End of January 2012:

Oh wow! Sometimes I think they really do listen to us! :P I look forward to seeing pics of everything.

New dog breeds are actually a smart move business-wise, after the animal clinic theme turned out to be so popular.

Some (very small) pictures...could it be emperor-penguins with an ice-slide? Or is it more wish than reality? ;)

OH SNAP... good thing we find out about this stuff early enough to start saving for it... Im going to need a bunch of those archers.... must hold archery contest....  ;D  I am also glad to see an additional zoo set.. maybe this means they'll get back to adding to themes instead of just benching them and revamping so much...

MEDIEVAL PEASANTS PLEASE  :crossed:

Oh, the new penguin thing looks great! And those DO look like emperor penguins! :yippee: The new dog breeds are really good, do I see a great dane? ;D I also see an actual balloon-shaped balloon with that clown (hope this is a trend, rather than all the heart-shaped ones!), and I htink quite possibly that is a female indian in the canoe.

"Then-she-standing-next-to-tipi-holding-shield-in-hand" is really a fearsome Squaw(*) ;D

When my eyes don't betraye me, he/she is having darkbrown longtrousers with darkskinned bare feet, which would be a first case (sofar these blackfeet ;D dark feet come only with lightblue, white and black longtrousers) and so this would be usefull for sailor/pirate-customs.

The "Special Plus"s are to relieve the normal specials in the asortment and they come with more accessories then the "old" specials.

The knight-theme archer is quite cool, but the accompanying superset isn't: again a re-release of an old (Viking) superset with updated klickies (and swivelling shipboard canons ??? ::) )...

(*): with the word "squaw" I just mean "woman", I've heard the word has gotten a more negative connotation in recent times (like "Eskimo" now should be "Innuit"?) but I've not intended anything negative by using this word; in my childhood (watching Westerns and playing with Playmo-Indians (**) it was just broadly considered an Indian word for "woman".

(**) with the word "Indian" I just mean "native American", I've heard the word has gotten....etc.  ;D

Yeah, after looking closer, I do think all the indians are men. :-\ I didnt want to be the one to break it to gaston.  ;) we really do need more indian women and children.

Thank you zoo much for sharing all this wonderful news Zookeeper.

Those are indeed great new sets. and I am really interested in the Specials+ some very cool boxes there, I hope we don't see to much of a price increase. I guess it does make sense with the Fi?ures taking more or less the role of the old Specials.

I don't wanna go into Western (more then I already am), but that Superset sure does look nice.

Luckily we have so much good stuff still coming out August/September that the wait for this will be slightly more bareable.

Yay. Another depressingly slapdash knight special!

I really really but really hate those He Man kind of shields they're using. If - as some are saying - they take note of what happens among collectors, why haven't they used the Egyptian shield turned upside down for their knight series?

As for the knights superset, the less said the better.

The indian set is cool though.

I like the new clown!  :D I wonder if it's a sign of a new circus theme...I don't think the last one did so well considering the sets lingered around Toys R Us for years and most ended at Tuesday Morning.  ???

Very interesting, and many thanks for the photos!

I was in Germany  last week, but didn't pick up a catalog because I didn't think there was a new one out yet. Bummer.

Anyway, like many others, I think the archer Special is quite good. Not so sure about the 'Axe Knight'.

The 'Knights' Bastion' leaves me in two minds: the bastion itself strikes me as a bit silly, but the blazons on the shields, the new flag and the two men-at-arms on foot looks very nice indeed. I'm always on the lookout for new Playmobil heraldry, and from the picture, it looks like that coat of arms is more realistic, and more in keeping with the style of the Knights/Castles theme that came out this past year.

Anyway, many thanks again for the pictures!

Cheers,

AndrewL

I wonder if that arrow is part of the actual bow mold? And I wonder if these new specials with more accessories will cost more than the other specials?
Title: Re: New German Sets Winter 2011-12
Post by: Baron Marshall on August 14, 2011, 12:44:57
My guess is undoubtedly they will cost more... though I think we are probably looking at the $4-5 range for them which isn't that bad considering specials are 3.29 from playmobil right now... and usually $4 in the store... but the $3-4 price point will probably be taken over by the mystery figures... which I am fine with... it just means more individual figures each year if they keep doing them all (hopefully that means variety across all themes not "just" more)... and the horse/motorcycle/dog - 6 in a series lines are nice too.

Yes....the specials would continue to be the impulse sets countrparts of the Lego....whilst the surprise figures would do the role of the Lego mini figures. But I just cant stand playmobil giving us one full gap year for the export market. It is cruel in this day and age with all the information flowing to every corner in the world, and we need to wait wait wait and wait. I guess the new specials would be priced at twenty percent premium to the old ones.......love all of them except the knight with weird shield

Thanks for the news some great stuff coming out. Like every one else I love the archer - I feel the need for a kid and an apple now!

I agree it's a shame about the years wait, all they're are doing is increasing the profits of those sellers on ebay who mark up the stuff at silly prices. I usually wait the year but it can be frustrating  :(

I think it's a marketing buffer as well. If something really flops then they would not waste their time on an export market.

It also gives them time to produce enough stock for the rest of the world.

You never find a company in the USA sending it's stuff around the world in the same year. In fact they would use China to make it too.

The Indians are three males. There isn't a female.

Squaw means woman or wife in Algonquin, by the way.
