easy question: which part was his hardhat customised from?
-
 Hello Cheng,
on the left it is just a painted arabian hat, you can find it in the old set or this 30 29 3420 - Cowl for desert headdress (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-29-3420) + 30 29 3430 - Headband, wrapped, for desert headdress (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-29-3430). On the right, you can use a old or new african hat (for example: 30 08 6100 - Helmet, pith (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-08-6100)) a little customized.
Kind regards,
TJ

hello Tricornejock!
ya, the left one's wearing the Cowl + wrapped headband ;)
why didnt I think about using the colonial pith hat?!
then i wouldnt have needed to spray it and leave it in authentic PM colour :(
I must check it out, maybe the colonial/african jungle hat is oval and not round enough....
so I used another PM part...anybody knows which? :P

An old fireman's helmet? There's a small groove on the back that seems like it's been cut…mmmh…I really don't know!
A.
-
Arnaud, I'll take a top photo view side-by-side with a colonial pith helmet and an old fireman's helmet
...there's no hole, no filling, no milliput, (its a reflection from the lighting) ;D

Can't find the part number for it, but is it the ladies' hat like shown in blue in the bottom right corner of this picture? http://playmodb.org/setpics/3145.jpg ?

I also think it must be a lady's hat but not that one... unless it was sanded down. This one has like a stripe all around it. :hmm:
mmm or it could be a medieval helmet like the black lion soldiers....sanded down. :)

Gaston's second guess is the one I am going after. that helmet is the only one that can sit on a klicky head like that. although, if thats it, it must have took you a lot of sanding to make it this way :o 30 07 6460 - Helmet, flared bell (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-07-6460)

yep that's the one I mean... though Chen's looks smaller on hte clickies' head.
-
Yep, the flared bell helmet is it, I'm sure.
-
BINGO BINGO BINGO ;D
Gaston, WolfKnight & Gordon!
WK, your comment "that helmet is the only one that can sit on a klicky head like that"...my respects!!
that's exactly why I picked it....they often wore them tipped forward...very unique :)
I took these photos last night wondering why you experts would need more clues :P
....if I told you how many hours, you wouldnt believe...I had to hand sand by turning it like a lathe to keep it perfectly round and smooth....and keep stopping to check its contour....the slope must be just right....no room for over cutting :( ( (I need a profusely sweating smiley)
...and BB, now youve aroused my curiosity! does anyone have a close up eye-level side photo of this blue female hat to share?
I swore never to custom another such british steel hat :'(

Here you are, cheng:

I'm pretty sure I have this in yellow, too, but I can't figure out what it came with or where it is. ???
-
thanks BB!
a very sweet hat...very nice blue too!
never seen one like this...would be too precious to sand down :P
(this is invaluable! ....how about submitting a photo of just this cap and the girl, if she's original, to Heather even though we dont have its ETN? the man's blue cap and those green police-like caps in set 3145 look unusual too!)
-
Yeah, I guess I could send her some pics from this set, though some of the figures have been disassembled. Wish I still had the instructions from this old set.
-
Wow Cheng! I'm stunned! I never thought ???this flared bell helmet was thick enough to be sanded down this much! Congrats!
Now, your desert is turning over-crowded with two Englishmen… ;D
Best,
Arnaud
PS: why wouldn't you cast a few of these? You'd spare yourself the hard work.
-
Amazing! :o
I really love these two. I'm glad you took another picture with the other guy,
The first pic was to fuzzy to fully appreciate the idea. :)
They look superb! Do they have a troop? ;)

1 made one at a time and added a third one last night but nothing to shout about...so I did not take a new photo....I was torn between letting him wear a pith hat or a 'canadian' beret or an 'aussie' bush hat...what's your opinion WoT?

Canadian Barret. ;D
(Of course I would choose that! I'm Canadian! ::) )

What year(s) or era are you trying to make them appropriate for? WW2? WW1? Pre-WW1 Colonial period? Post WW2?
-
hello WM,
no WW1 nor WW2 here in PF :P
just something that came to my mind ;)

It would depend on the year as to what headgear would be appropriate.

(i didnt see your this reply/question Arnaud!) I dont have casting materials nor skills yet and since this is still possible using a genuine PM part...true, alot of hard work but casting would be the logical answer if I needed more...in a way, this will ensure I dont dwell too much on this taboo era :P
(sorry Mods, I dont mean to kick up this old thread but I was searching for my answer to Hadoque in my other thread :P :P)

We'll just have to keelhaul you, I guess. ;)

cheng: YIKES!!! Please order your guys to not touch that cactus plant! My blood pressure skyrockets seeing anyone that near such a life threatening plant.
Yup, you fall into one of these in the desert, and you are a goner. It is a very slow, painful death, too. A bit like Chinese water torture I guess.
Please tell your Klickies to stand farther from these cacti in the future. Thanks, Pgal ;D ;D ;D
(PS: good luck finding water in the desert!)
