The last units I needed to complete my Roman army...
*Stands back, and sighs contentedly.*
Now onto Greeks. :)
-
Now onto Greeks. :)
Agree, how nice some hoplites would be, with round shields and long spears, for making falanxes. :yup:
Like your Romans too!
-
Yup,
I have to buy some extra parts, but soon I'll have some Macedonian pike-men.
Then I have some ideas for Hoplites. :)
-
Wow... They look great!
-
Its always great to have more legionaries ;D
-
Thanks guys. :)
-
Nice collection of Romans
-
Well, I think that your Hoplites will have a more then large Roman army to confront!
Great purchases! :)
-
My Greeks will be horribly outnumbered!
Assuming I am able to acquire all the parts necessary to make my Greek army,
There will only be 30 (and a troop of 8 archers) Greeks against 60 Romans!
And my Romans will have cavalry. :o
The only redeeming factors in that battle will be that my Greeks will all have very good defense stats,
And my Hoplites in particular will be extremely hard to defeat (following my Melee Rules with Additional Options (http://gardenwargaming.playclicks.com/forum/index.php?topic=1370.msg14157#msg14157)). :)9

:wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:
Impressive roman army sir, perhaps yuo can post some pictures of the whole roman army in battle fomration etc ;D ;D ;D
-
Super collection, great display!

I might be able to set up my Roman army later today George.
But first I need to make another shelving unit available to put my knights on. :P
Thanks Basilsdad.

Is it 1 century, together? (80 to 100 men)
-
No, I have shrunk the centuries, so 1 century is now 10 men.
The Romans I have would, in scale, form a cohort. ;D
But I am not sure cohorts had both Praetorian Guards and Regular Legionnaires in the same cohort. ???
I finished setting up my Roman army!
I will post pictures soon.

Maybe I should shrink down my centuries to 10 men, also. Although, unlike you, my "centuries" would definitely not equal a cohort.
Oh, and by the way, cohorts did not have both legionaries and Praetorian Guardsmen - the Praetorians actually got there own cohorts.
Can't wait to see the army complete!
-
I didn't think so. I knew that they had their own cohorts,
so it didn't make sense for them to combine in one with other legionnaires. :)
-
My Greeks will be horribly outnumbered!
Do not worry WOT! Greeks always was outnumbered.Even at Great Alexander war campaign! That was their advantage!
-
Ok guys, here they are...
My Romans, in full battle formation! ;D
After about 5-6 years,
I have finally completed what I never knew I started...
(Until too late... :P) ::)
First, my shelves.
With both my Romans (Left) and Knights (Right).
The setup...
and the first views of the units,
Starting with my Praetorian Guards.
-
Now my Legionnaires.
I also set up my Greek soldiers.
These guys I will turn into Macedonian pike-men when I get the parts. :)
For now they are weaponless... :P
-
But my Greek archers are complete. :)
They stand behind my "pike-men" ready for battle.
The last two photos show the leaders of these two armies.
The first is the Roman leader with his cavalry bodyguard,
The second, my Greek leader on his chariot.
I hope you all like my Romans and Greeks.
-
Thanks for showing you're Roman army! 8-)

The Praetorian Guard had indeed completely seperate cohorts, and was the Caesar's personal army and had nothing to do with the regular legions/army (a bit like an ancient imperial non-amphibious Marine Corps).

Did roman soldiers - at the time of the republic - sport beards?
-
Did roman soldiers - at the time of the republic - sport beards?
Only sometime later in the republic, to mimic the greeks. Sometimes the let their beards grow as mourning.
Totally dig your army! 8-) 8-)
-
No problem Hadoque! ;D
That is very cool to know, thank you.
Did roman soldiers - at the time of the republic - sport beards?
I heard a myth that Barbarians were called barbarians because they shaved
(barbarians sounds a lot like barbers)
And shaving was cheating because you could not gab them by their beard when fighting. ::)
I do not think this is any true at all.
But it is a good way of remembering that Roman soldiers did sport beards.

I like it too, especially that shaving was cheating
I thought barbarian came from barbar, which is the way other languages sounded to ancient greeks.
Like in moder times you have blahblah if you don't understand what someone is saying :)

Another excellent set up Warrior!! I anjoy seeing your army growing!!!
-
As do I Panos... as do I... ;D
-
Love your armies...
I NEED to build up our roman army...
-
Nice setup WOT!
-
Great setup indeed and it must feel great to have a "complete" army!!
-
Excellent !! i love playmo roman armies and yours is a complete battle unit !!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Building up the Roman armies are fun...
But more importantly you need to build up people to fight your Romans. ;D
Otherwise it will be 10000000000 Romans vs 10 Gauls!
Thanks guys!
Finally completing my Romans was an amazing feeling.
It was a great accomplishment for me,
It also mean I can begin focusing on the other themes I want to collect. (Which are still a lot.... :-[)

I couldnt agree more , though very hesitant at times i am glad after i bought the 180 or so egyptians i also got the 150 gauls , i think the gauls are really rare and they make a great army against romans using playmo trees and forest staff and western forts etc etc ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm late to the melee, but congratulations on the completion of your Roman army, WarriorOfToys! Your Praetorians and legionaries look great, as do their leaders. :roman:
My only suggestion would be to change the commanding officer's horse, as I don't think the Romans rode paints. ;)
Your Greeks should be good foes, but you need some Egyptians and Barbarians to fight your Romans too! ;)
-
Thank you Justindo.
Hmm, you are right, I'll have to change his horse soon...
Ooh! Do not even get me started on barbarians and Egyptians. ;D
They will be here... Soon enough... :P
