with the street lights hanging from them and the stairs and bridge etc... It's Playmobil through-and-through! And the plants below on the water's edge, and the water fall on the side, it all looks amazing.

The three guys taking a picture in front of the statue is one of my favourite details, plus all the animals. You've nailed it!!
And there are so many custom clickies that I like. I adore the market and the details from Sylvanian here and there, it all blends in so well.
Great job on the custom system-X house, by the way.

And is that a bit of seagull droppings that I spot there on the roof, or is that a lucky coincidence?  ;D
I love the fact that the houses are furnished and decorated on the inside, an absolute must!  :) And with a Playmoroom!!!

Thank you ;)

You are of course welcome, but I'm afraid it may prove a too long trip :(

And the stuff you used for the ground and the water, wow, it looks very life-like. Lovely

Towels, bought on those chinese stores. Had to cut the water - didn't find more :(  The larger one.. well... removing the fold marks was not really successful :(

Not to mention the walls of the city with the street lights hanging from them and the stairs and bridge etc... It's Playmobil through-and-through!

We LOVE those lights since we got them (weekend house?) - and since I bought some more, well... HAD to use them.

The bridge was actually the very first thing - everything followed that. I ALWAYS wanted to do a bridge. Shame it can't be longer. No room :(

And the plants below on the water's edge, and the water fall on the side, it all looks amazing.

Thank you. The waterfall was my sister's idea, and execution. I helped ;)

The three guys taking a picture in front of the statue is one of my favourite details, plus all the animals.

Well, this time I figured the CALHAU would have a place of distinction, instead of just lying about in the background, like it did on the romanish fort. That is why I didn't redo the whole wall to use those Playmoebius statues things.... The CALHAU wouldn't fit!

We like animals ;)  I thought we had too many pigeons. We do not (especially those GORGEOUS dark grey ones!). And far too few seagulls. Last friday there were DOZENS and DOZENS of seagulls around in a plaza! Along with pigeons, of course.

Great job on the custom system-X house, by the way.

It is so freaking hard! AND not half as fun. It wasn't supposed to be this big, actually... Apparently I have that problem with System X too. But then I don't have the amount of parts or knowledge I do with steck... (like FREAKING STAIRS! :-[ )

And is that a bit of seagull droppings that I spot there on the roof, or is that a lucky coincidence?  ;D

My sister's idea. It wouldn't really be doable to do that EVERYWHERE, but... well, a convenient location... chosen for it!

I love the fact that the houses are furnished and decorated on the inside, an absolute must!  :) And with a Playmoroom!!!

Yeah, that was a struggle. I don't really much like the dollhouse part, and I'm not really good at it. Having a tiny slice of houses didn't help (on the other hand, we can assume the complicated parts are all in the REST of the houses. You know, bathrooms, kitchens, STAIRS....  :P ). My sister was a great help with the (half) restaurant, especially...  I had some stuff picked out for rooms, then had to combine them.... And finding the darn things proved.. difficult. With several changes of mind along the way....... as usual.

Sorry, made a mess of replies, and jumped these.  :-[  Apologies.

Is the elf in the sleigh trying to stop the box falling off or is he sending it down gravity express?  ??? ;D

He's trying to preventing it from falling! (not obvious from the text?)

I wonder what's underneath it all, i mean what's under the streets.

In the making of, if it sees the light of day...

Oh, and that worn wood at the other side of the bridge.

:) Cheap towel... tablecloth? Not cloth though  8}

And where comes that notepad with pencil holder in the caretaker's office come from?

Sylvanian.. not sure where... we have several.... Maybe the pizza set?

I just went to have another look  ;D

The visitors from far away are a great touch too, I forgot to mention them.

Do you know which sets have the dark grey pidgeons? They are new to me.

We can't make trips for the time being, with Freya taking a dislike to the special seat for the car and her refusal to drink from bottles (which means we are somewhat attached to the hip - or chest, in this case). We avoid long drives as much as possible. But a trip to Portugal is on our list of things to do as soon as possible!!!  :)

According to playmodb, a couple of advents: link (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?title=Sets%20containing%2030%2026%201710%20%28Dove/pigeon,%20wings%20folded%29;setlist=4152,4166)

We don't have any of those... So, parts, I think... and another from LuxPlaymodays - one of those crates with lose stuff... Need some more, actually.

But a trip to Portugal is on our list of things to do as soon as possible!!!  :)

:) We're all looking forward to it!

AND, I think I didn't mention (here) that the ATM machine was added after seeing Tiermann's great dio (link (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=15303.0)) - I hadn't thought of that :-[

Forgot to mention how much I loved that Playmoroom - though of course it is too small as they always are.

I believe I spotted the dark grey pigeon in one of the upcoming Princess sets for 2016 so it should be available from Parts Department in the next year.

The one with closed wings shows as available on iberia... That is the ones we need more of, I believe - though I wouldn't mind having a couple more dark grey ones...

(the ones around the friend are FAR too few...)

It may have taken ages to complete but, it's very nice well worth the effort and good commentary I might add. Far to many good things to mention but, the bikers with their sacks were a good touch, the statues both chrome klickies and white knights  the giant Christmas trees and the colourful gravel round the little ones, even the river looks great with what you've sued for water and lining it with pebbles and using corals as little islands of plants great idea. Good to see everyone having a good time and enjoying all the different kinds of food and good to see all your avatars present Queen Tahra looks great making her elegant entrance  :) great job  :)9

The "chrome" are the LAF silver klickys... They have been residing in the fairy tub, and I knew I wanted them there. Flanking the CALHAU was a later decision ;)

The water was a challenge...

I'm a fan of it all ;D

I meant visitors in the playmoroom - not many of those.... Still expect a couple more.... but that's about it.

Why is there no Krampus Playmobil figure???

That's a great idea. It parts of the US Krampus seems on course to "Halloweenize" Christmas, so by bringing out a figure PM could steal a march on the trend.

Wonderful.  I love hospital scenes.  And the chest/body bandage ... a custom made torso?  Or something I overlooked somewhere?  Looks great anyway.  And the poor sorry elf .... I hope he is forgiven!

Nope, the silly bandaged mummy from figures... 1? 2?

Looks great anyway.

Thank you :)

Yeah, hope so... He is slightly calmer -  I suppose he vented his frustration on the others before  >:D - but still quite upset over this...

One part to go (but nothing about it done yet, I'm afraid  ::) )

A very happy ending. Really an elf could drop a box on me any time if that's how it turns out.
Great story.

Clear away on diorama...and start the next??

This is a gift for you, sir...

Oh, brilliant - I didn't expect that as the end, and it is so wonderfully presented with the ribbon tied around it.  Happy ending.  Made me smile lots.  And I love all the different cars in the background too.

(Any dio I do is quite unlikely (impossible!) to have a bad ending. I freaking hate that... and playmobil is not really... adequate to violence, IMO... I mean, they use all that to pick flowers, right? and the meat grows in the trees.... and so on  :P )

This was the planned end when it became a "series"... the added part was the elf chasing the others with the stick..

And the heli rescue came about because there really was no space to put an ambulance (or 2)... And no space to land the heli either... so...
