Title: new argentinian antex sets
Post by: cachalote on September 04, 2011, 19:03:03
(i hope nobody spoke about this earlier)

:) if you look at the first set i bet you will be amazed.

:o we don't need a collectors club or any favours from geobra.
:) all we need to know is how can we speak to antex's management.
:hmm: ... and to get low shipping cost and to know how to get through customs.

I think you're forgetting about the quality difference. ;)

:) that's almost a myth bonniebeth.
i have a few antex sets and they are not that bad.
 and thet have a  special "primal" charm that "european" sets have long lost.
;) i am sure that if they made a state fair theme - what a great idea, by the way - you would love it.

I do not care at this point about inferior plastic quality as just about every one of my fishing trawlers is missing some part.

Is there any members in here who have access to this and the other great sets? Do antex sell parts ?

Thanks for the info cachalote

The quality can not be worse than on old dried out brittle Geobra set

I looked at the set list and I saw at least a dozen sets I need/want/have to have

I seem to remember that a set there cost you a months wages though  ::)

I'm still not convinced about quality. Check out the multiloader. It uses some inferior (probably solid plastic) tyres instead of the original ones used by Geobra.

Damo :)

Well, according to what Gaston, who lives in Argentina has said many times, the quality of Antex does leave a lot to be desired. He's had major problems not only with quality, but with missing parts or wrong parts included in sets. That is for the sets being produced currently. The quality of the sets produced back in the day was perfectly fine, and you may have some of those older sets that were of very similar quality as geobra. But that has changed.

I have considered buying antex versions of the old eskimo theme, because I would really like to have it, and because I'd like to see for myself what the quality is like. But I hardly think it's a substitute for getting actual re-released sets from geobra.

I would still buy them as there really is no alternative at this point. Where else are we in the US supposed to get the old western buildings, especially the old peaked roof or for that matter the house boat

To buy an Antex set is a lottery: not counting quality per se, that can be anything from very good to terrible, you can't be certain what will come in the box ::).
But being honest, if the price is right, it ain't bad, specially if you want the set for parts.

I hate to dissapoint you all, but from the few antex sets I have the quality of the klickies is very bad... I have a few playmospace antex sets and although the vehicles are very good, the klickies and a few accessories are horibble...

I briefly mentioned the fishing trawler ("Susanne") being released by Antex in the "DS-Add-On-2012-collectors' choice-thread"  ;)

those are the parts that are easy enough to drop in the parts bin and forget about. The vehicle in this case is the important part.

Even if the vehicle is bad I or the kids would not be playing with them as though they were brand new, easy to replace Geobra sets. Really to be honest my kids are very gentle but some of their young friends have not been taught by their parent to be gentle with toys  ::) I now need a replacement TAXI trunk lid as one of these munchkins snapped off a hinge  :'(

Very true. I recall well going to buy some used Playmobil and the mother opened and closed the back hatch on the police station wagon I was sure she must have broken it. It was all I could do to restrain myself from yelling at her ...

(I realised I had not paid for it yet and I was in her house)

Bonnie, what eskimo sets are you looking for?

Any and all. They come up on ebay every now and then but they are usually rather expensive, and I'm not supposed to be spending right now. It's one of those put-on-the-back-burner things.

oh ok - i might consider sell/trade my duplicates (they're all german, not antex) if i end up not using them for a project

Well... Antex quality is weird to say the least. Vehicules and let's say big parts are great, but small accesories are very bad, and clickies are horrible, almost dispousable.
The quality of the plastic is NOT THE PROBLEM, that is great. What is really bad is the "looks" of things. They are badly finished, with marks and holes, colors often don't match the box, the theme or the set. The hands have wrinkles, are smaller than they should be and weird looking. Of course the molds are really old, the shoulders are too squared and give the clickies a "frankenstein" look. Weird  is the key word.

Now if you put up with all that, there is the matter of the price. IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE for what you get.
The Sussane is 180 dollars, too much if you consider only the ship and not the clickies nor the fishes, nor anything else (I wouldn`t care for the sails nor the strings either which probably are a piece of plastic and in the wrong color).
So unfortunatly (I say this with much sorrow for my hurt national pride)it doesn't worth it unless you care only for vehicules and a few accesories and price is not an issue.
