Train stickers
« on: February 11, 2015, 12:20:11 »
Recently a low post member tried to sell a big collection of train stickers, a rare and most unusual collection (perhaps not if they were commercial). They had many different ones, closest to all train sets i have ever seen. The thing that stuck me as odd was the prices. I know stickers are a rare part to find many years after the set is discontinued but to pay $30 for one sheet? Well it seems silly when it's so simple to just print your own. Heathers playmo bible has image shots of most part numbers so one could even copy the original ones.

Print your own stickers for pennies. Nowadays you can even have them professionally printed on different material for a few dollars.

Seeing as the post was removed so quickly I never got my chance to dig for info. The execution squad is quick around these parts
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Hi Rasputin
The post was mine :)
My price was set in regards to what I paid my self for the stickers. You are absolutely right, that it is very easy
to print them your self, and I think that often this solution is so much better than the bad stickers you often get
when you buy used playmobil train sets on Ebay.
But I can of cause only talk for my self when I say, I would SO much more, rather have the originals!  ;D
And the reason that I wrote about my collection in here is that, I have sold my train sets again. I don´t think that
I will be starting up again on this theme, but perhaps my stickers could make some other train lover very happy

Susan :)

Though I didn't see the expected prices, one should note: Producing stickers in (original) Playmobil quality requires higher performances than an average desktop printer may deliver. White letters and waterproof printing's just slightly beyond a usual printer's standards.

It is difficult to get hold of original stickers without paying a lot, so I for one am happy to be able to print my own, using self adhesive "glossy film", which I learned about in a PF topic a little while ago. I have been happy with the results- even laying out the zoo signs from 3240 on the scanner glass and printing out onto a sheet of "film" gave quite reasonable results. I also made the green triangle parasol stickers for 3771 today and am happy with the result again.
As Rasputin said, there are a lot of stickers (1131) in PlaymoDB, most of them with images. Some images are actual size, which makes it easier to print your own. It would be great if people scanned their sticker sheets every time they got a new (original) one and sent the scans to Heather, so those of us who are happy to make our own stickerscould do so!

Can you find the thread please, Graham?  A search on "glossy film" doesn't turn anything up.

I couldn't find the thread either (I will keep looking). Here is the product I am using
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Inkjet-Adhesive-Sticker-Paper-sheets/dp/B000W4H63S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1432018106&sr=8-5&keywords=self+adhesive+inkjet+paper. I don't know why they use that weird picture! There are also matt and transparent versions. The only problem I had was getting the paper to go through the printer, because the sheets are quite thick. And it isn't particularly cheap!

PS You can't print white with an inkjet printer (as junker jorg said above), so the transparent sheets are no good if you have white areas on your sticker, unless its going on a white background!
