Title: my Englishman in a desert
Post by: cheng on August 08, 2011, 06:56:54
Its a serious custom but I hope our mods will correct me if my subject name is politically inacceptable  :)

Thanks Guys!
I found the pieces on my new Egyptians...had to have Cleopatra and her family for the lovely clothing they wear. Great designs on these Egyptians!
Reminds me of when I lived in Saudi...took a while to get used to men wearing headdresses, but after a bit I did not notice them. Scarier were the women whose only feature you could see barely were their eyes behind full face veils. Gave me the chills just watching, and hard to believe in 130 degree F temps of July. Never knew if they were happy or sad under those veils.
Do they make enough PM Middle Eastern females for those markets? We need more than just one family representing one ethnic group. Still waiting for babies in all colors.
Cheers, Pgal

I love it! Are the torso and arms custom too?

Excellent job, Cheng.  The mustache is reminiscent of Errol Flynn.   ;D

Cheng, get him one of those British colonial helmets and you can call him Major Grubert (and change your name to Jean Giraud) 8-).

the torso and arms are originals from those safari sets (one shoulder has a printing on it so since its against my own rules to rub them off, I bought used the unprinted arm from 2 similar clickies  :P

thanks everyone!

@PrimusPilus: pardon my ignorance, I will read about this Major Grubert & Jean Giraud!  ;D

@basilsdad: yes, I did think the grey moustage made him more English from that timeline  ;)

Jean Giraud = Moebius
He's a famous French comic book artist:

Major Grubert is one of his better known characters (though Lieutenant Blueberry is the most famous). For me, however, his best work is The Incal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incal).

@ PrimusPilus:
no wonder I couldnt find anything about Major Grubert(thought he was some hero in history)
I've 2 questions,
the story line is set about what era?
(if I didnt see your second picture, I would have thought his adventures would have been somewhere in africa  :P)

and from which civilisation he hails? (England i presume?)  ???

speaking of colonial helmets...ya, I should add another chappy wearing one
....an another wearing a breen beret...do we have any PM sandstorm visors?
and finally a towel around his mouth/head should nicely reveal where the inspiration for my custom comes from  ;D

Except for Blueberry (that is a Western), all Moebius'  works are sci-fi. He's not exactly mainstream, like most of the authors from Métal Hurlant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9tal_Hurlant) and Heavy Metal (http://www.heavymetal.com/) (to a lesser degree), but has some very interesting works IMO. Back in the 80's he was considered one of the greatest sci-fi comics' illustrators.

Very neat custom, Cheng!
I like the combination of the new Redcoat-kneetrousers with the torso and arms from the Safari-theme  8-)

Didn't know the comic "Major Grubert", but I know Blueberry. I read some of these as a kid.
Btw, there also is a certain "lieutenant Gruber", but that's a different (TV-)story...
