Noshery!

The figures certainly do look exactly like Playmobil ones. I expect the quality of the plastic is nowhere near as good as what Geobra use though.

Interesting set! Thanks for the pic, Andi. :)

I wonder if its the same make as the made in China knights set that I have?

It is very poor quality and you can see how closely they have copied Playmobil apart from the assembly of the figures.

The 2nd picture contains both genuine Playmo and China parts can you tell them apart at a quick glance?

The bootleg figure on the left is easy to spot, but probably more so because you have placed a real klicky beside it, enabling us to draw immediate comparisons between the two. The finish to the body parts (especially his arm) appears much less neat, his hair doesn't look like it fits his head properly, and the printed design on his torso is of a poorer quality than what we would generally expect to see on an official figure.  :P

But I think that if the China-manufactured knights set was offered loose at auction, it would be very hard for a buyer to know they were fakes unless the photographs were as clear as the ones you've posted here, Garry. The shields and helmets especially are very close matches to the real Playmo ones, although the lack of detail in the tree would be an immediate giveaway to any experienced collector.  ;)

Thanks for posting these pics, Garry. Very interesting stuff. :)

Hi Andi,

Yes that's right , the screw in the back held the figure together.

The set originally came on a card as a blister pack but I got this one loose off Ebay. I knew it was a fake when I was bidding on it but I'm sure others didn't, I ended up paying over 6.00 for it just to satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks for the pics and info guys!

I agree the figures look like poor copies, but I would not mind having some of the swords in black. Is the plastic itself of similar quality?

The roof looks like a copy of a McDonalds, too;)

I've located a site from China/Hong Kong (I think) where these sets appear to be available:

This is sooo sad.
I will agree that without the originals next to the copies, it may be harder to tell them apart.

The fake helmets did not fool me for some reason, but the other items are very difficult to tell apart.
perhaps by touching them, one can feel the difference.

Playmobil has been protective of its designs.
It took a few years, I thought, for Geobra to finally win agaist ?Schenck, the Hungarian imitator.
I wonder if they will pursue this legal fight :eh?:

That "Pirate Island" set looks vaguely familiar to me. I think I may have seen it for sale in a local discount outlet (Poundstretcher (http://www.poundstretcher.co.uk/), quite possibly) a couple of years ago.

I remember thinking it was quite similar looking to a Playmo set I owned, but definitely wasn't tempted to buy it even though it was dirt cheap. (approx 10) :P

Thanks for the update, Andi. I hope Geobra can do something to stop the manufacturers over there stealing their ideas and knocking off these ugly 'copies' of their stuff. ::)

Sorry for bumping this up, but this is eye opening even for me, a guy from Hong Kong.
I know they have made similar toys like Lego for many years, but could never imagine they will do the same with playmobil. Playmobil itself is quite unknown in China, and there is now only a single outlet in Shanghai.

Please let it sink if this is no longer news. :)

found another chinese copy.  :o
... oh, i am sorry, it's only lego.  :-[
... wait, maybe they came up with the idea first.  ::)
... or maybe it was the other way around.  8}
"copyright" issues?
maybe the problem doesn't lie only in china.
  :hmm:
