Title: A Playmobil Porsche 911
Post by: Giorginetto on February 12, 2012, 15:57:26
The most iconic German sports car  is without a doubt the Porsche 911. First made in 1963 , its latest incarnation was debuted a couple of months ago

Given also that Playmobil is an iconic german toy with almost 40 years presence in the market now, what better than to combine these two and make a Playmobil Porsche  911. I think this would be a great idea and i really hope Playmobil takes that into consideration.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I doubt an official porsche will ever be made by PM because of political connotations, though they might make something that looks a lot like one in generic form perhaps?

Why not  ??? ??? ???   There was a Porsche 911 in the movie ' Cars' - A light blue version of the 996 Carrera model with Carrera Wheels....

Isn't there a whole association with a certain former axis power leader's involvement in Porsche/Volkswagen that PM would like to steer completely clear of?  Do correct me if I'm wrong please (I'm only going off un-researched grapevine tidbits I've read here and there).

 ??? ??? ???
PM did something  similar with BMW whose involvement was much bigger during WWII.....  The VW Beetle that was deisgned by FA Porsche was in the 30s and is a  flower revolution / hippy symbol  of the 60s also !!!  :) :) :)

:) maybe a lamborghini countach would do the trick - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_Countach.
;) it has butterfly doors (like the mercedes 300 sl) and the company is now german-owned.

I wish people would let go of the past. We can learn from what we did wrong, but bringing it back to light with political reasons is not healthy. The German people are still stereo typed by many, generations after what happened, & as time goes by less & less people that actually lived through those horrific memories are no longer alive, but their children & generations down the line, are still made to live in the shadows of what someone else did. We don't want to ever forget the mistakes that were made, but there comes a time in history that forgivness is to be given, & the acts of cruelty forgotten, severing ties with any company that was associated with those times even decades later is not a healing measure. If you look at most TV's, many are made by corporations that built war machines for the Japanese cause, but we don't say don't associate with them for what their involvement during the war was. Double standards.

you are so right bill.
3 generations after the end of the war we should be able to forgive but not forget.

Bill is absolutely right. I want to remind all also that i started this threat as a suggestion for playmobil and my casue was noble and sincere given my true love for Playmobil and for Porsche . I think references to WWII are irrelevant to this threat and i want to suggest to foucs the conversation back to my proposal

So assuming that Playmobil created a nice playmo 911 in that beatiful latest   911 shape

http://www.porsche.com/international/models/911/911-carrera-s/gallery/# (http://www.porsche.com/international/models/911/911-carrera-s/gallery/#)

what color do you think it should be ? I think all the classic Porsche colors should be available - like the many colors of the playmo z4-  i.e.  red, white , black , grey and without a doubt green !!!

That is a smashing idea George! It could be done as a collectors version through Porsche! The Z4 concept was accepted quite well, so it's my opinion that a Porsche 911 which is a bench mark in the automobile racing world, would be warmly accepted also!

but it's not us collectors (myself included) who are saying don't associate with the past reference....it's PM who doesn't want the stigma, right?  Isn't that why we're not even allowed to post customs of WWII warcraft made from PM toys?

Yeah but I don't think anyone much associates those car companies with that era anymore, so surely it wouldn't be an issue.

An oldstyle 70's VW-van would be the most appropriate for that.

other than LGB, PM never makes toys that require licensing of an outside company's design anyway, so they could still get away with making a generic PM version of any vehicle (or real life or movie character), including a very Porsche-esque car without it actually being an official Porsche.

Well the idea here is that this 911 is made with licence / collaboration with Porsche, just like PM did with BMW some years agao with the Z4 / Herpa car. Given that 911 has its 50th birthday next year  this would be perfect timing if you ask me    . A 911 like car wouldnt mean a think. Playmobil created a Ferrari 348 convertible 'look alike' in the late 80s

http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3708.htm (http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3708.htm)

The similarities to the 348 were all there, but that set went unoticed . I wonder how many more sets it would  have sold if there was a Ferrari badge in it. There is a massive market for 1:18 cars out there , i am pretty certain a 911 Playmobil would sell very well . I would buy a dozen to say the least

I am not sure if that was through BMW or Herpa or both, as there was a Herpa logo on those boxes and Herpa manufactures 1:18 etc car models . These Playmo/Herpa  sets were sold through the BMW dealers when i was in the UK at some point and i know for a fact that one of  the BMW UK official dealerships ( in Farnborough)  would give to any Z4 buyers with kids one of these as a present.

Anyways , i did sent a letter to Playmobil and i will update if i have an answer...  :)

And there was another Herpa playmocar later, right?

Maybe a mercedes? (Sorry, I know nothing of cars)

Does anyone have it? I THINK I have the first repeats.... and I'd love a trade. Of course, THIS TIME I'd settle for one (or two  :-[ ) colors... instead of all of them.  ::)

I thought the herpa car only came with a klicky but geobra had nothing to do with the manufacturing or distribution. It was a clever trick to keep out of the licensing b.s.

Mr b is to smart of a business man to share with anyone giving him total controll of his creation AKA playmobil

I thought members thought the new white sports car looked like a Porsche ?

Around here the 911 is very common so I prefer the unique gullwing Benz.

Now if geobra made the classic 959 group B, or the super quatro coupe . Now there is a sports car with 1000 HP.

959 is a lovely car but not that many people know it. The 911 is the most iconic sports car in the world as it has been around since 1964 and i think it woukd make sense to make it.

Actually not that long ago I sent an email to Geobra about my suggestion / idea along with my arguments for it.  :) :) :) :)

Yes George, your insatiable appetite for a 911 is why we have one. Now if geobra will only make you a Nuremberg guard the balance of the world would be restored.  :xmascheer:

It is fun to think how our suggestions might influence them though. I have plenty of examples how this happens to many members., even myself  :-[

Keep those ideas and request flowing  :sleigh:
