I know there is no picture yet but the set # is 5135 and also when Bonnie and I were at the new toysrus in town they already had the price tags out for the new island and ship but none in stock yet.
-
That's really exciting :yippee:! This is my favorite generation so far, so I hope they get them in stock soon !

if you cant wait for in store they do have it in the warehouse so you could order today and get it before most in the US if you wanted to
-
Please make it so! :wow: ;D
-
It looks like they just added the picture of the pirate ship to the website :captain:! Hopefully they'll be more pirates to come to Toys R Us .

-
hm since they have it i may have to talk the wife into letting me order it... even though I really don't need it   it was one of the sets i planned to skip...... I don't have a place to put my ships now... let alone with more ;)
-
I want to buy two and combine them...
And the price seems just right to allow me to do that! :D
-
I've had a lot of PMB pirate ships over the years. What is new on this one? It does look neat. I'm thinking more for a Royal Navy ship than a pirate.
-
It looks like they're slowly-but surely-getting the pirates :arrr:! They have the castaway now: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12098411&prodFindSrc=rv (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12098411&prodFindSrc=rv).

did anybody local store have any of these? The link said that some stores have them. Our local store just re-organized the shelves and there is not room for these.
-
is this a new trend for us USA folks to no longer have to wait an entire year to get cool stuff that came out in europe first? Or am I so behind the times and haven't realized that it's already been a year since this ship was available in europe?
-
When Clong first posted this, there were 260 playmobil items on the website. I checked yesterday and they are down to 209 items. Anyone notice this? I would love to get things early at TRU. Remember we got the Z00 and treasure hunters early last year.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!!? USD9.99 ONLY!????? It is 9.49 EURO in Germany.....and the spot rate is 1EURO=1.3USD or above........ :o :o :o :o :o :o
-
the price points are usually different... its based on what they can get for it, not the exchange rate... sometimes its more, sometimes less... but usually pretty close... but yeah I noticed that too now the the german site has the prices listed
-
Right, it's usually really to our advantage to wait til stuff gets to the US to buy it, because it's cheaper!

OUrs doesn't have them out yet, but it has shelves marked for several of those sets, including the big ship and the island, with prices. So I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they get them in or put them out.

so.... assuming no more Greek debt default and moody's credit rating downgrade in the Euro Zone....you guys in the states are getting the sets at 30 to 40% discount  :hmm:
-
well without getting too political... it is simply a matter of currencies values being based on the value of other currencies rather than being based on economic data... since the US dollar is currently the most used currency for international trade it has more buying power even if its value is less... which is why a set can be about 10 euros or 10 dollars... even though by exchange rates (which include a surcharge for obtaining the other currency whether you physically get that currency or not) indicate otherwise... for example the Canadian dollar has been worth "more" than the American dollar for a while (until the last few weeks) but the US prices compared to Canadian prices are almost always lower...
that might be a complicated explanation... but I only know how to make it more complicated, not less... That is what happens when everybody is off the Gold Standard... ;)
SO in short, it isn't really a discount, it just looks like it on paper... because we compare the prices between countries more than ever
Also, there are other cost factors to be considered in each market... there may be additional costs associated with selling the items in europe that do not exist in the US... I'd have to see the full financial documents to know for sure... :)
-
No worry.....my post grad thesis is on International Economics and now Chartered to do related business.....so what you say is comprehensible to me. Yet it is quite a common line when we are complaining about the currency issue...the whole A vis-a-vis B thing. Dont be too series.....fun would be all gone when we are getting too many assumptions and academic. :P
If we talk economics.....all I could do is suck it up and end all the complaints.

alright then I thought perhaps you were actually asking why ;)
lets just call the discount our payback for the agony we get for seeing the sets SO FAR in advance and not being able to possess them
-
Lets stay on topic, please. :)
-
sorry :-[
having these sets available is really weakening my resolve... I was determined to only get the fancy wigs from this new pirate series :( but the prices seem really good...
Has anyone ordered them yet?

haha....that is okay....dont wanna be a geek on the internet.
Talk about agony...this is indeed a big one. They are cheaper in the states and dont have to wait another year like other export market, including UK. But I bet Brits could travel to Germany to get the new sets, or buying them with less shipping.
One thing I have just noticed....if TRU in the states is practicing its ginormous bargaining power getting the sets ahead of other smaller stores, why couldnt their branches in other area do the same? I dont want to spend time digging deep down their business model.....yet it is quite frustrating to see another extreme here in asia..where playmobil are no longer carried by TRU!!!!!

I want the new officer wig...the cool curly one, or we call them OMEGA shaped? And the new birds of course. But the castaway is really one of the set I want....it is cool to take picture with

What's not depicted on that store page about the castaway island, is that it comes with a red barrel and a somewhat rusty looking musket which I find a really nice touch, the color is a little brown/greyish. As if its been in the water quite a while and might not function.
The vase hanging on the branch is a very nice touch too, teaching curious kids who ask about it a little something, that its used to catch rainwater to drink, since the salt sea water should not be used for that.
Definatly a better castaway island than the old version, it just seems to include a lot more. Although a bottle with a note might have been better than a small gold chest, but thats nitpicking. There is even a little monkey so that the clicky won't get lonely.

Hmm...I wonder if they have it at TRU Canada? :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

I did see the new(er) school bus at our TRU as well as the new carry-all school set.

Yes, you're right, Wesley, TRU here does get some of the "exclusive" sets like blister packs and some of others like the school sets... but not the full selection or theme (usually an early release these days) like the new pirates.

-
All one has to do is look at the Playmobil selection on TRU.com vs TRU.ca to see the clear disparity.
-
they havent been added to the brand list yet... but i found these at TRU online as well....

Thanks for the update, Baron ! I'm really excited to see all of these great sets on the website. Am I mistaken or can a cell phone scan that white square on the corner of the Adventure Island box :hmm:...

-
hm it does in fact appear to be one of those funny little squares... :hmm: the prices on these sets are killing me though... I mean I like the klickies with the fort... but $50? :o they are going to have to do better than that... the Lighthouse cost that and had a Lot more to offer... I think I am starting to catch ... RESTRAINT! .... but not about the cave people... I am getting those... no matter the cost ;D
-
Well, Toys R Us does a lot of sales on PMB. Just sit and wait, it won't be long till the next one. Plus they have free shipping over $75.
Speaking of pirates: there were enough different woman pirates to do an all female crew, which I did a few years back. Does it seem there may be enough Asians now to do that also?
-
Yeah, the big island is $119, and definitely more than the little one you get for the $50.
They have the hammerhead shark though. I don't think I can justify $50 to get the one bird. One more thing for a parts order.
-
Well I bought the fort and thought it was a very good deal for 40 euros.
Then again, I dont have other sets that big. the lighthouse does seem to be a bigger structure, but it seems to have barely any accesoires while this fort is filled with them.
The way I see it is, the fort offers a wall and tower, plenty of docking space, and also a treasury and jail. And along with that there is a treasure chest with gold, a table and stool, a bottle of rum, a basket with potatos, a barrel, two small barrels, handcuffs, keys, a map, a sack of grain, a torch and of course a cannon and three well armed and detailed clickies.
All the furniture and supplies can easily be used for any historic set up, never hurts having more of it around.

It does appear to have one of those codes... good observation!
-
Anybody have one of those stupid phones that can read such language? I wonder if it is a link to the playmobil web site and then in the future a link to the club?
-
I don't.... I don't think. But I hear it is usually a link to the product website. I suppose it could be a link to the TRU website, out on there by TRU.... ::)
-
TRU had all the new pirate sets in the store! Just picked up the 5135!

Thanks for the heads up, now just to wait for a sale. Patience is so annoying when it comes to toys.

Yes, they're at my TRU, too! I forgot to mention it. I want the little set with the hammerhead.

I really want that set as well but for the native hunter

Just got the most recent catalog mailer. The 5134 Island, 5135 big ship, and the 5139 fortress sets are all 20% off plus it says 20% off All Playmo pirate sets so maybe the others pirates besides the 3 shown will be too. Good through 11-23
They also have a bonus promo - with any Playmobil purchase in stores of over $65 you can have either the 5898 Kayak, SUV and Moose set or the 5872 Fairy Waterfall with unicorns and willow tree set - Free.

I do not have the mailer yet so does the sale start after the 30th?

Yeah, the front page says the sales are good October 30th - November 23rd.

Thanks you Bonniebeth :*) You saved me a bike ride to TRU :**:
-
And btw, it says all playmobil pirate sets 20% off. So I would think this would also include the US exclusive pirate sets, which are still on the shelves, in addition to the new pirate series.
-
Wish I had known about the sale. I could have waited another week or so. On the other I have learned that if you see it on the shelf you better get it because you might not see it again.

I would go ask the manager for a sale price refund. A lot of stores have the 30 day price policy {if you find it on sale or cheeper with in a designated period of time you get a refund for the difference} . Or you just tell them you will return the used toy for a full refund and then just rebuy the set on sale ;) There is always a way around  Now I only suggest this if you are going to use the funds for more playmobil. I just love trying to get fellow collectors more

Is this in the US or Canada?
-
We're in the US. Don't know if it's the same in Canada, but probably not.

If you saved the receipt they will give you an adjustment. This is usually good for 30 days.

Most of us have our locations in our profiles, so if you click on my name, it will take you to my profile page and show you where I am.

I was just looking at prices on TRU vs the offical PMB stie. It's interesting that they are very different on some things. TRU has the Christmarket 5 dollars more expensive than the Playmobil site, but has the new huge pirate ship $15 cheaper than the official site, And that's before a sale. I've made a point of checking both from time to time to get the best deal. At least it's better than those places who mark the things up 25% then mark it down 20 percent and tell you what a great deal they are giving you.
-

You mean Tuesday Morning ::) Their 50% off is more like 25%
-
Was just checking out the new sets on TRU.com and noticed that they are limited to 2 items per customer of any 1 set number. Is this normal for new stuff? I have not been buying long enough to know.
-
it is normal for the larger sets... but not for smaller ones ???
-
Another marketing ploy to make me buy two just because that's all I am allowed ::)
-
That really must be new, because I just bought three of the Chrismas markets a few weeks ago. And yes, Tuesday Morning is certainly one of those, but not the only one. There's a big toy and hobby store here who does that. For instance, they mark the Specials to $4 then give you 20% off, which gives you about a ten cents savings at best off msrp.
