Title: Spanish 18th century guard
Post by: Hadoque on May 08, 2011, 06:00:36
Again thread-title says it all...

There are 27 of them in total; 6 soldiers and 1 officer with brown shoulderbelts and swords, and 20 soldiers with white crossbelts.
Not sure which ones (brown shoulderbelts or white crossbelts) look best, so suggestions about this are most welcome!

I really like the brown belts. If combined with a rifle of the same color it actually looks good in many combinations.

Cheers,
HDL

interesting customs Hadoque !
just a question for Mapoleonic experts..is there any rules/records of soldiers having to carry their rifles slung behind their shoulders during long marches (of carried resting on the front of their shoulders?) for faster 'deployment' in case of a surprise attack ;D (like whether the shorter samurai side arm is worn blade up or down for a faster first strike/defense)  ;)

Interesting question! I don't have a clue... ???

With my Playmo-soldiers I use both methods;
a) rifles in front of the klicky: slightly raised arm with tilted backwards rifle (like he is holding the rifle in the palm of his hand and holding the barrel against his shoulder)
b) rifle on the back of the klicky, rifle almost straight up (like there would be a rope attached to the rifle so he carries it by holding tightly the rope over his shoulder.)

Hi Hadoque, they look great. Since you asked I prefer the brown belts. Can you tell me where the torsoes are from? If I can get some I'd love to copy your design (assuming you don't mind).

Those are excellent customs, Hadoque.  The choice of colours for the uniforms looks really smart.

White cross belts or brown?  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?  Well, may I suggest both, the white cross belts for the privates and the single brown belt for the NCOs as they have less to carry and it marks them out as different from the rest.

I think they look good with both, or just ow they are.
I don't think I would change that regiment.

Nice customs, Erwin and HDL.  I like Gordon's idea of using the white crossbelts for the privates and the sword belts for the NCOs.  I'm wondering if black might work better, though, as it would match their boots.

That's fine, Tahra  :)
And thanks for the comments folks!

Btw, about ideas: just after making my first 25 soldiers, I discovered KW-member "Hannibal" had the same idea and had created exactly the same soldiers simulteaneously (I think) as I did!! (though he only used white crossbelts, no brown cutlass/sword-belts, but that is a detail imho). He also sells on ebay, so I bought some from him to complement mine (otherwise I had to order lots more klickies from DS and buy loose parts elsewhere) and now I've a decent "regiment".  :)
