all the way victorian for me!!!!! :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: althought it's hard to choose among others too
note: the name victorian for this theme is not officially from playmobil ,i wonder how it started to be used so widely ,dollhouse is the original name of that theme ;)

I'm a modern gal, so it is modern/city life for me along with Specials. Cheers, Pgal
-
So many choices, so many choices! :o
I went with Roman/Egyptians, Modern/City Life and Modern/Police. I don't know why, but they've always been my favorite themes to collect.
-
I voted for quite a few, too! One thing you forgot was underwater/marine.
-
While I clearly like getting them all.... :) My Favorites to get are the Medieval, Christmas, and Easter Eggs... and Exclusives... I LOVE those... I know they fit into themes... but there is just something extra special about getting something that takes a bit more effort... and money
-
Like a lot of people here, my favorite Playmobil theme is medieval. Steck castles, armored Klickies and yes, even SystemX fortresses make this theme high on my list :knight:! I also love the Specials theme, which I've recently started collecting. It's great to get large numbers of Klickies that are all identical ! I like the Top Agents theme a lot, mostly because of all of the details in the sets and the creative printing on the figures. I in big box of figures I got from Malta last week, there were about 30 Top Agents, and I just have to organize them into a small Agent army with some more SUV's and flying cars :evilplan:!

My favorite theme, by far, is medieval. I think there is just something charming about it. Like all other themes, it leaves a lot to the imagination for creative play. I also really like the Romans and Egyptian themes. Christmas is also my favorite because it is such a fun way to incorporate something I love into my favorite holiday. Nothing shows Christmas spirit like a klicky ;)
-
So hard as I like so many! I narrowed it down to mediaeval, some modern, christmas, victorian and fairy etc.
-
I like PM.
-
I like PM.
me too! :D
-
I tend to gravitate toward the medieval and magic/fairy themes, although there are some Victorian pieces that I really like, too. In the city life theme, I generally collect the leisure/vacation items. Maybe because I'd rather be on vacation than shuffling off to work everyday ;D
There's other themes represented in our house as well, like dinos, underwater world, hospital, zoo, farm, animal clinic. They are just in my kids' rooms instead of mine.
-
I finf it very hard to choose, and some are kinda mixed up.. As you probably all know, I go for all of them... though TRYING to cut back, I voted for medieval/dragonland (duh), romans/egyptians (another duh), magic/fairy (but this one I mean the old magic ones, that look like medieval, not those more recent fairies with flowers and wings.. they kinda look silly to me), Dinos (love the dinos themselves), and the prehistoric (that I didn't get YET - though aren't the dinos prehistoric too?)
I world have voted for the polar eskimos/Scott instuitute too.. and the eggs when they were smaller and beautiful.
DANG. Missed the specials! Consider them voted! (can't we change our vote?)
(What does collecting add-ons mean?)
-
here is a list of what I consider as theme (may be I'm wrong):
Circus, underwater, racing, vacation (=citylife?), winter/polar, school/playground (=citylife?),
Poneyclub (=farm?), Viking/Barbarian, Easter (rabbits+eggs), Football(=sports)
I like all king of playmobil, but I really enjoy, medieval and western/Indians themes.....why? because I grew up with medieval and western movies like young boys did....
-
Anything modern themed is my favourite
And then Medieval, western, and Victorian are my second favourites.
I have bits and pieces from other themes, but the above are what I have most of :)
Damo :)
-
I voted for the "BC-themes" Egyptian/Roman/Prehistoric. Ofcourse I realise the romans were still here AD.
-
I found it hard to choose, but I suppose my favourites tend to be the older sets such as steck, medieval 'civilians' rather than knights, eskimos, western and victorian, but I also collect circus, (was that on the list?) specials and anything that I need for the next exhibition too.
In fact anything at all that I can get for a reasonable price

-
Right! Specials! Forgot about them...
-
well... hard to choose really... but for me would be:
Victorian, specials, western, medieval, space, construction, viking, pirates, sea expedition, xmas and easter bunnies.... and in the future... super agents, future planet and prehistoric.... that means almost everything.
-
hmmm... do you know what i have seen :hmm: :hmm: in polls the one that gets many votes is the one which is first on the list ,just because it's first ??

oh offcourse !!!! glad you spoted these playmo80 (Circus, underwater, racing, vacation, viking, easter, football) ;)

I didn't see Samurai... so I chose knights. :)
Probably because they have been around forever,
I have been buying them forever,
And the will forever be cool! ;D
(Even if they are going through a heat spell right now... and not in the nice way.) :-\
I probably would have chosen Samurai though, if it were available...
Partially because I am watching Samurai movies... :P
And partially because they are really awesome, and fun to put together. :)9
But I just realized I could have clicked other! ::)
-
And you could choose as many as you want, too. ;)

Medieval of course!

I like them all

I agree. There is a certain charm to it. I fear they have lost it though with the newer medieval sets. It's like they tried to separate it too much (from the princess sets) and tried to make it too stereotypically boyish.
-
Hmmm, I see the arguments for the medieval sets, but still don't get it.
Dark ages are not my favorite I guess. :P sorry guys
Still have dragon knights haha
-
i voted fire brigade. well itswas my dream since young to be fireman, but its impossible to be here in malta..... long story........ but on the other hand i built a department of my own fully with units branches sections and ranks.
well with my job i have loads of work in connection with the fire rescue so atleast ........
anyways i love that theme most and always trying to make it bigger and expand in new branches and so....
-
PIRATES, did you guess that one? ;D
But also Medieval and Victorian / Dollhouse / Western / Specials / etc..., as long as everthing can be used for settings situated in the period 1492 (discovery of the Americas by Columbus) to 1805 (seabattle of Trafalgar), with a possible slight extention to 1815 (battle of Waterloo).
-
Not surprised to see that in the answers to my original question , medieval came first . And i find this quite interesting actually. One would also say that more time and money and sets and new systems ( x, clip etc ) have been designed for this theme. I wonder now what are the reasons for medieval themes being so popular, there must be some reason(s) probably linked to psychology etc etc, very curious as to why !!!!! ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
;D

It would be as simple as the same reasons we like it ourselves so much.

But if one counts all votes for the different modern themes together, the combined-modern-times-theme wins with a big bang...
edit: though when all historic themes (Stone Age, Egyptians, Romans, Medieval, Pirates, Western and Victorian) are counted together, the result is more balanced
-
But if one counts all votes for the different modern themes together, the combined-modern-times-theme wins with a big bang...
yeah but in that sense one can add more themes to medieval .... :)
-
I realised it but you replied faster then I edited my post ;)
-
Who will win? The historical themes or the modern ones?! 8-)
-
I voted for modern/farm.
-
I voted for modern/farm.

Perhaps the medieval theme allows more options?
A peacefull scene, full out war, guards can chase common bandits, friendly jousting matches, colorfull celebrations, hunting, etc.
Personly I just love decorating medieval scenes.
And it does allow some mixing and matching with the pirate theme, for buildings, chests, barrels and other decorations. And some civilians too.

Most of the medieval sets were as you describe and allowed creating vast creations of peaceful and very middle ages designs , shops , town and farm folk etc etc are just a few examples , this was their philoshophy from 1977 to 2000 .... :).. back in the early 80s yuo only had nuremberg guards and not al these unshaved angry evil faces of medieval warriors with unrealistic armour and weapons. much much better back then and it seems that playmobil backthen referred to a higher standard/quality of clientele .......
-
Modern themes allow all the same, except for war. As someone pointed out, when you add the modern ones together, you get about 48 votes. ;D I think modern theme collectors are greatly overlooked, with medeival and victorian viewed to be the big collector themes. I hope geobra can be made to realize that in reality, modern themes are probably the most popular with collectors, so they can know their target audience with the pcc and all a little better.
-
If the figures had the same versatility now as they did originally... IE non molded-on accessories as stickers instead of prints... then everyone could use all of them   think bright red sneakers... how many people who don't play on a pro sports team have those :hmm:
-
It's all nice in its own way, and I gues all of us have maybe a theme or two that we really dislike. Its just what we prefer that we mention in this thread. :)
Personly I dislike dragonland and Agents. Both nice ideas, but taken to the extreme. It seems to allow little variety and few options.
With a solid police theme I just dont feel that Agents has anything to add to it.
-
Medieval, but not quite the dragonland
You are able to create a whole new ancient world with the sets, which is just cool. So it is great if Geobra could produce more sets with civilians, and not limited by castle and troops.
-
They should at the very least try and release smaller castles, more of an outpost of sorts or watchtower.
A two stories high watchtower with an armory on one floor, a place to sleep on the other, and two or three guards could be a very good set.
I am still busy writing up a very long list of stuff I'd like to see on wordpad though.
-
They're always releasing outposts of some sorts, especially in the supersets. What we need is a building system like Steck, which can cater for bigger and smaller castles but which can also be dismantled easily for the sake of space. As much as they are lovely, new buildings like the lighthouse and the recent recoat fortress are such a pain to put away. Space-wise in fact, I would say that the fortress takes almost as much space to store as a 3666.
-
The redcoat fort is nice, but it would be nicer to have multible steck buildings to combine. That way several small sets could still make a large castle when put together.
The old schuldtrum from my brother is all the steck I got to build with during my childhood, and it has been used for a great many things despite not being that big.
At some point we even made an alleyway with all kinds of houses, like a little village.
-
So medieval and dragonland is by far the most collected. :hmm:

Absolutely ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
So medieval and dragonland is by far the most collected. :hmm:
Indubitably so.
-
it's interesting.
I think this has to do with the other poll that's running. the age-range.
so far the "thirty something going on 40" is winning... meaning we were playing with Pm when medieval was first out in the market.
It would have been more interesting to see how dragonland would have made it on its own instead of being assossiated with medieval.
maybe this also have been said but it's weird that now the medieval theme is mostly - if not ONLY - knights :hmm:
I wonder if kids nowadays would like civilian medieval people to play with.... :hmm:
-
Actually, no.. The big themes for me were indians and cowboys. That was the "adventure movie" of the time. Actually my first medieval sets were the "robin hood party", the one with the big barrel and drunk monk, and those around it.
I was only interested in the old knights much later...
Of course, back then, any theme would do too.. There was the big desert one and the Safari with the small elephant.. Those were some of the first...

My theme was totally construction. Anyways, what boy isn't into the "totally sick" construction vehicles? ;D
What's everybody's least favorite theme? For me I don't really have a least favorite theme - like most people here, I like all PM - but if I had to chose one, I'd say Medieval. :knight:
-
The only themes I'm not wild about are dragonland and fairies. I pretty much like all playmobil. my childhood favorite themes in general not just in playmobil, were western/indians, pirates, dollhouses, and animals/pets/horses. And interestingly, that translates to my favorite themes now, exactly. Though I didn't have any playmo pirates or dollhouse stuff as a kid, those are all my favorite areas now. So I think your theory may be right, Gaston.
-
Heh, I am a guy who is not into construction at all. Then again, I am the kind who is not handy at all.
But it does look nice, and its very much a part of playmobil. Just not my kind of thing.
-
Actually, no..
Why not ? lego has made medieval civilian sets etc and i cant see why kids of today wouldnt like these ... its a shame really playnmobil didint create any civilian romans which was a huge dissapointment for me and as far as medieval sets , well the bakery is out and thats a good start plus the barrel....

No, I mean I wasn't playing with the first medieval guys when I was little. I had indians/cowboys/safari/etc - but no medieval/construction/space - those were later.. finds.

My ver first playmobil was construction and medieval, then went for cowboyz and indians and then at steck times back to medieval . golden days !!!!

i don't think medieval / dragonland should go together - i like medieval stuff (don't collect much), especially old sets but to me the dragon sets are some of the ugliest sets pm has ever made, with those ridiculous chiken face dragons and winged knights :hmm:

hey! I love the chicken dragon :hmm:
but I agree they should not be together.
-
Who is the chicken dragon ??
The old green/ red / black dragon i suppose ??? Well i like him and i have 7 of them :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
As for the dragonland series their weapons etc clearly indicate a medieveal era i dont why it should be differentiated from the castles ... :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
-
Who is the chicken dragon ??
this is the chicken dragon 5840 - Dragon Rock (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5840)
At first i too thought everyone was refering to the typical green/red/black dragon like that.
-
Dragonland and medieval suffer from some of the same problems though at the moment: just two factions (good and evil) fighting against each other. Both have a castle and troops, and theres nothing else.
-
To me Dragonland is medieval-ish in my opinion but it's more like a fantasy theme (just not many people seem to like to name that theme that way :P)
Dragons and floating rocks are not historically accurate, I mean it's not even realistic, it's fantasy instead - old medieval sets were realistic, that's why i think they should be in separate categories
-
I gues dragon land is pretty much a very poor follow up on the fantasy sets released in the mid 90's that came with wizards, flying carpets, a sorceress lair and other truly imaginative sets inspired by classical fairytales.
I'd love for them to return to that style. It had the elements of fairytales without copying any directly.
-
The fairy tale sets could easily be from a medieval time period too, and yet no one would argue it is the same as the knights theme. ;) I think the fantasy dragonland theme is entirely different from the regular medieval themes.
