Title: New DS medieval bakery already sold-out
Post by: Hadoque on June 04, 2011, 05:00:44
The DS medieval steck-bakery became available in Germany for online-orders on June 1st.
I read on KW that several German members who tried to order the steck-bakery on june 3rd, got the notification that the item is already... sold out!  :omg:  8}
The people on june 2nd were able to order it.

As the item is not marked "as long as stock lasts", we probably shouldn't panic... I think that most likely it will become available again.  :crossed:
But that a new release is already sold out on the 2nd day, says a lot... Perhaps too many people ordered several of them on the 1st and 2nd day, or some people bought them all up, so that they're out off stock allready...

And it can't be George who bought them all; he is on holliday...

At least it does show that our wishes aren't only for the collectors. I do hope they can produce some extra sets - I definitly want one!

As for George ... he might have found an internet cafe  ;)

i'am sure it's gonna be a big hit this bakery that they are all sold from the first day that says a lot !! ;)

i believe ebay sellers probably bought them to sell them on ebay for high prices until there will be plenty of them in the market as it's happening with the park fence .... very high prices  ??? ???

Maybe they were all bought by people to resell on eBay.

God, I sure hope we actually get the chance to get one. I wonder if Geobra might reserve some for the collectors club members?

Has anybody actually recieved the bakery? I'm betting something wasn't finished yet in the production and they haven't been sold yet.

Yep, I agree with HC. I seriously doubt they are actually sold out; there's probably another reason. I'm sure they'll come available, soon.

Post by: Sir Pleamo on June 04, 2011, 13:43:25
No panic! They are NOT sold out, they are temporary not available but if you want to buy one, you can mark the item so that you will automatically get a message from Geobra when it is available again... They have to fill their stocks first, these sets are really new!

Ah, so if I get it right, it's rather a matter of insufficient stock built up before the release-date?

If there is a lot of demand for the bakery, then it proves that the "collector's club" is a good predictor of popular sets that are worth re-issuing.

With this they will probably be more willing to add old sets that we suggest!

I am sure we will Sire, i am in no hurry ( and  i only have two , one complete one semi missing signs  ) but this is great news. i am sure more steck houses will follow and hopefully that will make playmobil think to re issue steck castles with some re designs and bring back 100% steck and get rid of these clip[ rubbish systems and the complex system x ... great news for steck lovers !!!!! ;) ;) ;) ;)

On Sunday 5th June in the German Funpark (Zirndorf), all Western water-towers were... already sold-out.
They're waiting for additional stock to be supplied.

Bakery not deliverable, watertower sold-out in the Funpark after barely 4 days, ...IMHO unless Geobra reschedules production accordingly to the demand, there might be a problem for the rest of the world to get these sets next year.  ::)

Looked up at klickywelt and obviously they are all waiting for the first delivery.
Nobody got the bakery so far. All sold out messages are purely virtual... ;)

Btw. There is a limit of two bakerys per order. :)

So everyone has a chance to get one.  I think an initial limit is a good idea.  If PM ends up with alot left then let people order as many as they want.  Just my thought.

Ya, Ebay is not the place we should wonder about, they are very predictable. Let me guess what Alex intends on doing, buy low - sell high. Now on the other hand it may be Zirndorf,s Hench men that are working overtime messing with the collectors community to see the effects for future marketing strategies  :evilplan:

I still to this day wonder how many other toy companies put limitations on normal merchandise that Geobra finds necessary. If I want to order 20 pine tree packs what is the big deal.

hmmm... you're putting me in thoughts now ,but until it's in the usa ds i guess the prices will be down for this set on ebay unless it's it's an originall and misb , what do you mean to get into customs?  to make custom buildings or figures and sell?

So are they getting parts orders or DS add-on orders. In the US these are different departments and orders of single parts and bagged sets can not be combined.

I understood your statement of claim that the bagged items department got overwhelmed. If so that seems like a positive response to the new items, but then what seems good to us may be different to Geobra  8}

I think selling like crazy is always a good thing to a company. It could be bad for us in the long run if they can't keep up and decide to outsource.

I think this is very good for us! From what I understand it's really easy for them to reissue items since they already have the molds, so with all the money they're making why not reissue MORE and MORE and MORE!  ;)

I see some sellers who have prices upwards of $100 for the water tower and windmill. I must say I'm very jealous if someone's willing to pay! Selling five more would be enough to pay a car note on a nice ride!  :-[

A little update! This morning the first german collectors received their medieval bakery!

The most important news: It comes with a chimney!  :D
The most important drawback: It does not come with chains for the damper but with a simple chord which is kind of sad. But fixable. ;)

The bakery is (found out in the KW):

• without klickies (-> pic)
• with some bread (-> pic)
• with chimney (you can't see it in the picture, it's hidden)
• without chain (only with one string) for the serving-hatch opening
• without filler/toast (it was only one = 1 in the old version)

• the cook's tall hat lays on the floor (-> pic)

• in the old bakery there was only 1 (ONE) filler, not more

• the bakeries didn't/don't have that green glass steck window (look here -> KLICK!) (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3441&pics=on), it was a piece of the tailor's house 3440, Medieval Inn 3448, Large Castle 3450 and Medieval House 7109 (look here -> KLICK!) (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-02-8720)

in the old bakery there was only 1 (= ONE!) filler = toast (weißichwiedasTeilsonstnochheißt)

look in my first answer with the picture (there are both: filler and toast). It's irritating if the infos are not read or only half...

Well, PlaymoDB isn't always accurate, but in this case it's true.  The slots on the sides are filled with the hooks of the floors, and on the front there is a one-hook lantern and a two-hook sign.

Very curious to see the plans of the new set...

Btw, now is the big barrel sold out... ;D
Some people buy between 10 and 20 at once!
(that I know off, perhaps others buy even more!  8})

What did Geobra only make a few thousand of these so far :hmm: In the past they would make a run of 10,000 and that would take 1,000 collectors to order 10 each. I doubt there are that many nuts out there buying empty plastic beer kegs

I do not quite understand "why not" to what?

I do have one opened and one still in the Merry Mens box sealed that I need to open, just as soon as I find it either in the pile in the barn or an old car.

When and if it gets to the US if it is under $10 I will get somewhere around 20ish and a lot of extra taps from DS  for when all the used ones that get sold years later. I am sure that will be the missing part that drive me to smoke, more  (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Smoking/smoking-030.gif)

Is this more an If or more of a When?

Because these old sets look wonderful!... And I've got some US based klickys that would enjoy some toast with a frothy stein of beer.

This year's German DS add-ons will be next year's in the export market. The limited quantity items and monthly specials don't carry through, but the regular add-on releases normally do.

I allways had the idea that these microsets were a nice idea but didn't do really well in the shops. You can still find some of them here i the shops. Allthough I've had to resort to Ebay and Marktplaats to complete the series.
But the new DS-items seem to do pretty well, so it would be very foolish not to release them world-wide  ;)

I ownder if the moulds used for these re released sets have an operating life that will only allow a certain number to be produced beofre new ones are needed and ( i dont know i am just speculating ) in that case sales forecasts and sales so far will determine if its worth continue making them etc etc.  :)

Everything has a life expectancy even these molds will wear out over time with use, and I do hope they get a lot of use

Yes it would be pretty ignorant of Geobra to keep making sets no one buys. So far there seems to be a good deal of demand for the new DS sets but we only see the surface of these sales. If they do sell like hot-cakes then it also would be ignorant of Geobra to not continue making things that sell

If people are referring to toasts, they mean this bit: 30 02 8740 - Filler for Wall ('Toast') (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-02-8740)

It is used to fill the empty steck holders when using for example floor plates like this:
30 03 9800 - Floor, 2x2 units (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-03-9800)

For the new bakery, they did not put any toasts within the set.  :-\

That is a very disturbing piece of news actually. If steck is to make a proper comebakc they cant be cutting such corners with re released items, without the toasts any steck design looks ugly and incomplete, i am very dissapointed to hear this even if the bakery with all the signs from and rear and floors dont need many such toasts but there are still holes to fill.....  :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

The bakery-house only needs 1 filler;
the holes at the sides are filled by the teeth of the attic-floorplates, the front with the big wooden hatch has no holes, and the backside (stone wall) has the horizontal sign (filling 2 holes) and a lantern (filling another hole), so only 1 hole left...

Perhaps they didn't wanna go to the trouble to add 1 toast (filler)  ???

Toast is so easy to get where as the others more meaty parts are much more rare and important

the chimney
the double male Tudor wall
the attic flat roof
the large flip up window
the signs

The only thing that I do not like is the price, it would seem the set is quite expensive compared to other sets of equal plastic weight. It is like Geobra is taking advantage of us collectors a little bit. I thought the same thing of the 7145 Medieval House with Barn that is now priced at $55  :o

??? Hmm, I think I disagree on that. Prices went up, okay, but here you get a lot of plastic for your money, the houses are rather massive. And, as for taking advantage of the collectors, I found the new DS releases extremely well priced. To be honest, I even had the feeling, Geobra is making some presents here... We do not have the barrel or the tower here yet so I do not know how the prices are. If you compare the 7145 or any of the medieval houses they are priced much higher than system x sets that are comparable in size.

I agree geobra is sending a present to the collectors community but only in the fact that they are releasing the sets, they are making us pay for them, so not much of a present if you have to buy it for yourself  ;)

The price is nto that bad. It could be worse... there are system x set costing 45 euros around the same size as the bakery. Perhaps the bakery could have a couple of klickies... then maybe things would be better.  But, lets be thankfull for at least that.

One thing you have to take into account is the R & D of a set. The new sets that are produced incur a lot of expenses to get them to the mold machines. The design teams, the advertising departments, the mold design and creation, the packaging engineers  etc..........

Now if you take an old set like these all of those expenses were covered a long time ago when the set originally came out. Now all you have is possibly the cost of plastic which is still cheep. If any old molds were damaged then, yes they would have to pay to replace them. There is not even a box that requires a graphics artist to create the images .

Its almost all profit for Geobra

Thankful, yes I am but do not try to take advantage of us the same way Geobra frowns down on auction sellers who do the same  ::)

Good point Ras but still 37,99 for a reproduced steck bakery is a lot better than 45 for 4251 - Royal Kitchen (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4251)

I don't agree with you here Ras!

The coloured steck houses were 33 Euro, so for 5 extra we get the bakery which has a lot more asseceries and the signs and what not easily adding up to the difference.

The other prices (Barrel - 4 Euro, Car 14, windmill 15, Water Tower 20) are in my opinion below what they could have asked for.

I do feel like they priced them in such a way to see if there was really a demand for them at a good price. instead of having to go into the argument with the collectors when they don't sell well and we tell them it is the pricepoint.

The water tower at 20 sounds reasonable for the old set. Now why charge almost twice as much for the bakery, it only has a little more plastic and about the same amount of mold runs. The car is a average deal but not excessively overpriced

If Geobra is going to charge so much for some of these re-releases they should give free memberships to the club in return  :P

I would still tell Geobra their price points are off any day of the week, we are talking about molded plastic here, it is not a rare commodity

I think the company end of geobra sees a way of making a few bucks similar to any business. Here they have us pinned down through our addition. If they make the sets and we buy them at an inflated reasonable price then they win but we feel that we also won due to Geobras interest in doing the transaction again. If we do not buy them due to         then Geobra does not re-release items and we both loose

I hate additions  :hissyfit:

I wonder if Playmobil sets prices by the weight of the pieces for DS catalogue add-ons.

I do think these items are overpriced.

I never bought any of the medieval houses from DS as I realised for what they were, they were overpriced.  Just like the medieval house/barn.

I bought my steck houses from Ridge Road Station for a deep discount.

I'm just reasonable like that.  :)

Martin started a nice trend on weighing the sets and creating a weight to price comparison

You just weigh the set (with out boxes) and post it in a review along with the price

Over time we should be able to tell how things are valued

Regarding the high costs of the bakery:  As far as I know Geobra/Playmobil has to made a new mould for
one side wall. The old one was broken and a new mould costs a 6-digit amount of money (in this case Euros).......

Yes, it this, but lots of people are buying it.... so the price seems to be ok...

From my personal point of view, that´s totally ok because I can get all necessary spare parts for Mediveal Houses for the next four years....

But I still hope to see more old Steck-Sets like the museum in the next future.....

The timber houses are $45 in Canada...

They are $40 in the USA yet their dollar is worth less than ours.

That's still a lot in my opinion.

To compare:

7145 Medieval Frameworkhouse with Barn:
Current price Playmobil-site Belgium -> 50 euro
Current price Playmobil-site USA -> 55 $US

When converting 50 euro to USD at the current exchange-ratio, the 7145 would cost 70 USD, which isn't the case.
So I wouldn't use exchange-ratios to determine how much the bakery will cost next year outside Germany  ;)

Maybe it has to do with varying overhead costs for storage facilities, employees, etc. in different countries.

:) these are great news indeed.
;) sold out means the very small risk geobra took when they released it will be profitable.
:) maybe, with time, they will have the desire to risk a little more.

I went to the Factory outlet as well as the Funpark shop in Zirndorf and they just had two bakeries, which I happily took with me :-)
