Amd,
My local store was totally stocked with new sets yesterday! Everything arrived earlier than they planned, and it was like being in heaven surrounded by all those lovely boxes amidst the huge pet turtle and other live animals that live in that store. It is called the Science Safari, and they offer science classes for kids, who love the place. They have managed to stay in business for 20 years without carrying any junk, a true success story!

it is great to see the new sets in the stores finally.
Cheers, Pgal

:thanks: for the info !  :) ....but... :picsplz:  ;D

The 5949 soldier bastion and 5950 pirate ship are known on the forum and we've seen 1 picture from each, a few blisters were also mentioned but not their contents.

I'm especially looking foward to see what the pirates' and soldiers' blisters and the soldiers' boat look like!  :arrr:

:thanks: thanks for the important news amd.
:lens: customizer had already spotted on the target site the 5949 and the 5950.
:) but now we have pictures of the new pirate sets (more "soldiers" than pirates actually).
2 blisters and 1 bastion

Ughh, those red boots on the soldiers are horrific. Would it have killed them to keep the traditional white pants and black shoes?  Any word on when these will be available?

Yeah, the red boots really ruin it. :-\ Would have been so much better with black and white legs.

There must be a reason they used red boots ... ?

(a real reason, not just some graduate of a 6 month designer course saying with a lisp, "oh, red goes good with blue")

This is true... where is our faith in them? They are always so good with historical accuracy. Could there be something we don't know? ??? I can't really imagine them wearing red boots, though. :hmm:

Awesome. Withe a little luck we'll be heading to West Palm Beach in September. Which means a trip to the Funpark, which means we'll be adding bluecoats to the planned redcoat purchase (even with those ugly red boots).

So many of you are talking about the terrible red boots, yes they are terrible... But I love these Set allready, there are so many nice new parts to be used in customs... especially, have you noticed that those terrible lookink soldier wear WHITE COLLARS? Brilliant, absolutly brilliant!
Title: Re: New Playmobil US exclusives (?)
Post by: Ds dad on July 14, 2011, 18:53:26
Alas, my son does not allow customization unless he is doing it. Everything must line up with what is on the boxes. He even poses the figures like the picks on the side of the box. One more annoyance with these sets as far as I'm concerned, 3 new bluecoat sets and I get 3 enlisted, one sailor and TWO officers. Arrgh are the Germans trying to brainwash the kids into respecting authority or something?  :P They really need to start making blister with enlisted men only IMO.

Woohoo!  :captain:

I especially like the blisters (the soldiers' one the most) and the soldiers' boat.
The bastion somewhat less; the usefull parts come in the other sets as well and we've seen the bastion itself several times before.

And the pirates' red-white ship... well, I'll let that one sail by and run into the cliffs  ;D
For me personally only the small lower sail without skull might perhaps be usefull for application on 3940s'/5135s' mast-extentions.

there are so many nice new parts to be used in customs... especially, have you noticed that those terrible lookink soldier wear WHITE COLLARS? Brilliant, absolutly brilliant!

Indeed!  :**:

I don't mind some variation, and it's VERY nice to have some diversity, like for the HazMat crew or paramedics, but now Geobra is going overboard.
I'm fully aware that children don't care, but I do :-\.

I guess the chap on the left in the pig above is meant to be in some sort of rescue crew and is wearing a non-fire fighting uniform with some sort of body warmer.

The figure on the right above is interesting as it's a move towards the brown fire fighting uniforms, a colour which is appearing over here but less so, I believe, in Germany where they tend to favour the blue uniform from what I have seen on the internet.  Interesting, too, to see a red helmet appear.  In the recent past I think the only red helmet has been on a promo for Drager.  Personally, I don't like the brown uniform.  Some brigades have red with white or yellow reflective stripes which looks much better:

http://www.deadlinenews.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/fire_new_uniform_dppa_02.jpg

Interestingly, the brigades in Scotland have recently replaced the brown (actually it's described as "gold") uniforms for the red ones in the picture as these are lighter and more flexible than the brown/gold ones which will only be used at major incidents.

I didn't like them :(. Geobra is starting to diversify too much on uniforms. Aren't they suppose to be uniforms ::)?

Well, I must admit that my brigade has a mix of uniforms, partly because I haven't had the money to replace them all yet.

Around here, they have brown uniforms with white and yellow reflective stripes. But I like the gray-uniformed ones from playmobil the best. I think it looks better than the brown color of the real uniforms.

The large fire blister is great - the silver hazmat suit plus the other firefighter is in a uniform the correct color for what is used here in Oregon. First time I've seen that.

There is a Christmas carry case, and a cut down version of the Nativity set as well. It's $10 less but you don't get the lighting lantern or the sheep and shepherd.

;) i don't know if you have noticed but all (except for the 5950) new pirate sets have a whitish schooner in the backround.
could this mean that another one is still coming?
it will be a pirate schooner (the blck skull and bones are fairly visible).

:-[ i confess that although i am a big (and solo) pirate fan i can't seem to love these sets.
i am really tired of the white/black/grey/red pirates.
and i can see no sense in manning ships with soldiers (red boots or any other color).
this is becoming a little too childish for me.
will they be successful in the u.s.?
:'( if pre-assembled, fewer parts, easy color combination and no attention to details like historic accuracy seems to be what "people" want - i guess we are doomed.

???do you think there is an independent design department for north america.
sometimes it looks like it.

Not to sound too grumpy but I also have to say that the pirates in these sets are also EXTREMELY similar to pirates we already have. Not a single new set of legs or torsoes amoung them (as far as I can tell). The one on the left of the blister I basically have twice (except he seems to have donned a long coat this time).

All that said I'll be getting them given the opportunity. . . WHat can I say I have a problem.

I guess you have allready given the answer, it is not included at 5950 simply because this schooner IS 5950...

And yes, I also guess there has to be an independend designer team for the US market, because the German/European new pirat sets relly look great (sure, there are also in some aspects not perfect, but anyway...)

:lens: you should know by now i can detect the smallest variation in the smallest picture.

 ;) just kidding.

like wesley myers i think the small picture indicates a traditional shooner (3860 model - http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=4639.0).

That is true in a sense - when you have X amount of sq. miles (the surface area of a given planet) and one country is drawn way larger than it is in reality there is less of X left for the rest of the world.

the fun park in athens has lots of exclusive sets... I cant remember if they are US exclusives but all begin with 5, like 5013. The small clinic with the ambulance  is also available, the farm that flatcat spoted a few months ago... But most importantly, a pirate ship with a small system x dungeon is available. I have not seen it before i, took a pic, but realised afterwards that i did not get the set number  :( i cant upload the pic right now but will do so as soon as possible.

Ughh, those red boots on the soldiers are horrific.

I'm a few days late to this thread, but golly, you took the words out of my mouth.

Did any soldier in the history of warfare ever wear red boots?  ??? ::)

The red boots kill these sets for me, they look stupid, stupid, and btw, stupid. Got that, Playmobil designers?

They don't match the soldiers I already have, and by golly I'm not creating a special Red Bootee Brigade, so these sets go low on my priority list because that figure is now useless.

Not sure I understand what you are saying here....is it that you really don't care for the red boots on soldiers???
Nicely stated! Do you think that anyone at PM is actually listening? That would be wonderful, wouldn't it!
Praying that they don't introduce any more red booted soldiers, not because I would ever buy any soldiers, but so that we don't have to listen to y'all complain!!!
Just kidding of course, Pgal!

I was at TRU today and noticed that the 5950 set is made in China. I now find myself looking at Playmobil boxes to see where the set was produced. This is something I never had to do in the past...

I'm not sure about the other TRU exclusive sets. I guess they need to be looked at as they come in. I'm bringing this up because the quality of the Chinese sets has been noticeably lower in the past.

Does anyone know the part number for the red fireman's helmet?

Oh good, I thought I was alone in the red boots brigade problem.  I was trying to decide to just paint or dremel/sand off the top of the boot and make them look more like paints and shoes.  At that point, I have to repaint the pants to some I might as well do them in white.
Friday is officially, "pull out the Christmas decorations" and set them up day so I can take a look at the two manger scenes and see what figures get updated too.
