Hi Customizer, thanks for this news!!
I guess this is a US / Canadian exclusive for this summer?
At which shops/stores will it become available?
The design is new, it seems. It reminds me of the soon to be released 5140 English naval vessel, but there are differences...
http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-BE-Site/nl_BE/Product-Show?pid=5140&cgid=Piraten
It looks a bit bizar...very white-reddish...like previous US-exclusives, from which the klicky-bodies are re-used.
-
Anothere excellent piece!! But I think we could do without the red skull on the sail... ::)
-
Oh, I like it and it will make a fine looking ship along with the others

excellent piece? :hmm: :hmm: it's horrible (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Unhappy/thumb-down-012.gif)

For some reason it makes me think of The Princess Bride.
-
I dunno, it looks cheap but I like it! I can resist no playmobil pirate ship :captain:
-
It does look somewhat like Fisher-Price. ::)
The colours aren't well chosen, especially the red for the crownest and the rigging. US mass markets in mind?
The hull and deck seem someway system-Xish to me ???
Where have gone the good old days of the schooner/sloop.
I can resist no playmobil pirate ship
I know that feeling. :wall: ;D
-
I think they all are based – more or less – on the 4444-hull (it was the first of this series):
• 5950 dark brown (with small differences: hole for the cannon, no holders, no plug-in possibilities) with a red/white deck and a white top
• 5140 dark brown with a light brown deck and a blue top
• 5009 dark brown with green deck (without top)
• 5881 dark brown with green deck (without top)
• 5901 dark red with dark brown deck (without top)
• 4444 brown with light brown deck (without top)

I like the black coat of the captain...

I like the black coat of the captain...
changing the discussion ?
the only thing that you like from this set ? :hmm: ;D
-
This is a neat addition.
I think the sails are a bit too white but we can always airbrush them 'sail colour' if we want.
The figures are cool.
As for the skulls, you can NEVER have too many skulls (in real life).
-

A scale model is something that is an exact replica of the real thing but only in a scaled down size and color and even distress markings. absolutely realistic
Its colors are about as silly as a baby blue music box ;D
They are thinking "We need to sell some freeking toys here" kids like pirates and those silly skull and cross bones goes with them. I usually remove all the ones I have with blank sails and I will also change the rigging colors on this one. The red deck is a bit off but the black hull and sails looks usable.
The pirate theme was dwindling down in recent years and it is nice to see Geobra keep trying with something. This ship is probable based on someones interpretation of a ship in the recent movie and it is to compliment the new dark island series.
-
The pirate theme was dwindling down in recent years
you say it yourself ;) ;D
to be serious the new pirate theme is excellent i believe !!!!!!! -
As for the skulls, you can NEVER have too many skulls (in real life).
this sounds a little weird ...   what do you mean? :hmm: i think it's better not to have skulls in real life (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Surprise/surprised-027.gif)
-
Waow ! A new sailship model ? Weird color schemes and, yes, once again, a skull on a sail, but these can be fixed ;)
Well, IF it is a US market release, as the set number seems to indicate, I DO hope this set will get trough to old Europe.
I wonder about the Geobra policy of selling really different sets in North America and Europe... like the civilian seaplane 5920 I simply can't find anywhere, not even on the Internet !
-
oh oh!.... is this Chinese too? :(
I like it a lot though...

Everybody needs at least one!
-
Looks fine. Will be getting if the price is reasonable (~$35 CDN) otherwise I'll wait for the red coat version next year. Especially since those pirates are too similar to pirates we already have.
-
It certainly isn't a great ship as it stands, but a good basis for custom work.
-
(It should at least be a mermaid on the prow ...) :hmm:
Don't like it
--edit--
Hey ... where did you find this ship? Can't spot it on the site :lens:
-
:) thanks for the news customizer.
>:( although i am a big pirate theme fan and collector i have to confee that sometimes i just hate playmobil when they come with this black and red schemes.
:hmm: i don't know if there is a right word to the opposite of sophisticated - but this set surely demonstrates it.
??? and what were they thinking - putting that "slug" in the bow.
??? i can't find this set anywhere - is it toys r' us or target exclusive?

they are Target

I've looked at this ship again... and I've concluded that someone probably built it with system X-parts from a fire-department station. 8}

yes true

oh yes.... IS THIS MADE IN CHINA TOO? :hmm: :hmm:

For sure, buying this set, and the soldier bastion alike, for accessories or parts isn't a good idea ; they're pretty simple and cheap ones. But a new hull type is anyway a good news for us ships collectors, and we can hope Geobra won't wait to much before releasing some with nicer colours.
??? and what were they thinking - putting that "slug" in the bow.
Probably that if you can't put a figurehead under the bowsprit, why not put it over it ?
Well I don't find it so bad, at least there's a figurehead this time...
??? i can't find this set anywhere - is it toys r' us or target exclusive?
Target exclusive ? How to collect this one when you're one ocean away ? :'(
-
Thanks for the information, Customizer! I'm happy to see this ship as a complement to the upcoming 5140. I'll be buying one, as it can be made into a good looking ship.
-
oh yes.... IS THIS MADE IN CHINA TOO? :hmm: :hmm:
NO.......... i dont think its made in china, but i think we can made a nice china ship !!
I like this one.

I agree :yup:

Are we sure this is going to be at Target?

the playschool red colours notwithstanding, I do like this unique design based off the 4444. Most noteably, it has 2 tiers of square sails on the mainmast as oppossed to the single one flown by it's counterpart, the british vessel 5140. Additionally, it lacks the hardpoint connections of the 5140/4444 (appears to be shaved off completely). In exchange, it receives a different bowsprit with an interesting dragon/snake figurehead at the bow, AND features cut gunports for some bow-fixed cannons. I like how different it is, even though it's based on the similar 4444 mould, and is actually not just a simple repaint.
The issues with the colours can easily be remedied with some paint or customization.
So, I love it!
I was not aware of this ship until now, and am about to set foot on a treasure hunt to find it at local Target stores if indeed it is already being stocked. :)
-
It is a personal opinion of course, but I think that the red color is a little bit overused in here and not to the best advantage of this ship :(
Karim :)

PS : Playmo1989 had me in stitches with his excellent comments

I haven't been in Target since they recently dropped playmobil. Are they bringing it back? This will probably make it to TRU eventually.

i agree : it look fisher price , big deception for me considering it comes from playmobil !! i hope they will stop to do bad taste things soon ....
-
Are we sure this is going to be at Target?
I frequent Target stores and I haven't seen Playmobil there in months, if not a year. I'm guessing Toys 'R Us will carry this set.

:hmm: this set seems to have vanished from target´s www.page for good.
::) all they have available are 5 items - all of them "electronic" playmobil sets (dvds and video games).
:'( google doesn't produce any entries either.
8} this is so weird.

i get this pictures from Target but after my download the pics and all playmobil is deleted.
I dont know i search and look how can i prove it.
And i think i can:
Ok if you search at target for playmobil you can only see 5 games if you klick on one game the pictures is at the amazon server.

Ditto. Target pulled all their Playmobil fropm the shelves months ago, in both the Springfield and Eugene stores. I have stopped going into Target for anything since, unless I happen to be in the same Mall and want to be disappointed.
Regarding the Wii - the price has dropped dramatically since Christmas. It used to retail at $200 for the console, but you can now get it for $150, including the Mario Cart game which is normally $50 by itself. Nintendo are focussing their attention on their next generation console, the "Wii U".
-
Some targets have no playmobil, and some carry quite a bit, including US exclusives. I can't seem to see any reason for this, but I know the target by me has absolutely none, and hasn't for some time, but the other target in town has half an aisle of it.
-
Hi Friends,
im interested when we can buy this and can we get it in Europe, too?!
world greets
Andi
-
:hmm: maybe never customizer.
:'( some u.s. sets were never released in europe.
within the pirate them i was thinking on the 3351, 5727, 5781, 5782, 5807/08/09, 5865/5868...
:wall: so much many spent on shipping...
-
Just a little info in case anyone is wondering still... the 5950 is marked made in china... but don't believe everything you read, there are a lot of labeling rules... it is my opinion that the majority of the set is European in origin, and mostly "pre-assembled for mass market" in china, but because the last process happens there, it gets that label.
Also it has actual cloth sails not the paper-cloth we are used to.
Also the 5948 is marked made in spain... you know the one with the red booties :)
Reasons for believing the 5950 is only assembled in china...
The plastic is a lot heavier and thicker that the base of the bus... which is molded in china...
It is a different mold for a hull entirely no just a modified dingy as i expected...
There are several pieces that come screwed on so putting the ship together takes about 5 minutes instead of half an hour, so it looks like the are outsourcing the "put it together fun" more than the overall quality.
If any of it is molded in china... its the deck... but the rest feels right. Hope this helps... and i don't get in too much trouble for sneaking into the box ::) the wife need not find out...
-
Interesting point. I've been wondering about that.... if it says made in china, how much of it was made in china? Because I really doubt that the klickys are made in china, I'm sure they are shipped to the factory there to be included.
-
Honestly: what's the problem if it's made in China? Or Germany? Or Uzbekistan?
I personally really don't care, as long as it has quality.
-
Personally, I agree I don't care where it is made... but I do care about screws.. not a fan... and strange or overused colors. :)
-
Generally PM made is China has not the same quality. :-\ That's the only reason why people care about where a set is made... me thinks!

Interesting! Could you perhaps show a picture of the hull?
-
Interesting! Could you perhaps show a picture of the hull?
Here we go... I put a schooner hull and the dingy for comparison
-
If I could bug you enough to make a review of that set, ;)
I would be most grateful. :yup:
-
Seeing hull comparisons like that certainly show it to be bigger than the box art images had me thinking the size would be.
The broader hull should be more stable in the water too (and allow more deck area for room).
-
I'll see what I can do... might not be much though since I was technically not allowed to open that yet :shhhh: the one true downside to being the stay-at-home dad...
-
Thanks for the pics!
So... we have yet another class of Playmo-ships.
Now I'm not sure what to think of this boat... I don't like the colours very much and I already have plenty of 1-masted schooners and dinghies... on the other hand, it is a new design... 8}
Would it be intended as a cheaper successor to the schooner-series? ::)
-
Would it be intended as a cheaper successor to the schooner-series? ::)
I would be very interested in learning how much it costs in the stores. Was it Target you got it at. ???
-
Oh wow, it appears to be a scaled up version of the 4444 with modifications. Interesting! When and where is this available? Is it official PM?
-
ok just a quick note... i did get cleared to put it together.. so i'll do a review when i get a chance.. second.. i ordered it from playmobil usa.. right off the website about 2 weeks ago and have had it about that long... so its official playmobil yes and $29.99 US
-
the review is up in the other section now, I would link it... but i haven't figured that out yet
