Title: PM Box Storage
Post by: tigana123 on November 17, 2011, 14:36:11
Hi all,

I have a somewhat "strange" question: I have seen several people talking on how they exhibit/display and store their playmobil. However what do you do with all the boxes from the playmobil packaging. Do you just throw them away, or keep them somewhere (intact or just break them) etc?

Up to know I haven't thrown away any boxes, but they take a significant amount of space (even if I put some the small inside the larger ones). Any ideas?

Thanks

Theo

I throw away recycle 0) :P all my boxes. That may disqualify me as a true collector, but I just don't have room for them!

I'm in the PAINFUL process of flatenning most of mine :(

I have all of mine stashed in my wardrobe! I have thrown out a few of them, but with great sorrow and only when they are damaged.

I keep all my boxes flattend on a shelf in my Playmo-Room. I used to have them all packed into a tub in the garage, but there were too many to fit in there after a while  :klickywink:! I think the pictures on the boxes and the memories that go with the sets make them really special to me, almost as much as the Playmos that came in them .

I am one of those packaging obsessives! 8} 8} 8}

Every set is kept in it's box wherever possible. Nothing is ever flatpacked or thrown away 0)

I just don't have the room, so smaller more "insignifcant" sets' boxes get thrown in the rubbish (Or, if I REALLY LIKE the box art, I'll cut out the pictures and file them away with all my instructions).

If it's a BIG set, like the 3940 or the Knight's Empire Castle, I keep the box, but I do break the factory glue points and flatten the box for storage.  I have a hot glue gun, so I'm confident I can reassemble the box at any time.  However, I still have ended up cutting up some big sets' boxes, including the Skull Pirate Ship and BlackBeard's ship boxes;  their front artwork now is hung in my son's room as wall art along with some giant PM posters that usually come with those big sets.

For sure, one thing I like about most PM is that the box itself is beautiful art as well, especially with the vintage ones.  Newer box art doesn't seem as imaginative or impressive to me IMO.

The boxes are stored in my secret attic room. My girlfriend doesn't realises this, it slowly is looking like a little toystore magazine.

Depends on the box... I recycle most of them, but I tend to keep the important ones or the ones that are older and more rare, usually placing the smaller in he bigger ones. Of course, I keep them in another house so no real worries about space on their part here.

I keep all the boxes...I only fold recent boxes, because they have folds that allow them to be flattened without damaged (and it's a way to save room). The polystyrene and the older carton boxes are not flattened, I keep them in the garage (in plastics bags), and in two bedrooms....I can't recycle the boxes because for me, boxes are as valuable as the klickies....

same here with the smaller in bigger boxes. etc

i store all newer boxes like this.

after a massive clean up of my collection i have set up all old boxes by themes. if there are special parts or spare parts / double parts of a certain rare set i will put it in the box. ( for example i have a spare bell from the schuldturm / i keep this part in the box. )i keep all medieval houses in smaller boxes assembled. then i have wooden boxes for all my steck parts. also my fav. western klickys , loose medieval stuff are in different wooden boxes.
then there are storage boxes with feathers , small animals , hats , furniture etc.  also themed by medieval, 1900 , cowboys , pirates etc.
in the wooden boxes i have also stored klickys , house parts etc. from different themes in frost bags ( ? ) cheap , solid and you can see whats inside. love those.

I only keep old boxes with the photos on them, or those of sets that I know are rare or unusual. The rest get recycled. I tried keeping them at first but it just took up too much room.

I see that this problem is common to many people. I was thinking to try to fold them but this essentially ruins the box. On the other hand they take too much space. I'm expecting several new sets and space becomes precious. I wish playmobil could size the boxes of every set so that they could fit into the large(r) one of this set  ;D

I nest the boxes as much as possible, and the biggest boxes (with up to 5 or 6 boxes inside) are stuffed in the top of my son's closet. I'm grateful, though, for the second-hand sets that came without boxes as the closet shelf's pretty much out of space now.

I used to painfully archive all my boxes(cut and flattened) and plans but since they have become available online, I've dumped them :P

I'm sad to say that I get rid of my boxes. I actually kept four boxes of my favourite sets, though.

if one MUST throw away a box, at least cut out the front art work and save it in a file folder somewhere (or better yet, frame it and hang it on a wall!)  At least for the very pretty ones.

I throw all my boxes away. Firstly, I just don't have the space to keep them all and secondly ... What would I do with them anyway.
I keep all the plans together in a single box as I used to scan them and keep them on the harddisk and a USB stick.

These days I don't even have to scan them anymore

I've kept almost all of our boxes. They were taking up tons of room in the garage, so we placed a piece of plywood over the rafters in the attic and put them all up there. Worked pretty well, although it was a bit of a puzzle trying to get the bigger ones up the ladder and through the attic crawl door

I did empty the boxes of their contents first, though. Instructions to a file and extra bits to the "extra bits" box. I nested the boxes as well, to save on space.
