Disappointing Photo Contest
« on: May 17, 2016, 11:18:50 »
I entered a photo contest on another Playmobil forum, & the results were exciting to watch, as there was a consistent tie happening. The final results were 5 entries: 2 got 9 votes each, & 3 got 7 votes each. An obvious tie all around. Today the winners were announced. One of the 9-votes was declared a winner, the other 9-votes was called for 2nd, & one of the 7-votes was 3rd. No explanation of why the tie votes were not recognized, & no explanation of how someone determined who the winners were by these votes.

I had no expectations of winning this contest, but it now strikes me as being unfair. Why enter a contest if the votes are going to be ignored & a winner announced based on some unexplained rationale? This will be the last contest I enter on that forum. Call it a draw or call for a re-vote on the top 2 who tied. GRRRR!!!!!  >:(

Have you asked for an explanation?

No, I'm just going to forget the whole thing.

The next contest on this forum has the theme "outdoors." Yesterday I went to a local forest & set-up a Playmobil camping scene for photographs. In the process, I had an accident & fell down the side of a cliff. I got pretty banged up & hit my head on a tree. I carried on & got the photos, but am not happy with them. Today I'm sore & have a headache, & I got no decent photos out of the deal.

Normally I wouldn't care, but now I wonder if it's worth going through that much effort, time, & trouble to enter one of their contests, only to perhaps find myself tied for first place & to not win with no explanation given.

This is what happens when you're on a forum that's not Playmofriends!  ;D

This is the only usable photo from yesterday, & it's pretty awful. Of course, by this point I had my cracked my head & was aching badly, so I wasn't in the mood!  :P

Now, I'm actually off to the doctor to see about my head & bruises.  :wave: Happily, I've now vented & feel better. TX!  :lol:

That's a lovely sunny picture  :) I really like the sausage on a stick over the fire  ;D

You shouldn't fall down cliffs for photocontests though  :lol: I hope you're okay!

I just meant that maybe there is an explanation that would have the results make more sense, but they just didn't clarify.

 :) Actually, I did ask them how they decided who the winner was, while expressing the idea that the outcome was overall unfair. The moderator(s) probably has/have the final say when it comes to ties, though I don't know.

I think it should've been handled differently, but it's not my forum nor my call, so I'm just leaving it there.

While falling down cliffs to get a photo of nesting endangered eagles might just be acceptable, falling down them for Playmobil that is perfectly happy to sit still for you wherever you put it is perhaps excessive.  ;) Hope your head gets better quickly  8}

Hope you are OK after your fall.

I think that you deserve an award for Making One Of Those Yellow Floppy Tents Actually Look Like a Tent (instead of like a concertina).  How did you do it?

I have done some... exciting... things to get photographs in the past; climbing on roof tops, flying in a 2-seater Cessna, wading in salt marshes up to my waist. I once met Oliver North when taking photos for my college newspaper, & have taken photos of Queen Elizabeth & Prince Charles. I never fell down a cliff before, though. With all my years as an Eagle Scout, I never fell down a cliff.

Doc says my A1C count (diabetes) has dropped from 13 to 9 (that's good) & my Grave's Disease has gone into complete remission. She didn't seem worried about the fall, though she said to make sure I don't show signs of concussion; the fact that I was really angry after I woke up this morning concerned her as that's not normal for me, & I'm having headaches, too, but I'm still sore from falling & there's no bump on my head. I'll go to ER if things change.

My medicines currently cost $5000+ each month so I try to limit ER trips!  8}

I don't think I did anything.  :D Mine just came that way - maybe I was lucky?
