Title: THE MOST AMAZING HAUL EVER
Post by: Skywalker on May 16, 2011, 15:26:45
sorry to be so enthusiastic but i just came back from the most amazing playmotrip ever.

the story began yesterday evening. i was surfing ebay while we watched a film - just some usual ebay-patrol-surfing. the text was "big playmobil collection" - in 99,99% this is rubbish. but not this time baby. i couldn´t believe what i saw. it was allmost the complete medieval 90s sets BOXED. OMG….obviously the seller didn´t know what kind of treasure this was - because he put the auction just for people who will come by and pick up the stuff. no shipping. my hands where shakey as i scrolled to the location. OMG - just 18 km away from my home !

i had to open a beer and was thinking : okay maybe half is missing inside the boxes who knows . i calculated a price which felt okay for a seller who doesn´t know what this is and i would feel like finding a nugget. i activated my sniper and waited for the morning. with my first coffee i saw what happened.

the auction endet this morning ( ! ) and i was the winner with 1€ more than the next bidder! i wanted to pick up everything as soon as possible - still i couldn`t  believe that the sets are ok….when i arrived i watched in the boxes and checked it and it was complete . they said there might be a sword or 2 missing - yeah okay. boxes and the whole playmo looked so good i still can´t believe it. after checking most of the sets i can say now that they are 99 % complete and in brilliant condition.

for the price : i saw recently one of those sets going for what i paid for the whole collection...

i have some medieval double sets now which i will give away for just what i paid for ( not this haul-price of course ) it might make sense to give them all away together for people who might not get the chance to get these sets for a ok price. so please PM me when you are interested.

But now the Pics....

OMG!!!

You lucky man!!

Somedays things like this happen :-) We're all hoping for it, I think I got a pretty good deal the other day as well..still waiting for it to be delivered :-)

There is so much I am interested here, but well I have everything already so I won't PM you and will give the opportunity to people that don't have them just yet. (Although the Ox-cart is so nice)

I can just imagine how you must be feeling right now... :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Still can't believe it when looking it over again, AWESOME HAUL indeed!

Wow that is just something that would never happen in the US. That many of the golden era sets in one lot, so complete and with the boxes. I would not have been able to sleep if I was involved in the auction  8}.

Unfortunately I am in the US and shipping is horrid but I really like the bear trainer set

Congratulations on one super lot  :**:

Looking forward to your talents when you open these and set them up for a diorama photo shoot

Gis: first i hope your haul also arrives in good condition !

when i hear all the storys about sellers who try to squeeze so much money out of the collectors i feel like the lucky winner today. it gets worse every day - even here in germany.  i don´t want to give these people my money and it makes me feel really bad when i hear the storys about sellers asking 1000$ for a 90s castle...they are getting these sets just to sell them overpriced. first we - the collectors - should get a chance to get these. we are collectors and not interested in earning money with selling those sets to a collector who may just desires this special set.

Ras: thx and yes these sets will be in a very special diorama !  :**:

Really awesome haul!

Arnaud: ...and in the text it said so much about "has to be cleaned" and "some parts might be eaten by the vacuum cleaner" all this combined with "pick up only" was too much. when i came there the kids had checked the boxes and labeled them with "complete" stickers or "one sword missing". it was so cute i wanted to invite them for dinner. the mother asked me how old the kid is that gets all this and i said "40" - ahhhh - i am still smiling....

I've only just seen this set 3888! :o :o :o

I thought it was set 3123, but just without the seige tower, but I always heard there was an extension to the 3666 but I knew that the 3123 was an exclusive, but now it makes sense!

It was the box shape that gave it away!

It can be very interesting to see adults and kids reactions  ;D

I was going to pick up a big big box of Stecks from a teenager. I had to talk to him over the course of a month or so as he thought I was so weird I must be dangerous. He even had me talk to his parents to check me out. When I finally went to pick up the box and I started sorting it and saying "oh this is from set 3666 and this is from etc....." he really started to show signs of concern, and he backed away from me  It helped in the financial negotiations though  ;)

Are you really selling these treasures? I could use about a dozen of each set and even then I would want more for dioramas and play.

In such a case, in Dutch we use the expression: "ze stonden daar alsof ze het in Keulen hoorden donderen" (they stood there like they heard thunder in Köln)  ;D  ;)

Thanks it was quite an unexpected one :-) we'll see!!

first we - the collectors - should get a chance to get these. we are collectors and not interested in earning money with selling those sets to a collector who may just desires this special set.

Your theory sounds right but the prices wouldnt be as high without the collectors bidding for them. the museum is currently auctioned at the local Dutch site and is already at 115 Euro out of the box with yellowed walls. Sellers are only able to have these prices if the market is able to bear them. Can't say I blame them, it's economics...if collecotrs will refrain from buying certain sets at certain prices they will drop.

Or we just convince Playmobil to reprint them and sell them at a decent price *grin*

I agree with you Skywalker! I often thought of getting just the signs, arches and roof for the museum, or any house for that matter. All houses are easy to reproduce from basic simple steck parts, and I have no interest in paying 150 or so euros for a single house, no matter how original it is. I dod once an regreted it so much... all the wall pieces were yellowed and the conection points very loose.... just not worth it...
Title: Re: THE MOST AMAZING HAUL EVER
Post by: Giorginetto on May 17, 2011, 06:41:47
I agree . I paid 180 euros or so for a complete 3449 Museum and i had almost all the parts fro it except the signs ( and i am not itnerested in the modern day sign map ) , one can get really smart and with far less money make the steck original hosues , something i even managed to learn and did with the 3445 set . Signs for steck hosuers can be pricey ranging usually 18-24 euros but still its a great save unless someone is looking for MISB,MIB sets ....

playmo: Thx. 236€

Wesley : Thx. in my case it´s like : oh it´s for your kid. great  - how old is he ? - eh 11months - quiet  :P

Wolf / George : the museum is complicated in 2 ways it has so many different signs and it is very rare. on the other hand i think it´s just nice to have when you place it in a modern theme because in a medieval world what do you want with a museum ? so you pay a lot of money for something you might not need. i like the outfit of the museum house very much and i bought a 4300 train station. you can get one sometimes cheap and there are most of the parts you need

http://cgi.ebay.de/PLAYMOBIL-KLICKY-NOSTALGIE-BAHNHOF-4300-ZUBEHOR-/220766080964

. the walls and the nice roof. as i don´t need the museum signs i reproduced the house - it´s in the port royal diorama on the right - and that was it. i also found out when you have most of the medieval houses you start building your own creations like 2 or 3 floor medieval steck houses and then you need steck...

we think along the same lines skywalker. I have bought two of these in the past and their arches and roofs can be used for a museum, but anyway, if you make a medieval city, you dont need the museum building to be a museum. You can have standing there as a regular building.

Many congratulations, Skywalker!  That is a marvellous buy and thanks for sharing your good fortune with us through the pictures.  I don't collect the mediaeval theme, but if I did it would only be those early classic sets.

May we ask for more photos of the contents in the future, please?

Yeap. In my mediaval set up i use the museum due to its sign with the crown and the nuremberg flag on top as the ' city guard's general house  close to the 3444 which are the city guard barracks .... I really like the black sign with the gothic letters so i have left it though it makes no sense

That price works out to be $326 CDN.  That's a good price (considering all the boxes are there).

That reminds me of an ebay auction the other year where a guy who lives in Montana (that's just south of where I live) was selling ALL the old steck houses/buildings and first version castles.  He only wanted $300 for all of them and they were all complete in box.  I talked with him several times and he didn't want to post them to me because he thought shipping would have been too much (over $100).  I told him I'd drive down and get them - but - I had to wait two weeks for my passport.  Anyway, he doesn't want to wait.  In fact, he didn't even want to send the boxes to me via post at first because that would just add cost because of how big the package would end up being!!!  I told him, no, I need the boxes.

Well, I didn't get them.   :'(

He was just in too much of a hurry to unload them.  Actually, if I remember correctly his auction even stated he was just going to trash the boxes because it would cost too much to ship them to whomever won (he had them in the auction pictures).

If the passport law wouldn't have been in effect I would have hopped in the van the next morning and went for a road trip ...

*yes, I'm still upset about that*
