Medieval Tavern or Bar
« on: September 29, 2008, 21:39:01 »
Hi Friends,

I'm interested in making some sort of Medieval Tavern using steck.  I'll most likely use tudor style housing pieces for the outside.  I was wondering if you might have suggestions for the interior (or exterior).  I was trying to think of what I could use for the bar counter.  It doesn't seem like the western saloon counter would look quite right.

Also maybe someone could point me to some images of similar customs someone has already done?  I've searched around but can't seem to find any custom taverns.

I haven't got picturs, but I remember people using 2 or 3 of the

30 25 2250 - Boat docks, wooden, L-shaped

to make a counter customized to fit their tavern.....

Of course that inculded some saw-work but the results were pretty convincing.

For the base I think it could also have been the parts from the tournament sets, like

30 24 8880 - Jousting wall

Maybe you could use those as well, but as I've already said: Sorry, no pictures except for those in my head.

I'm wondering why the western bar wouldn't be OK. Counters served much the same function then as now, is it just the style?

There's an episode of Brother Cadfael called St Peter's Fair with one scene in a tavern - I could take a look tonight and see what the counter looks like. The series is set in Shrewsbury on the English-Welsh border in the 1140s.

Those are intriguing ideas Playmofool.  Thanks for that.

Martin, I was thinking that the overall design might be a bit to fancy for a rustic old tavern.

I honestly don't even have that piece though so it's not like I could put it in the scene and give it a try.  That's why I'm trying to get some ideas, so I can figure out what pieces I need to pick up.  :)

I agree with Martin

The Bar from the saloon you showing is very neutral

fits in almost any setting

from Romans to modern life

just my two cents
One picture say's more then a thousand words ;)

Fair enough.  I guess I have to try and track the piece down or at the very least the set it's included in :)

I think that would fit fine if you can get one - carpentry, along with masonry, was something the medieval world excelled at. The counter isn't overtly fancy, those front panels would be well within their capabilities.

That is what I did ,

If you like building with Steck , it has some nice steck parts in it
I until now never had the time to explore the effect from the big window a bit more but I bet it would look lovely

The Klickies included are worth it too

one of those klickies used to be an avatar from someone very wonderfull

defenitly a set to pursue

if you ask me ;)

I would imagine if push came to shove that barrels could be used as a base for the counter, like in the pirate set 4292.

I finally found the picture I'd talked about. It's supposed to be in 19th century Germany next to a magnificent brewery .

Still, the style could work for a medieval tavern as well .

Greeting and thanks  :wow: go to meermaid on Klickywelt. For pictures of the brewery (Brauerei) you should really have a look if you're registered and haven't seen them yet.

Maybe you feel inspired by the picture.
