Some 16th century customs (Spanish King, The Dutch, English Guards and a Sultan)

It has been a while since I posted pics of customs, so here we go...


First one is an extensive update of a previous custom of 16th century Spanish King Philips II, son of Emperor Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire (not to be confused with the Roman Empire from 1000+ years earlier!).

Catholic King Philips II fought against Prostestant England (his enormous fleet, the "Armada", sent out to invade England, was defeated in 1588 by English ships under commandment of the famous privateer Sir Francis Drake) and against the lands which are now called Belgium and The Netherlands.

To fight rebellion in the Low Countries, Spanish King Philips II (see pic above) sent troops led by "Grand Duke of Alba", Fernando Álvarez de Toledo (in Dutch language: "de Hertog van Alva").
He is (in)famous for his atrocities against the local populations...

English Guards, watching out for the approaching Armada of Spanish king Philips II ...

The Dutch from the (mostly Protestant) Dutch Nothern Provinces (the "Hollanders"as we like to call them overhere in Flanders  ), who were able to fight off the Spanish troops and became independent, and later a wealthy nation during the 17th century.
On the contrary, the Dutch Southern Provinces (now known as Belgium) remained under Spanish (Catholic) rule for many years.

Those are brilliant Hadoque!  Like cheng, I am amazed by the brilliant use of neckpieces and capes.. and shoulder things!

And you managed to make THOSE hairs look almost good with the beards 

The gold painted armored arms are gorgeous   And I feel like making a bunch of those english guards!

Ah, I also really like the wizards's hat thingy there.. looks great!

And the sultan looks lovely - where is that cape from?
