4265 Burglary - Juwelenraub
« on: August 10, 2008, 19:01:14 »
Hi folks... it has been a long time since I did a review...
This time I managed to take some pictures right after the first playing with the set, and I would like to give you at least a short review of this marvellous set, which I really like and would have loved as a kid also...

The set comes with two burglars (one male, one female) that come with a lot of fancy equipement to break into a display case with a obviously very valuable antique crown, the crown of Karl August XI. (which might refer to Charles XI of Sweden?). Additionally, the set comes with a antique portrait of the king on a tripod.

The special thing about this set is an electronic alarm that starts whenever the glass top of the display case is removed. So the burglars have to cut the top open with the glass cutter and have to pull the crown from the top of the case. for this reason there is already a counterpart for the glass cutter in the crystal case.

The equipement consists of:
- a glass cutter (a new part with the top of the plumbers special)
- a rope with hooks (known fron the pirate ships)
- a fishing rod (I had one of those as a kid a looong time ago...)
- a wrecking bar (as far as I know, it is not a new piece...)
- a big opened sack (as the new christmas santa has...)

so here are the pors and cons about the set:

PRO:
- the set has a great value for setting up a deep and thoughtful burglary scenario...
(my thiefs were so sophisticated and only the incidently spotted robe made them caught... ;) )
- the glass cutting thingie is really cool. you place the center pin into a small hole in the plastic, tight enough to hold the cutter...
- it is fun for every age. you can make the game really difficult if you start fishing with your klickies, but just the same kids can manage to steal the crown without setting up the alarm. The design is (as always) as simple as effective: the glass top enters the main body with two pins. one of them is turning on the alarm whenever moved inside or outside the body.
- its just a beautiful setup, getting a special place in my permanent display.

CONS:
- there is no screw or something to replace the battery, in other words: it is intended to dump the case when the battery runs low... :(
(well, it will be possible to change the battery, for that I am sure...  8-) )
- I already posted the new international sets for the police theme, and I disliked that they did not put some international stickes for the display case with the set. They would have done it some years ago... ;)
(something like CHARLES XI, CARLOS XI etc...)

Thanks for the piccies and review, Socrates.

Although thanks to you, I'm now at a complete loss. I always thought it would be a cool set; but not for me since it doesn't fit in any theme I collect.

But now, I am not that sure anymore ...  :-[

Thanks Socrates!

Excellent review, Socrates, and the pictures are great too.

I think the wrecking bar is new.  There was one with some of the dino sets, part number 30 51 2590.  This one seems to be shorter and more curved.  Do you have the part number, please?

Gordon, you are right, I was confusing these two.
The DS-number is 30 29 0110 and it is not yet listed in playmodb...

I really like the looks of this set, and with the review I am certain I will want one. It's a great concept and should do really well for them.

Thanks for the review and preview Socrates.

I am really excited about this little gem of a set.  It has a great cinematic quality to it, as your pics demonstrate.  Very original of Playmo on this one.

Loves it.

Thanks, Socrates. No doubt it soon will be on PlaymoDB knowing Heather!
