Hi,
I played with playmobil back in the early 80's when McDonalds was giving away Indian figures with Happy Meals. I also had a western set. I remember having horses, a bull and a few cowboys. Several years ago I spotted the manger scene at TRU and picked it up as a Christmas decoration. I also found a Santa's sleigh and reindeer set on ebay that year. I have started to take a re-interest in the figures, mainly the military figures from the 1700's or items that can be used with them like pirate's cannons, etc... Truth is my real collectible is 3 3/4 inch GI Joe figures from the early 80's to present. I recently picked up a few more klicky Santa's though for Christmas decorations and tried to find a mystery figure of Uncle Sam without success.
Apparently, someone sliced open every blue bag and cherry picked the ones they wanted. I ended up with several guitar playing rock stars, football players, trophy carrying athletes, a Zorro and an Executioner. I did not notice the small cuts until home. None of the accessories were missing (surprised they did not take parts).
I think Playmobil will be a great toy line for children once my wife and I start having children. There is a lot of variety to the themes and they don't seem to be tied to violence, sex, drugs or any other of the negative influences that can affect a child unintentionally. (I played with GI Joe and toy guns and turned out okay, right?)

Hello and :welcome: from Louisiana! Seems we have quite a heavy concentration of collectors in North and South Carolina! I used to have some friends in Fayetteville area, so I've been up there before.
That's terrible about the cuts in the mystery packs. :( Glad to hear nothing was missing.

 Welcome from Pennsylvania, Shawn. It is good to have you with us. I remember the McDonald's Happy Meal give aways in the 80's. I used to take my students to Mc D's for a special lunch when they completed a level in their reading series. They were always excited about the Playmobil toys. That kind of got me started on collecting. ;D Once hooked . . . ::)

Elric - thanks. I am at the center of the universe and have been since Halloween 2001 except for a few trips overseas and year as a resident at Leavenworth.

Wow! That is almost 10 years in Fayetteville! A long time! You must like it there!
Where do you buy your PM? I use Science Safari and TRU in Cary and eBay mostly.
Glad you are back into PM....it really is so much fun! Holler if I can help you with anything as we are just an hour apart, and I have been in the Triangle for 17 years. Cheers, Pgal

It has been a long time and I have enjoyed it. I am fairly senior and am at the mercy of a command selection board for my next assignment.
I shop at the TRU on Skibo and there is a mom and pop toy store on Bragg Road called Tiny Toys, I think. I do a little on evilBay, Playmobil USA's site and just contacted DS with a large request for customs.
I am focusing on only a few themes and trying to stick to fi?ures only. Mainly Pirates, Indians/Native Americans (vintage and recent) and I just discovered the Vikings. I am working on some American Revolution time frame customs. I will try to get the seasonal items for decorations and can't wait for the stone age ones to arrive in the US.

Shawn,
Cool! Will have to try out that little toystore on our next time in Fayetteville.
I have had a lot of luck buying Klickies from Germany on eBay. Their selection is often much better than ours when it comes to people. And they tend to take very good care of their toys.
I have been watching the Viking boat at Science Safari and not taken the plunge yet because it is kind of large. But it does look plenty cool.
If you have a TM, look for specials there. I found a couple of cowboys with the green shirt today for 1.49. Cool!
Good luck collecting and with your next assignment. Hope it is near a PM store!
