Title: Playmobil Train Purschases !!!!!
Post by: Giorginetto on April 04, 2011, 19:30:33
I have had for many years a MIB 4034 . Today I am really really so so sooooo excited i bought a 4375 transformer, a 4372 connector ( do  i need anything else to get the train moving ??) and also 34 straight LGB G scale tracks, 12 bended ones and a 4537  and a 4356 track. I bought also a boxed 4123 which i think is an awesome wagon as  since i will create a confederate military train i thought i should get one more of these !!!!  and will check in my den which one i have of the two 4122 or 4121 as i have one of these and I cant remember which one , i will buy the other one then.

I failed to win a complete 4120 , i am desperately looking for two complete ones, if anyone has any for sale please please let me know i probably wont sleep till i get them both ...

I am really excited about setting my confederate  western train for the first time and cant wait to show you pictures of it people and share it with you all

Aww, the train will be called  ' Dixie Star '   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

You know for someone who complains about sellers trying to fetch unrealistic prices for older sets I get the feeling the way you shop for playmobil is also a contributing factor in driving Nuremberg guards, stecks, black knights and now train prices up and up.  ;) How do stores in your area keep the shelfs full with you around ?

MISB's are in short supply and you create quite a demand and also your enthusiasm is contagious

Congratulations

Now you have me buying as much track from RRS as I can  ;D

As you would say "you can never have enough track"

G scale seem to be a shrinking market  :hissyfit:

Do not forget the first Playmobil train 3958 was a western train. It used the 0-4-0 tank locomotive and the coach had on it UPRR. If you could get this you could have a second train. The caboose was the same as in set 4034.
You could almost say 4035 the Christmas R.C. train was based on a western.

congratulations

but you need lots of wagons, a nice large engine and lots of freight  <:> Then you need a large freight yard in stecks, lots and lots of stecks.

I remember Richard and MacGayver warning me about G scale  oh what an expensive large hole I am unable to fill. It was not even a slippery slope, more like a free fall of joy.

I can pull 7 wagons with one engine with no problem.  With two engines figure 11 to 13 (depends on how heavy the wagons are).  You can use just about 2 of any engine.  Glazz74 uses two desiel engines on his layout.

Correct me If I am wrong the 4034 train it does have two motors one in the train engine and one in the coal wagon , is that correct? If that is the case does it mean it can  pull as many wagons as two engines would do ????

My little battery powered one can pull nine wagons (and more)

http://i704.photobucket.com/albums/ww48/playmofire/Playmobil/Playmobil%20trains/Goods4.jpg

and each has the ballast weight fitted so they are quite a weight, so you should easily be OK with 6.

Hi,

unfortunately 4034 does not have two motors the motor block is in the tender. Only 4052 has the two motors

Hi,

But 4034's coal wagon is really heavy and if i remember correctly ( last time i had a look at this train was when i bought it in the 90s... ) it is an 'engine block' providing additional pulling power .. right ?? Otherwise i really cant understand why this block is so heavy. The inside engine block of this wagon was sold separately also from Playmobil correct ???

The Steaming Mary can't have 2 motors. Why? Cause of the big wheels in front and the small in the tender. You can't get them synchronic, cause the bigger ones drive faster with the same power (motor).

The motor block is always the same (for transformer engines) with 2 weights. Addional there is a weight in the tender under the wood.
The 4054 (4034 as set) Steaming Mary has not much power. It has only 1 motor (additional in the tender, so it pulls the loco) and is heavy. A small loco has more power (or the 4052 with 2 motors).

Can any one tell me where the name Steaming Mary came from for the Western Locomotive?
Be careful do not try to pull to many wagons with the Playmobil locomotives as you may strip the main gear in the motor unit. A lot of people have and you can not get the spares now.

Thanks for tip.  the coal wagon has that metal strip that touches the LGB scale G rails, so i think one can safely assume that there is definitely an engine in the coal wagon of the 4034 train , next time i am at the den i will check on this in case of anotehr engine in the front  however as mentioned before due to the wheel diameter difference this might not be the case ..

So let me get this right , assuming there is one engine on this train , can  it can pull up to 8 wagons ( that is including the steaming many engine at the front ) ..??? with a few klickies on and without any risks of burning etc ????

If you went to pull 8 coaches check the following.
All the axels are oiled where they go into the plastic bogie and none of the axel holes are elongated. That the bogies move freely. It will also depend on if your track is level and do not forget that it takes more power to take a train round a curve then on a straight.

Last night i got a boxed 4121 western cattle wagon, the last of the western wagons that i was missing. So my set up will be :

1 x 4034 Steaming Marry( with engine, coal wagon, open wagon and caboose wagon)
2 x 4120 western passenger wagons
1 x 4121 western cattel wagon
1 x 4122 western cargon wagon
1 x 4123 caboose wagon ( additional to the 4034 one)

So including the engine block of the steaming Mary ( the coal wagon) thats a total of 9 wagons. I have the transformer 4375, the wire 4372 set p  and then 38 x 4355 straight rails, 20 x 4354 bended rails, 1 x 4356 rail, 1 x 4357 rail, 1 x 4360 x-rail.

I am gonna get also a 4352 stopper and a 4373 to isolate two rails set ups , in the future i guess. i suppose if i create two set ups that are joned by a 4373 i will need a second transformer for the second system ??

Anyways , i think now i have enough rails and wagons to create my western train and share with you all my train . I will have to wait for a few days for all the items to arrive, I only purchased the cattle wagons from USA yesterday

Really pleased that out of the bluse instead of buying more black lion guards and/or steck and nuremberg guards ddecided to get something out of the ordinary for me. I should do this more offen. Well i already dd by buying the entire wedding theme  ;)

If you run two controllers make sure that the rails connected to each controller are isolated from each other.
If you can keep the number of coaches/wagons on each train to a maximum of four. You should then be O.K. I have done this most of the time and my trains started in 1984 and I have not striped any of the gears yet.

Cant I sue all nine wagons described above even for a few small runs ???
