Title: Pirates' ship "Black Prince"
Post by: Hadoque on August 22, 2011, 02:18:28
A few days after my camera failed during the mid of the review-making of the 5135-ship, I got it working again.  ;D

I've turned the 5135 used in the review into a 17th-century English Navy frigate, I hope to post pics of the ship (if I have enough time  :crossed:) in a separate thread later this week.

But here some pics of another 5135, the "Black Prince", which I'm using as a pirate ship.

It isn't a big customization, but changes to the basic 5135 include:

* 5135-stickers are left off.
* The 5135's red anchor-wheel and stearing-wheel are replaced with darkbrown ones. These darkbrown ones only came with an (ugly) blue 5778-pirates ship, which was a US/Canada exclusive based on the 3050/3750-mould.
* I took out the 5135-"cargodeck" and replaced it with a "canondeck" from a 3940/3286-ship. (Yes, we can!  ;D )
* 12 canons are installed (8 on the gundeck below and 4 on the topdeck), each with a darkred gun-carriage and silver old-style gunbarrels (the ones that still shoot canonballs).

It is important to use the old-style gunbarrels below deck in the bow-section, because the new arrow-shooting barrels have a shooting-handle on top which makes these guns to high for the 5135's closed bow-upperdeck.

* I put on 2 skull-sails (the ones without skull are on the English frigate).
* Someone made me a custom sticker with the ship's name, and I applied it on the ship's stern.

First pics; canons (guns in sailor's language) and a 3940-gundeck on the 5135-hull...

Here the difference between the gunbarrels, old-style and arrow-shooting...
You can see the handle on top of the arrowshooter, which makes it to high to install in the bowsection when a closed 5135-upperdeck is installed.

5135-cargodeck swapped out for a 3940/3286-gundeck...

 :arrr:

The red on the bow and the red canons, the yellow cabin-windows and the black sticker on the stern give the ship the colours of the Belgian flag.  ;D
(or German flag, for those who insist  :hmm: ... :P ;) )

Thanks  :)

I first thought of naming the ship "Prince Laurent" (like the rebellious son of Belgian king Albert II), but decided to name her after "Sir Edmund Blackadder"s nickname (that one is a character played by Rowan Attkinson, in the hilarious British TV-series "Blackadder") ;D

Hmm...thinking of it... I might name a next pirate ship "Blackadder"! :shhhh:

I'm really jealous now ....... i love your ship and the silver and red guns!  and brown deck/hull!  And light-coloured sails!  it's like the best of the 3940 and the old 3050 combined!  I love it!

I hadn't realized that the new guns had that problem.... I will definetely keep all the old ones!

Love it Hadoque. Can't wait for this ship to make it to Canada. In fact, can't wait for this whole theme refresh to make it here.

Let me add my voice to Wesley's asking to see pics of your fleet.

A superb ship, Hadoque,  and a very clever idea!

I guess the detail on the top of the new style guns is meant to be a crude gun sight.
